"Wovon man nicht lesen kann, darüber muss man schreiben."
In the United States, July Fourth is our Independence Day. I'll be going to a county fair with my spouse and a friend of ours, and I'll be wearing:
Yves Coueslant, Christiane Gautror
Top Notes: Watermelon, White Lilac
Middle Notes: Hyacinth
Base Notes: Cedar, Oakmoss, Tolu Balsam
I've got to confess that I love hyacinth, and in this scent the hyacinth is beautiful. Also, I have to say that I don't like melon notes; but in this, the watermelon seems to be there mostly as a "boost" to the hyacinth and lilac. The base notes are woody-oriental, and provide an excellent foil for the florals. A floriental with watermelon... Go figure! I wouldn't have thought I'd like this, but I do. Going on, I thought it a bit feminine, but the green note that haunts the hyacinth and lilac keeps it from going over the edge, and it does mellow out pretty well. In any event, Diptyque sells it as a shared scent, and ultimately, I think they're right about that.

Tonight (still Thursday), I wore Santa Maria Novella's Nostalgia.
For the 4th of July, It'll be Terre D'Hermes for two reasons. 1.) The flint note reminds me of the smell of fireworks and 2.) I have to work and the girl I'll be working with likes Terre D'Hermes.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost
Many thanx to our cyberfriends for their good wishes on this Fourth of July!!!
Herrera for Men for me today -- am on a man-frag kick. This perfect for a hot day - starts out sort of citrus-lavender with a touch of ...licorice?. And settles nicely into a greeny herbaceous kind of tobacco. Thanx KBE!!!
Off to view an old-timey Fourth of July parade in a little seaport town - complete with High School marching bands and shiny antique fire trucks and kids being pulled in Radio Flyers and of course - the guys in knickers and newsboy caps riding the bicycles with the six foot front wheels!!

Vettiveru - CDG
I am at work today in the velvety Attrape-Coeur. I enjoy working on the Fourth. It is peaceful, and I can get much done. Then home, where I have chicken wings resting in four different kinds of rubs, to cook, open some champagne. We go onto the roof of our apartment building and have a glorious view of the fireworks. May the US truly be able to celebrate come the election!
Taylor of Bond Street Sandalwood
Happy 4th of July!
Tropicana by Lorenzo Villoresi (a very Limited Edition scent that Villoresi did, that I was able to snag a sample of from a generous Basenoter)

M7 - YSL for the morning!
"Faites des bêtises, mais faites les avec enthousiasme !" Colette
Neil Morris Fragrances Bois de Catherine:
Top notes: Aldehydes, lettuce leaf, basil blossom, black pepper
Middle notes: Rose, honeysuckle, plum blossom, hyacinth, lilac, hydrangea
Base notes: Leather, coffee, myrtlewood, light amber, opium, smoke, cinnamon, teak, vanilla, oak, patchouli, civet.
Starts off intense and spicy, goes through a lovely dark woody and sun-dappled flowers stage, and then lightens to vanillic-woody incense with basil/sand. I am one happy camper.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson
My sale thread has some of my underappreciated fragrances looking for a good, new home...
