Got 2 compliments today for Golden Boy Dueto at the office.
Gio by Giorgio Armani
Got like 4 today on my first wearing of Aventus... Plus it was first sniff love... It's like I don't even care what happens the rest of the week!
Top 5 Fragrances
Dolce and Gabanna The One
Strawberry body mist from the body shop. Women always tell me that I smell good when I wear it. I don't tell anyone what it is though! It smells so good on my body.
Not a female compliment. I did get complimented by a male yesterday. I will also note, this is the first time I've received a compliment wearing a JCE fragrance. It was Cartier Declaration. I was at Five Guys burgers, and the guy who worked behind the counter asked what it was. He was probably about 2 feet from me when he smelled it. I can tell he really liked it.
My 3 Signature Scents:
Rive Gauche Light (2004)
Paul Smith Man (2009)
Got many compliments with creed aventus (great cologne)
farenheit and ysl l homme
Out of my small collection, GIT comes in first. This stuff gets crazy compliments. A close second is Chanel Allure Homme Sport; this juice is also off the charts. Third is Aventus, but all the comments haven't been positive to be honest. I've had a few people ask me if I was smoking cigarettes.
Update: Lately, I also have received some great compliments when wearing Montblanc Legend (I know this fragrance is not liked here but it works with the females)
I was out shopping for my 4-month old baby girl this afternoon. I entered a shop, walked by a saleslady who was doing work. My back turned against her, I browsed some baby clothes from a rack, about a few feet away from her. Then I heard her say "You smell really, really good." with a smile in her face.
It was totally unexpected. I looked at her, smiled back, then thanked her. Wow. That was a couple of hours after my initial application. Now, I'm back home, and I can still smell Wonderwood by CdG, my SotD. I never thought it could leave such a scent trail when I only dabbed a few times around my neck.
Score one for Wonderwood.
I received Prada Luna Rossa Intense from my girl last week. I have worn it 4 times and it has been well received. Not sure if I like it or not but women seem to really enjoy this one. Its one of the few fragrances I own that have received compliments from strangers.

The Dreamer from Versace: what does this scent have that is so alluring and enticing towards the opposite sex ?
I was at university in the late 90's and used to wear a lot of "powerhouse" fragrances and the best female compliment receivers, in order, were:
1) Farenheit - Dior (by a long way the most complimented)
2) Joop - Joop
3) Polo - Ralph Lauren
4) Acqua di Gio - Armani
5) XS - Paco Rabanne
Just after I left uni I worked in a call centre and an older female boss used to adore D&G pour homme and basically bury her nose in my neck!!
Recently I hardly get any compliments, so don't know if it is me or that fragrances don't project so much. The only ones I have had any comment on are John Varvatos Vintage and YSL La Nuit.
I have received great compliments when wearing Aventus - Creed and Fahrenheit - Dior. If ladies knew how much it costs , many would have loved my Jubi XXV and Black Afgano but ... nope
The second thing I learned after I joined basenotes is that there is no correlation between price and compliments. Hanae Mori HM can be found for around $20. Compliments? Through the ROOF. I've gotten more compliments from HM than Aventus (I own and love both).
I noticed a lot of people compliment on YSL La Nuit so i am thinking about buying it, it's my first expensive cologne. Now which exactly they are talking about EdC or EdT, because those are two choices I see in the shop.
Prada Amber Pour Homme
Of a Man Eau De Toilette from The Body Shop.

The cologne I get the most compliments is Gucci Guilty Intense, I know most people on here don't really care for it but it gets the ladies attention!

But people who wear Aventus, receive compliments from people unaware of what they're smelling.
I was on the other side of the fence and now Aventus is my main frag. It smells rich and boozy. The leather/smoky accord is probably my favorite part.
Aventus is like a movie with a terrible trailer. You watch the first 30 minutes and you're falling asleep bored out your mind. You finish the rest of the movie and you're like this . . . .
Aventus receives a lot of acclaim. 99.9 percent of people cant be wrong.

Hmm. You find a totally baseless assumption, which contradicts all the evidence posted in this thread refreshing?
Sure - life gets boring if everyone agrees with each other all of the time imo.
And this is just a thread on a fragrance website so it's not exactly scientific proof of anything - just the opinions of a group of people, some of which may differ.
How would a scientific study on fragrance compliments work exactly? Wouldn't it entail people wearing a fragrance out in the real world, and seeing if it garners compliments or not? Like exactly the whole point of this thread?
I think that a scientific study (although it's uncertain who might be found to fund it as funding is certainly an issue over here) would work more accurately than this thread as there would be controls & stuff, whilst this thread is just sort of lighthearted fun combined with bragging type stuff.
Although it's quite possible that I'm just confused again...
Right I'm off up the wooden hills to Bedfordshire but let me leave you with a thought :
The posters who get so excited about Aventus are also the same kind of people who get so excited about a female compliment they would post about it on a public forum ???
oh look another aventus loving/bashing thread!
Compliments on Patchouli Leaves and Blue Amber, again
Yesterday I got a compliment on chanel allure edition blanche
Of a morning I always wear 'Spanish Leather Cologne' by Geo. F. Trumper.
Trumper is an 'updated' old-fashioned Barber in Curzon Street, Mayfair, London who have been around for a century or two.
Wherever I go women of all ages either smile at me or engage me in conversation as to the 'wonderful' fragrance I am wearing.
It used to be said that the best way to enter into conversation with strangers was to have a beautiful dog, I am not so sure about this anymore!
I'm wearing LIDGE to work today. I received three compliments so far. It's been over 6 hours since I applied it. It never fails to get compliments, every time!

My most complimented fragrances, in this order:
1. Allure Homme Sport
3. Joop! Homme
5. Versace Man Eau Fraiche
6. 212 men
7. La nuit de L'homme
8. L'Eau D'Issey
Honorable mentions (mostly fragrances that I've worn up to 3 times max. but got compliments too):
-Dolce & Gabbana The One
-Versace Pour Homme
-Bleu de Chanel
-Allure Homme Edition Blanche
Got a compliment on LIDGE as soon as I got to the office this AM.
reference spanish cologne by trumper, sampled some samples the other day, if im honest did not like it that much, guess i need to give it more wearings
Aventus is nice but I've gotten more male compliments on it than female. I have a relative who wears Aventus as do I, and I think it smells nice. But that's it, just nice. It's not a godly scent like some make it out to be.
JUB XXV. A bank teller who was kind of cute said she will take her time, so she has more time to smell me.
Tom Ford Oud Wood- smells expensive n sexy.
Carolina Herrera Original
Chanel Allure Homme
Jean Paul Gaultier le male -sexy! Makes me think of sex
Dior Bois d'Argent
Victor & Rolf Antidote
But nothing sexier to a woman than a males clean underarm scent!! Seriously! As a female that's the real panty dropper for me. Men don't wear strong deodorants
Edit* thought this was the Sex in a bottle thread for some reason. I don't get compliments on these but I def give em on them.

its overly hyped , people think they are special cos they are able to afford the retarded pricetag they feel they need to brag about how they think its so good that they go on an advertising campaign . Ever noticed how on fragrantica there is no listed frags of what it reminds them of , theres some fanatic troll on there that isnt allowing anyone to mention what it reminds them of lol classic brain dead like behavior .
Cartier Deceleration D'unsoir gets me compliments from young and older women.
Aventus is talked about so much simply because a hell of a lot of people love it! Just accept that and get over it for crying out loud.
If you're not a fan, good for you. Move on and buy/wear something you do love.
pfft truth hurts
really nailed it. It's fine if you don't like something, but it's wrong to assume something negative about people who do enjoy it. I happen to enjoy Aventus very much, though it isn't one of my most complimented scents. That's A-OK with me. I wear it for myself (and when I'm wearing something for someone else, such as on a date, I usually go for GphII or Hanae Mori HM).

i own aventus , i like it , i dont go bragging about it like a little kid , and G Man nailed it , i was sharing my opinion with his quoted comment , but it seems that people here are judged on post count and dont want to accept the reality .
