Hey, Ruggles! I've read that Heritage is very similar to Shalimar.

Then, is Heritage very similar to Musc Ravageur?

    Thanks.

    No.
Shalimar shares lavender, bergamot and a medicinal note along with a lovely dose of vanilla with MR. While Heritage includes many of these notes, it's much more of a masculine themed creation; less sweet than the other two. Heritage adds a traditional, complex mix of spicy men's notes like patchouli, carnation, coriander, etc. which gives it a less unisex impression than the much simpler Shalimar.

I would put MR and Shalimar at opposite ends of the olfactory (is that a word?) spectrum

Tutorial: how to imitate the smell of MR.
First spray Gucci Envy on your chest and near the pubic area.
Then go run a couple of miles, work on construction or any kind of sweaty job and have frenetic sex with a stranger…
Then apply Envy again until you get a headache. Voila! MR. Not only did you save some money, you actually earned some and you are in better shape. Downside: you may now have an STD.

Sorry MR lovers, I have been thinking about this for a while. If you want revenge you can poke fun at my SOTD The Dreamer or Rive Gauche my favorite EDT.

I've seen threads like this before. Nothing is similar to MR, but you can get some sort of idea of it by smelling Gucci Envy and Lolita Lempicka L.

the closest i could think is a combo of Gucci II and L by lolita Lempicka with Carlos Santana thrown in for good measure.

but no designer frag comes close....Sorry...=(

They have some notes in common, you're right, but Shalimar is so complex .

Has anyone here ever tried Fleur Oriental ?

I have. I don't get the similarity with MR. Fleur Oriental smells a bit too floral and feminine (and I don't detect any vanilla at all) compared to MR.

And then again, Miller Harris isn't exactly mainstream :-)

Ungaro II very similar to musc ravageur. Did Jacques Polge create this one? It is very nice if you want this sort of thing.

Well I did not say you were wrong, but to my humble nose they are two totally different fragrances.
    1. One is a soft floral fragrance with poder and vanilla.
    2. the other is a dirty animalic fragrance of cinamon, red spices, woods and vanilla.

    Shalimar influential? of course!
But even if Maurice Roucel turned out to be Mr J. Guerlain* himself and said that MR is his creation, I would steel feel that the two fragrances are oceans appart.

*After all, have you ever seen them together? makes you wonder.

If you are talking about Miller Harris Fleur Oriental...I have it, and I think it is more like a nod to Shalimar. It is a sort of "light" oriental, and indeed is sweet and powdery. However, its lightness (I think it is referred to as "watered down" in the guide) means that it does not have the same impact as Shalimar, Lolita Lempicka L, MR, etc. I like it very much, but I do not see much resemblance to Musc Ravageur.

Shalimar (which is better in every aspect) and Le Male's drydown of coumarin, cinnamon, musk and amber.

The drydown of Musc Ravageur smells very similar to the drydown of A*men IMO.

Thanks guys for the feedback...Shalimar/Envy/Fleur Oriental seem to be the consensus.

The top notes are briefly reminiscent of Le Male. Then it dries down to something violently different that smells like something my mother wore when I was young. I'll have to ask her what she wore 15 years ago. This mysterious scent my mother wore however was certainly not Shalimar though as she notably hates (as do I) Shalimar. Shalimar is quite possibly in my opinion the most repugnant creation since the lord made Lucifer. Musc Ravageur is one of my 5 favorite all time scents.

    Cheers,
    Al
