Default New/Latest Fragrance/s that Wowed You.

I would have to say that the following fragrances have been my new 'Wow' Fragrances since January. Everytime I have worn these there is a big smile on my face and the compliments are there. Some of them are not new to you but they are new to me...

    Encre Noir
    Straight to Heaven
    A Taste of Heaven
    Molecule 01
    Bois d'Ombrie
Une Histoire de Chypre - I had a good sample of this.

These are now all packed away for their hibernation.

Can you share what your newest or latest 'Wow' Fragrance is/was? Let me add that these do not have to be your favourite five or anything like that.

    Best,

    Otto

    Hi Otto,

Good to hear that you've found some real gems. The more experienced I become at this lark the more difficult it becomes!

The last one for me was Montale's Red Vetyver - an amazingly rich, uplifting and tart vetiver scent with some sandalwood in the drydown. Lovely.

Just last weekend I purchased M;Men by Masaki for 50% off. The fragrance is from 2006 but it is new to me.

CdG 8 88, it's not new, but it has been relaunched recently I think. I have to sniff it every night before I go to bed. Have been doing that ever since I got it a couple of weeks ago .

Got Musc Ravageur for my gf as an anniversary gift, and I am wowed into space when she wears it.

One that I originally dismissed quickly and now recently revisited that I'm in love with, is Tom Ford's Noir et Noir. At first I thought it was a generic woods and floral scent, but now with further testings, I get the exquisite high quality notes of saffron, black rose and truffles all blended perfectly. It wears very boozy on my skin and one unique feature of the scent that I have a hard time finding is others is, that is smells very "wet". You can get spicy, dry, woody but wet is hard to come by. I've only experienced this properly pervious with Voleur De Roses.

I'm still trying to save up money for this one and Moss Breches.

Sadly, no new creations seem to impress me but my most recent "wow"s that ended up as purchases among many others just this year:
Blenheim Bouquet: Hadn't felt this way about a scent in a loooong time, purchased.
C&S No. 88: Purchased (preferred over Domenico Caracceni)
LV Piper Nigrum (purchased this and Sandalo)
MPG Parfum D'Habit (purchased this, RdV, and IBG)

    Tested and wowed:
Black Aoud and Lime Aoud: Outstanding but not purchased, wishlisted
PotL Luctor et Emergo: not purchased, wishlisted
Guerlain Bois d'Armenie: not purchased, wishlisted
Also wishlisted many titles from I Profumi di Firenze...

Now: "Sampled but disappointed in"...that's another thread...

I have tried, I think, about a million fragrances this year. My one Wow experience has been...

Nasomatto's Duro. I should post a bit about the strangely times compliment I got on this the other day...

Where have YOU been OTTO??? Long time no see, well, for me at least! Good to "see" you again! My BIG recent wows (because I am an easy audience and tend to get wowed by everything haha) are:

    Cartier Declaration
    Andy Tauer Incense Extreme
    Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan
and God love it, Terre d'Hermes, the love affair that doesn't seem to lose its intensity (it's been almost a year and every time I wear it I get that same smile)

Good frag, but this is actually almost a 1:1 copy of a once (discontinued now) very cheap Italian drugstore frag, albeit this time done with high quality materials.

It's called 'Hascish Homme' and the company who made it is called Veejaga. It's somewhat of a cult classic in Italy.

You can still find the aftershave on eBay sometimes.

Makes perfect sense, since the founder of Nasomatto is also Italian. Guy used to live and work here in Amsterdam, btw.

Terre d'Hermes actually has been wowing me lately. I'm surprised at the fondness I've come to develop for it. Also tried Guerlain AA Pamplelune last weekend, and was very impressed. Delicious citrus that doesn't devolve into something medicinal and horrible after half an hour. I might have to get a bottle - which I can even afford to do!

Otto - I haven't heard anything about a TdH summer version. More info please?

I smelled Habit Rouge by Guerlain (the EdC) for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was extremely impressed. I plan on testing the Legere and EdT, so I can decide which formulation to buy.

A bottle will be mine very soon.

^^ While my thoughts for the thread may come later, I must say, the EdP is the winner of the Habit Rouge family. I don't even particularly think it was a close fight. Though, it is perhaps less "wearable" (i.e. perhaps too heavy for warmer weather...) it is much better (imo.) Hard to get and expensive, but worth it.

I'd hate to turn this fun thread into a "Terre d'Hermes" thread, but Otto, did you just want to toy with my fragile emotions? or did you just want to see how long stupid Anthony would search -- no, scour -- the internet looking for a summer version of Terre d'Hermes? were you kidding? and if not, you should start a new thread with the info...

I tested BPM at Ulta recently and it was a very pleasant surprise...thinking of adding it to my collection soon.

Frags i own that consistently "WOW" my jaded nose are Trumper Sandalwood and L' Instant de Guerlain Extreme EdP.

My latest wows were devoted to
    Li Altarelli - S de Saint-Aignan
Escale a Portofino - Christian Dior
    Tom of Finland - ELDO
    Sycomore - Chanel

And I need to find that bottle of Dior
    Vetiver The Great!!!

These are those that wow me this year-

Sycomore, Chanel Les Exclusifs - a perfectly blended vetiver, smoke and wood incense fragrance.

Jubilation XXV by Amouge is a great incense fragrance that is complex but really works well.

En Sens d' Bois by Miller Harris is a fantastic smokey incense that is subtle but very much alive and radiant.

Duro by Nasomatto. Masculine, leathery sublime and warming.

Vetiver pour Elle by Guerlain. Vetiver, jasmine and a light civet musk note at the end. Light, green and very compelling. It's a unisex fragrance.

No I actually saw the Summer version as I quickly went through the Fragrance Store here-I looked online and could not find it as well. That's like the new Mont Blanc fragrance I saw recently-can not find that online either.

Habit Rouge is a wonderful fragrance - it is really nonlinear, giving you 3-4 different faces as it goes from initial application to final dry down. Right in the middle is a slug of oily patchouli that appears suddenly and then fades away. There is a common sweet-dusty note that stays the whole time, once the initial blast is done.

    Its a real treat!
