this 'Bad Wolf' is one of my favorite one-star fragrances.

notes include: pepper, star anise, licorice, sandalwood,
honey, hazelnut, myrrh, tonka bean and cedar

I am out of town for work. So I was already traveling when I read about this "special day". But luckily I always travel with at least one Creed fragrance, so there was a good chance I would have a 1 star wonder with me

So I will be wearing Creed Original Vetiver, or is that Creed Un-Original Not Vetiver

A special Happy Birthday wish to Magnifiscent and Twolf!

    Happy birthday Magnifiscent!

For today's "one star trash synch day" I'm going with two 'insulted beauties':

    Allure Homme by Chanel *

    and will later change to

Miel de Bois by Lutens *

"Utterly dull" and "New York sidewalk in summer" - you two deserved a better rating but that won't stop me from wearing you with pride!

    Caron
    Le 3ème Homme
    (1985)

Top Notes: Anise, Bergamot, Fruit Notes, Lavender, Rosemary
Middle Notes: Carnation, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Rose
Base Notes: Amber, Cedar, Moss, Musk, Patchouli, Tonka Bean, Vanilla

A fougère with some chypré overtones. At times I think this is understated; at others, simply well-mannered. Definitely not loud. The only thing it reeks of is elegance. The fruit is there to enrich the other notes, but it's the aromatic nature of Le 3ème Homme that dominates. Lavender, rosemary and clary sage are the main players in that aspect of it. Clary sage in particular is the soft muscatel note which gives this its distinct character. Lavender, moss, and tonka (and even clary sage) make this a classic fougère. Very good for daytime and casual wear, but also very much suited to the office.

Having left my Creed one-star Original Santal at home while on a trip (I am still learning, Joe!), I will be making a special purchase this afternoon. But my very late SotE for yesterday, technically my SotM for today, is PLATINUM ÉGOÏSTE by Chanel. Alas, I find that it is but a two-star in the guide - "sad fougère". However, the review is truly terrible, and I think that it should be given honorable mention.

This EDT was a recommendation on BN, and I am extremely happy with it, as is my wife, who gladly bought it for me when she smelled it in the store. For comparison, YSL JAZZ (****) is aptly named, and is rich in the syncopation and surprise of unexpected development. But I see PLATINUM ÉGOÏSTE as a sort of short soprano chorus - admittedly lacking in rhythm and beat, but piercing, striking, and shimmering in harmonic brilliance. A different animal, and actually one that I prefer to JAZZ.

biehl parfumkunstwerke - Mark Buxton - mb02. I really like this a lot (as long as I can smell it), but it stays so close to my skin that it becomes almost undetectable. Due to this poor projection I don't think I'll every buy a full bottle of this otherwise beautiful scent and I have to admit that it kinda makes me sad

Out of sheer irritation with Luca Turin I am going to wear the "crap amber" that is Ambre by Baldessarini.

It is possible to have a fragrance which alludes to amber without having to be a deep amber.

After all, Prada's Ambre for men is hardly an amber scent at all is it?

After this I may wear Allure by Chanel or Pasha as I am going out later this evening and women really like it.

Reading that list really makes me grumpy... lol.

For today's one-star wonder SSD, I'm in Sisley's Eau du Soir.

Turin and Sanchez dubbed this one a "cheap chypre" that isn't worth using since Givenchy III is back in production. I've never smelled Givenchy III (must add it to the test list!), but I find EdS to be a light, citrusy and pretty accessible chypre. Cheap? Maybe a nice value...

Notes: Mandarin, Grapefruit, Syringa, Rose of the Orient, Egyptian Jasmine, Iris, Juniper.

Discover the smell of nuts of Big Bad Wolf.

Well, I agree with Luca that it doesn't smell Big Bad Wolf. But I don't smell Wet Dog either as he suggests. To me it's a Mr. Fox or Mrs. Squirrel in the autumn forest. I like the nuts part of this smell, but a combination of liquorice and anise gives me a strong idea of pickles.

Since I am unwilling to inflict my sample of Miel de Bois on my coworkers and/or wife, today's One Star Trash Festival SotD is....Diptyque's Eau de Lierre described as "watered gin" by Perfume: the Guide. "For the fun of putting on perfume," writes Tanya Sanchez, "without the fun of smelling it."

Actually, it smells exactly like ivy. I would probably never buy a bottle of this stuff. I don't, actually, want to smell like ivy on most days. But it's a pleasant enough green scent and a painless way to participate in the One Star Trash Festival.
