Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

Rive Gauche pour Homme.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Lime, Lemon, Black Pepper, Wild Basil, Rhubarb, Cypress
Middle Notes: Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, Lily, Mimosa, Cedarwood, Sandalwood Vetiver
Base Notes: Tonka, Vanilla, Musk, Amber, Olibanum, Oakmoss
This is a captivating scent. It grows on you slowly, but it blossoms beautifully. There's a lot going on in this scent. The pyramid is crammed with different notes, but somehow, it's all making beautiful harmony. Apart from the hesperidic notes in the top, the rhubarb and cypress (also in the headnote) pick up the cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver in the heart. The floral accord lends a touch of sweetness without overwhelming the greener, spicier and darker notes. Some oakmoss, along with tonka bean, in the base gives this a fougère quality, anchored by the florals and bergamot; and yet this is balanced by oriental notes in the base. It's not cheap, but in my estimation, it's much better than some that are even more expensive!

Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue vintage extrait. Compared to the EdT version, the extrait lets the extremely spicy - and long-lasting - flower notes come to the fore: carnation, rose, violet. Only very late, vanilla, tonka bean and iris soften the scent. Maybe I shouldn't have put it on for the office? Anyway, it's wonderful. Dark. "Old".

Guerlain Vetiver (1990's formulation)
Happy Wednesday Guys.
Today I am wearing:
Caron Le 3me Homme
It took me so long to wear my first Caron and now appropriately Le 3me Homme is the third one I wear and it is marvelous. All three of the Carons I've worn are so different and all so good on me. This one has a floral heart that just feels so amazing on me. It leads to a very intense base of musk and cedar and a touch of vanilla that is perfect. I think Yatagan will have to be a purchase in my future.

BrothaG - I think I am going to follow in your footsteps and go with an MDCI.
Came downstairs pre-ablutions and spritzed on Vera Wang Princess (thank you for the sample Musse) but I don't think I'm going to stick with it. To me - very Un-Vera. I love her sensibility but I don't think this frag reflects it - at least not on me - to me. The list of notes is semi-pretentious (to me) and the one that stands out the most is Pink Frosting Accord...super-sweet.
Need to go upstairs and launder self and find me some Invasion Barbare

For me a work of fiction exists only insofar as it affords me what I shall bluntly call aesthetic bliss, that is a sense of being somehow, somewhere, connected with other states of being where art (curiosity, tenderness, kindness, ecstasy) is the norm. - Vladimir Nabokov
I decided to go with Tom Ford Noir de Noir from a sample. I already wanted a full bottle of this just from the bit I tried on my hand before, but now I really want more after giving it a full wear this morning! I'm afraid it's a bit more potent than I'd realized and will be staying in my office for a few hours to let it settle down though
