l`eau de parfum #2
Incense, Woods, Pepper, Cardamom, Ginger, Tobacco, Rose
Thread: SotD, Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Top note: Lemon, Lavender, Nutmeg, Birch leaves
Middle note: Tarragon, Geranium, Rose, Anise
Base note: Cedarwood, Sandal, Vanilla, Amber
There are different versions of the notes: some include rum, ambered cherries, and chocolate; others, Moroccan geranium. I couldn't tell you everything that's in this one; but the overall impression is spicy and oriental, and maybe a hint of green and leather. This is certainly an energizing scent for me. It has a great deal of "presence" without being loud or raucous.
A bit sharp at first (perhaps the nutmeg and anise?), it dries down to a suave and elegant finish.

Sampling L'artisan Timbuktu. This one has a rather impressively long list of notes but it just seems to fall flat for me. I can hardly smell it, and what I can seems kinda 'green', a slight floral, and something vaguely medicinal. Just seems kind of bland and boring on me unfortunately.

It is rosy and jammy, I am suprise YR makes such beautiful scent.
The very original and marvellous Annick Goutal, SABLES
I'm in one of my favourite standby scents, Un Parfum des Sens & Bois by TDC, nose Celine Ellena.
This is peppery white violets with ginger. It is both delicate and woody at the same time, an intriguing combination. It is always a huge pleasure to wear, and holds my interest throughout its lifecycle. I love the bottle, the colour of the juice, and the scent. TDC is a wonderful house.

Still had a sample of this lying around, time for a first wearing now. Quite pleasant spices and flowers that seem to work well in the sun.

I'm sitting at the airport waiting for my connecting flight to Denver. I left the house in a bit of a rush as the cab service was early and didn't pick a SotD for the flight. Also forgot my neck pillow and just bought yet another. I could open a neck pillow shop. Southwest Regional Airport has at least two Brighton stores and I didn't know they carried fragrance. I'm wearing Dream on the left arm and Laugh on the right. Laugh smelled nice in the bottle, but then the jasmine hit my skin and did its evil little thing. A la Nuit this is not. Dream on the other hand is a not unpleasant fruity floral. Their website states: "The Dream scent is an oriental floral with peach and melon notes combined with florals of rose, jasmine, carnation, orange flowers and ylang ylang. A dry-down of patchouli, musk and spices with a note of white ginger." Fairly lightweight and pleasant. The bottles are very lovely; decorated with Brighton's signature silver frou frou flourishes.
Like these two scents, I'm having mixed feelings-- happy to be going home, but sad to leave my Mom.

I'm still having a tough time smelling anything and have been reduced to scents that
a) I know what they smell like
b) behave predictably (no complex stuff here)
c) don't make me queasy (which is removing 99% of the florals in my collection, including my beloved Serge Lutens and Frederic Malle's)
I am soooooo looking forward to trying new stuff again. I've got a large bag of goodies I am DYING to sniff.

Everyone smells great today! I've now got yet another little scrap of paper with three or four "scents I want to try" written on it... I do hope the Wardrobe functionality is back soon. I'm starting to feel like a hamster with all these little bits of paper.
Yesterday's Dark Amber and Ginger Lily inspired today's choice for a bit of comparison -- sampling Penhaligon's Lily and Spice. Notes (from NowSmellThis) include lily, saffron, patchouli and musk. The spices are very subtle and the lily is straightforward and has great "stage presence" without being loud. I like this one quite a bit, and it's suiting my slightly understated mood today.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson

I love this stuff. I don't get testosterone monster, more tailored hippy back from warmer climes. And it evolves beautifully from the start, grabs you by the lapels and starts telling stories. We have a return to springly normalcy here in the State of Middle Temperament and my muscles are unkinking to greet the sun.

Second day of Sample Week (or maybe Sample-2-Full-Bottle....this could get expensive) in a wonderful chameleon...
...starts out as a slightly green, gentle floral then takes you into an herb garden with a slight, not unpleasant soapy updraft. Great for this coolish Spring day!! Manymany thanks Asha for the sample!!
Tavorna, I'm with you on Timbuktu. But my opinion is based on a small, enough- for-one-wearing, sample. Whaddya think? Should we give it another try?
ComDiva - I liked LandS too! Surprising (to me) for a Penhaligon.
Strollyourlobster - you should go pro!! That's a funny and very informative review!!
Coco - isn't YR fab!! Have you tried their Amber???

Lol! Yes I'm starting to get a wee bit impatient. I know my wardrobe will be rather different when I update it. Especially the "to test" part - it used to have so many in there because I just wanted to smell everything!
Nice review strollyourlobster - maybe I should give it another go....
