Default Since my absents, any MUST try fragrances ?

    Hi all,

OK, I've been away from BN for nearly two years. Most old timer BN'ers know of my love of UNIQUE
(mostly Niche) fragrances and Attars. I love strong, odd, off beat, (some say STINKY) fragrances. Most of my collection is either VERY low or depleted! I plan to slowly built it back to it's once former glory. Of all the hundreds of samples I have tried over the years, certain Houses and Fragrances continue to be my favorites. That being said, what MUST try fragrances regardless of House have become a hot topic of discussion since my absents ? I care little if it's an old established House or a new House altogether.
Quality above all is what I seek. As a reference, I have listed some of my favorites :

    SMN ACQUA DI CUBA
    SMN PATCHOULI
    SMN NOSTALIGA
    MPG ROUTE DU VETIVER
    LV PIPER NIGRUM
    L'ARTISAN DZING!
    CREED TABAROME MILLESIME
    DIPTYQUE L'AUTRE
    MONTALE BLACK OUD
    MONTALE CUIR D'ARABIE
    GOUTAL SABLES
    MPG EAU DES ILES
    MPG PARFUME D'HABIT
    SERGE LUTENS MMK
    SERGE LUTENS CHENE
    ETRO MDM
    MAZZOLARI LUI
I PROFUMI DI FIRINZE FRESCO DI VETIVER
    PIGUET BANDIT
    L'EAU BLEUE D'ISSEY
    CREED MILLESIME IMPERIAL
    CREED BORIS DU PORTAGAL
    YSL KOUROS
    MCQUEEN KINGDOM
    YOHGI
    TRUSSARDI UOMO
    GOBIN DAUDE BICHE DANS L'ABSINTHE
    MILLER HARRIS FEUILLES DE TABAC
ETC. ETC. ETC. Thanks all for any and all suggestions.

    Regards,
    SixCats! aka Tom Patrick

    OMG YES YES YES

I think, you'll like the most:

TF - Oud Wood, Tobacco Vanille & Moss Breeches. Along with Tuscan Leather.
Armani Prive - Ambre Soie (maybe), Bois D'Encens and Vetiver Babylone
Chanel - Sycomore, Bel Respiro (maybe) and Bois des Iles (though you probably have sampled that)

Because of your love of the odd and off beat my first recommendation would be Le Labo Patchouli 24 the birch tar note inthat is one of the most unique I've found.Since you own L'Autre i think this is a worthy companion. I would pretty much suggest you work your way through the entire Le Labo line as I have found every one to have some interest.
I am also an an unabashed supporter of the new scent Comme des Garcons/Monocle Scent One: Hinoki as it is just awesome in my book.
The other line worth investigating is the Frederic Malle Editions de Perfume another line that I have worked my way through and really discovered some lovely things. Especially since you like Musc Kublai Khan you probably owe yourself a shot of Musc Ravageur.
Finally, as the stats keeper I would suggest you have to try Terre D'Hermes as it seems to be the most popular men's fragrance at the moment and if you're rebuilding then it almost seems you would have to start there.

Since you love off-beat scents, I suggest Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Male... I regret that I swapped my bottle.

Still, it's non-niche, reasonably priced, and very off-beat: neroli and orange blossom with a similarity to Kouros, one of your faves!
    Top 5 for Winter:

    2) Back to Black - By Kilian
    3) Musk Oud - By Kilian
    4) Encre Noire - Lalique

If you haven't tried it, you need to sample Salvador Dali pour Homme. Dark, incensey, gothic, off-putting. Sounds like something you might like (many are intimidated by its 'power frag' status - I adore it!)

I like Vivek's choices and would like to add a couple.

Narciso Rodriguez for Men - it's a love/hate kind of a scent, and was quite the flavor-of-the-month recently. Same goes for Black Orchid by Tom Ford.

It's not particularly stinky, but I find it very interesting scent: Lagerfeld Man (2003 edition).
Also, Narciso Rodriguez, Fahrenheit 32, Black Orchid.

Nasomatto Duro and Absinth are top shelf items. Hindu Grass is good too, only it doesn't stay on my skin nearly as long as the other two.

    I'll second a few...

    Le Labo Rose 31 & Patchouli 24
    Domencio Carenci Pour Homme 1913
Narciso Rodriguez for Men (I heard it was deliberately made to smell bad)
TF Tobacco Vanille (an old world sweet pipe tobacco scent)

    Profumo - Puro Lino
Chanel - Allure Homme Edition Blanche

Hey SixCats, Knowing how much you like and appreciate strong fragrances, I suggest Parfums de Rosine Twill Rose, which has an animalic savagery very reminiscent of Serge Lutens Muscs Kublai Khan.

Pretty much everyone on BN who tried the new Unforgivable Black love it, so I guess you could add that. I've yet to try it but I loved the original Unforgivable and many of the members say the Black version is the same but with a rum note that makes it smell even better, so it sounds quite interesting.

And give a try to the new La Cologne version of it.

Bond no. 9 Silver Factory, amongst some of their other offerings.

Of course, you can skip half of their line if you already have smelled most Creeds.

Messe de Minuit is one of Etro's best, and I wonder if you have tried Gomma yet. Beats Bulgari black by a mile, I would say. It's almost a leather fragrance, except in a direct comparison with Montale's Cuir d'Arabie. I keep sampling Etro's and am sure I'll end up with more. Not necessarily a must buy, but you should sample Dior Homme. Unique for that house and as a men's cologne.
You won't regret the kiss of the dragon: Baiser du Dragon (2003, by Cartier) and Hermes' Eau de Merveilles, 2006. Their destination is to wait eternally for men at the ladies' counter. Fleur du Male is seconded. It's roughly in the same direction (orangy floral). The dry down is really more masculine, though.Very positive vibrations.

    SixCats,

You should sample Domenico Caraceni Pour Homme (sometimes referred to as "1913", but
that is simply the date of the founding of the house).

Bold and well-blended, with great quality ingredients.
    A superb fragrance.

    Hey SixCats,
knowing a bit your taste for, let me say, "self standing" stuff I suggest you to try:
    - Parfumerie Generale: Aomassay, Musc Maori and many others...
    - Nasomatto: Duro and Hindu Grass
    - Etat Libre D'Orange: Rien, Jasmine et Cigarettes
    - Malle: French Lover
    - Eau d'Italie: Bois d'Ombrie, Paestum Rose, Sienne l'Hiver
    - L'Artisan: DZONGKA
    - Andy Tauer: Lonestar Memories, L'Air du desert marroccain
    - Dior Homme (regular and Intense)
    - Narciso Rodriguez for Him and for Her too

    Hi guys,

I would like to thank all my BN friends far and wide for all the excellent suggestions!
I am taking note (i.e. making a long list) of all the suggestions which I will then research and seek out samples to try. Wow, I guess I've miss a LOT over the last couple of years. I've got a lot of catching up to do! Thanks all.

    Regards,
