Thread: Aquatic scent with an edge
Im looking to buy an aquatic scent with an edge,
I was thinking an aquatic with some floral notes or citrus notes...
What do you recommend
Creed Millesime Imperial
Creed Silver Mountain Water
i Profumi di Firenze Brezza di Mare.
Catherine Deneuve: "You should put scent where you like to be kissed."
Mare by Creative Universe (aquatic with a fascinating avocado-esque drydown)
Acqua di Sale by Profumum (the smell of briny ocean water on the surface: salty, sea life, kelp)

Annick Goutal's Vetiver. Salt water and iodine. Evokes the sea without resorting to those horrid Erolfa notes of "watermelons bobbing in the sea*."

Its got to be Aqua Motu by Comptoir Sud Pacifique. I have never smelled an aquatic quite like it. Like the penguins enclosure at the zoo my 6 year old says!!
It truly is in my opinion the best aquatic out there. TRY IT!!
coor blimey mary poppins, is that Aqua Motu or the penguins?
You might want to add Givenchy Blue Label to your list.
It opens with a blast of grapefruit, then settles into a very good aquatic.
The thing that sets apart from most is the great vetiver and cedar base notes.
Quite good longevity and better than average sillage.
A very different Aquatic, literally a "Floral Aquatic" (aquatic plants like water lily), is Dunhill Fresh.
A very clean Patchouli, some basil and Baby Powder, and a heap of aquatic florals.
Very good longevity and sillage, and none of that baby wipe smell like Burberry Brit.
For a super clean "Chlorine Aquatic" L'Eau Par Kenzo pour homme
On the citrus side of aquatics: Millesime Imperial or Bvlgari Aqva pour homme
Montale's Embruns d'Essaouira. A trip to the Atlantic ocean, waves battering old Portuguese ramparts spray salty iodine in my face. And then there's Calypso Marine, another trip to the sea without being a boring aquatic.

I think I'd second the previous vote for Azzaro Chrome Legend as an edgy aquatic. It smells great, and lasts quite a while.
Most aquatics are pretty laid back scents like Aqua di Gio, Halston Unbound, Bvlgari Aqua, Eternity Summer 2006 and L'Eau Par Kenzo.
Those that have a bit more bite while still seeming like aquatics include Hilfiger Althletics, Gant Indigo, Erolfa, Jill Sander Pure Men and L'Eau D'Issey.
Then there are those that don't exactly seem like aquatics but have a "water" or "oceanic" note in them like Aramis New West, Horizon, Escape, Michael Jordan and Aquaman.
On the other hand there are plenty of marine scents that some people think in the same vein as aquatics, and these are pretty edgy - like Insense Ultramarine, Nautica, Nautilus Aqua, Nautilus Black Marlin, Nautilus Blazer, Kenzo Homme, Dali's Laguna, Agua Brava Sea Power, Aqua Quorum etc
If your'e after citrusy and watery, I suggest trying L'Eau Par Kenzo (doesn't last long on me) and Hilfiger Athletics (lasts very well on me).
Have fun sniffing around.

With the emphasis more on edge and less on aquatic, though this does come through, sample at least Etat Libre d'Orange's Secretions Magnifiques. Lots of people hate it and not sure I could wear it, but it's one of the edgiest creations out there at the moment!
I like Bulgari Aqua PH and L'Eau Par Kenzo PH (new for me) as standard aquatics, but I have to say that this thread is packed with far more interesting suggestions. Being a fan of hijiki and nori, I could go big for the iodine variations. I see a couple of great iodine suggestions. Any others? Also, how much difference do the Marine variants of Bulgari Aqua and Aqua PH provide? Mabrar's opinion especially sought, as another fan of the Bulgaris.
IMHO, I think Bvlgari Aqua Marine is Bvlgari's worst release to date and is also one of the worst generic-smelling aquatics. (like I said, IMHO) I literally owned it for a few minutes before selling it to a friend. Well, he likes it so good for him.
Aquatic with citrus = go with L'eau d'Issey pour Homme
Aquatic with floral = L'eau par Kenzo is a clean floral aquatic
Aquatic with edge = Creative Universe Mare - if you count the avocado as an edge...
Not exactly that "aquatic" but Burberry's Brit has a killer sillage
I'd stay away from Erolfa.

Alessandro Dell Acqua
Ice Men by Thierry Mugler
My recommendations lean heavily towards scents with a marine/oceanic feel as opposed to aquatic.
The Different Company, Sel de Vetiver
Le Labo, Neroli 36
CB I Hate Perfume, Mr. Hulot's Holiday
I agree with the recommendations of mikerperez23, Hoos, Ruggles, nsamadi, Magnifiscent and Renato.
Azzaro Chrome Legend is something
Hugh parsons Blue, Rochas Aquaman, Aqua di Roma by Laura Biagiotti and Baldessarini del Mar
Try Frederic Malle Lys Mediterranee. It opens floral and dries to a watery, oceanic, salted lily scent. I bought it as it reminds me of living near the ocean in summer when I was a kid. It definitely has an edge. It's as potent as it is expensive, so I actually find it very good value. Works best in hot Mediterranean (or Australian) summer.
Heeley Sel Marin is a great aquatic scent with an edge. A classy mix of acquatic notes, something fruity, and salty, woody base.
+1 for Aramis New West...it's like a slightly lighter, aquatic Yatagan. Definitely edgy.
“I wanna say something. I’m gonna put it out there. If you like it, you can take it, if you don’t, send it right back…."
Um... the original question was asked in May of 2008. I think he has likely found something by now.
Not that the discussion is not worth having...
