    Default A damp woody fragrance...

A friend of mine would really like to acquire a fragrance of this type (preferably in EDP concentration) but the closest I can think of is SL's Chene - most woody scents tend to smell more dry than damp.

    So, any ideas?

Monocle x CdG Scent One: Hinoki.

    Without a doubt.

I'd throw Escentric Molecules - Escentric 01 to the mix. Something in it screams Wet Wood to me.

You could try CB I Hate Perfume's Black March absolute. According to CB's website, Black March contains notes that include "Rain Drops, Leaf Buds, Wet Twigs, Tree Sap, Bark, Mossy Earth and the faintest hint of Spring Flower Bulbs"

I guess I associate dampness and wood with mossy or green scents with wood notes. Some that come to mind right off the top of the head are:

Bois d' Orage by Editions Frederic Malle
    Maestrale by Profumi di Pantelleri
    Versace L'Homme
    Il Profumo G11
    Tom Ford Moss Breches
    Villoresi Vetiver
CdG Scent One Hinoki (as mentioned earlier)

I get that from Geir in the form of damp/wet wood and vetiver.

To me Duro is anything but damp. It is a very dry mix of wood and leather.

Well then just disregard the suggestion.

MPG Route du Vétiver has a steamy feel to it, and plenty of vetiver. Check it out if you can. It might be the thing you're describing.

Some good suggestions here. When I read the question my initial thought was Black March. It has this damp, mossy feel, but its not very woody.
Both Sequoia and Palisander strike me as damp and woody, with Sequoia as the smoother, damper of the two.
Route du Vetiver by MPG is a nice suggestion. And I think in general you may be looking toward a Vetiver. Sandalwood tends to be a very dry note, as does cedar. There are lots of woody scents that have oakmoss, sometimes giving that damp feeling, though I a coming up blank at the moment. Some musk and oceanic notes can also give that damp feeling. Erolfa and Bvlgari PH come to mind.

    Good Luck

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions!

I'm still not sure exactly what my friend is looking, in terms of notes, so possibly a vetiver would be ideal. I'll probably have to take them to a department store (or two) to try most of these...

Route du Vetiver is a great suggestion. Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's Parfum d'Habit also has a very moist, woody vetiver-patchouli accord at its heart. It always reminds me of a damp coniferous forest floor.

I'll throw in a vote for Profumum Thundra. It starts out with a damp, earthy smell with a very faint hint of mushrooms (although there are those who disagree with that last assessment). Drydown is beautiful, but the mushroom accord vanishes within half an hour or so. It's available at Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie on the 5th Floor of Harrods in Knightsbridge, so you can at least "road test" it locally. Enjoy!

I agree that vetiver makes a fragrance smell very wet. That said, I'd like to ad Etro's Vetiver to the list of wet woods.

It's light and it's EdT but it was inspired by driftwood and is definitely both wet and woody - Andrée Putman: Préparation Parfumée.

I think Heritage/Guerlain smells like a wooden fence, wet from rain.
