    Unhappy Impulse mistake, again.

Anyone eve do this? Buy a scent after an impressive opening to find you hate it by the time you get home.
Ive had my eye on The Different Companys De Bachmakov for a while now and decided to buy yesterday.
Ended up being sidetracked by Sel de Vetiver, bought it and feeling like ive made a terrible mistake. Want to scrub it of now.

I normally find that I enjoy the dry down a lot more than the opening of 90% of the fragrances I own. So in that respect I always wait until that moment, before starting to decide.

A couple of times back when I became a "perfume enthusiast". Now I only buy fragrances that I had the chance to sample first (unless they're really cheap).

Unfortunately the company in question dont do samples unless you buy the full set at 50 euros.

Used to do it all the time starting out. Now I only purchase after obtaining a sample or decant and giving it a full 2 to 3 wearings.

I do like Sel de vetiver. But then I like strange vetivers too (like Virgilio). Perhaps you can find somebody in Europe for a swap?

Might try that. Its a quality scent but im a wimp with vetiver. The frederic Malle one is to much for me but Creeds original vetiver i like. It does smell like expensive soap though.

I think most of us can say we have made that mistake at one time or another.

My mom's great. I appreciate her sense of humor, patience and fondness for daytime drinking. :0)

You really have to wear a frag a few times to see if you are comfortable with it. If it's too expensive, you need to get a sample. If you don't, just chalk it up to a lesson learned and don't make the same mistake again.

I have been there. More recently than I would readily admit in fact.

Sometimes perception can save a fragrance for you. I'm a vetiver wimp, too, but I love Sel de Vetiver. I concentrate on the way that the cool iris and the brine notes interact to create a cold, refreshing feeling, like a breeze in a seaside cafe, with a whiff of perfume from the lady who walks by. I've forgotten that the vetiver is even there - though in the back of my head, I know it is somehow helping to create the illusion.

Revisit it in a few days. Really get in and analyze it, perhaps you'll appreciate other points, like it's a structure or an accord you didn't notice. Try it in different weather. I've bought some gems which have become clunkers and some clunkers which have become gems.

I disliked Sel de Vetiver at first, now I find it quite intriguing.

Happened to me with Platinum Egoiste. Top notes were great and SA assured me that it is only Chanel that she really likes, but when I came home I was disappointed. It still is not my favourite but I learned to appreciate it for what it is.

As MikeNY already suggested try to wear it under different conditions. There are huge differences between how we percive fragrances, especially related to temperature.
Current TOP 5 from my collection:

    1. Gucci Pour Homme II
    2. Chanel Coromandel
    3. L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme Extreme
    4. Encre Noire
    5. Dior Homme Intense

Yes, it's happened to me as well and continues to happen . *shrug* Really it takes more than a few samplings when deciding to buy a new fragrance .If the fragance isn't an absolute, head over heels, instant and certain love - this is where the danger lies ...for me. My nose is fickle.

yup been there, but fortunately only with cheapie blind buys. If I have the chance to try for a few hours on skin, I ALWAYS wait. Even a couple of hours is very telling.
