Default Do you have a scent that evokes a song?

When I come in to work, my SotD tends to dictate what types of songs I listen to on my iPhone as I work throughout the day.

Today, I'm wearing Clinique Happy, and I'm gravitating toward more upbeat, feel-good types of songs, such as "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire.

    Am I the only one?

It's funny as I was about to post a thread similar to this.

I like classical music and songs sung by tenor, countertenor, soprano and such. Whenever I listen to Gladiator by Pavarotti, I want to pour Arabian Oud on my bod. So divine, so encouraging. The sad thing is, I don't have much enough of it to pour, but to dab LOL.

What an interesting, fun thing to think about!

I am wearing Songes today to match the warm, summery rain here in New York. I want to listen to a melancholy, lovelly music. I would choose Erik Satie or Eric Andersen or Leonard Cohen.

Funny. I was just talking to my wife about this same subject the other day.

I have many scents that evoke songs in my mind when I sniff them in the air.

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan -Mategrahneesh by Sherine Ahmed (an Arab pop song I heard once in a car ride with a friend. Very sensual and almost sad. Perfect for the Sultan).

Hermes' D'Orange Vert - Conway Twitty's "Slow Hand"

Hammam Bouquet by Penhaligon's (my signature) - Debussy's Arabesque

Fantasy by Brittany Spears - The scent my wife wears whenever we want to get close. For this I choose Kate Bush's Song of Solomon.
"If a perfume stinks, it's a disaster when she turns off the light." - Jean-Paul Guerlain

The names of fragrances evoke the lyrics to songs I know.

e.g. The Dreamer, "Dreamweaver" by REO Speedwagon or "Dreamer" by Supertramp or "2+2=5" by Radiohead

Black Sun recently put "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden in my head

Since I read it yesterday I cannot free myself from the thought that Aramis (Aramis) feels like Richard Wagner. And Knize Ten (Knize) and Royal English Leather (Creed) feels like any song from Chris Rea.

Habit Rouge/"Daydream Believer" by the Monkees. The fragrance makes me think of fashion from the 60's, bowl-cut Beatle's hairstyles, & the "flower child" lifestyle--much like the image the song conjures up for me.

Also, when I go to Spanish restaurants to listen to the flamenco guitar players, I always choose to wear M7. The fragrance reminds me of the Moorish influence on Spanish flamenco.

I have mentioned in a different thread that Ambre Precieux is the Rachmaninoff Vespers in a bottle.

I am still looking for a Mahler symphony of a fragrance!

I wonder wether one fragrance could capture the extreme diversity of emotions presented in one single symphony by Mahler.

Well, Green Irish Tweed (Creed) might embody the overall optimistic atmosphere of the First symphony ("Titan").

Vouleur de Roses (L'Artisan Parfumeur) for the Sixth ("Tragic")?
Might be poignant enough for its pessimism.

Black Aoud (Montale) or M7 (Yves Saint Laurent) for the Seventh? A nocturnal perfume should do.

The original Opium (YSL), in its extrait form for the Ninth?
Has to be something rich and golden...

    Etc. etc.

Both Creed Himalaya and Silver Mountain Water make me think of the Donovan song There is a mountain.

Shalimar. Always evokes Marlene Dietrich singing "Falling in love again" for some reason.
Mitsouko. Makes me think of anything by Eva Cassidy.
Habit Rouge. The Capulet Ball sequence in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet (1968), where they do the "Maresca" - I don't know why, but it does... weird.
    - A spritz of Caron may be quite continental, but (a flacon of) Guerlain is a perfumisto's best friend...

    No, but-

songs remind me of times remind me of scents.

It starts with the song for me.

A track from Muse's Absolution album reminds me of becoming a PUA. When I would often wear D&G PH.

I can't even see the word 'patchouli' without thinking of Grateful Dead tour.... it's the smell of the parking lot at every show.

So today is my first "full" wearing of Tauer's L'Air Du Desert Marocain, and I'm listening to my iPhone at work, and this song came up and fits the fragrance perfectly (musically, not just because of the name):

The Heat Of The Day - Pat Metheny Group
