Default Looking for a very sweet overly oriental fragrance

    Hi!
I need help.. For a long time I´ve been looking for a rich, deep and warm fragrance, that would be very, very sweet, maybe gourmand, but still sharp and spicy, a oriental fragrance that would straightly remind me of lively far-eastern bazaars.
I find all fragrances, that I´ve been sniffing too light or "elegant".

I live in Finland, so please only mainstream suggestions, since I cant afford or get niche fragrances easily. You should also know, that many of "older" kind of classical fragrances ends up smelling bugspray on my skin. Bad skinchemistry I guess.

Perfumes that I like or have:

    shalimar
    shalimar light
    Carolina Herrera 212 sexy
    Gucci rush
    Lancome tropiques
    Cartier delices
    CK Euphoria
    Kenzo amour
    Lolita Lempicka

I´m a fan of vanilla and sandalwood

Im very happy, that I´ve found this amazing site, and I would truly apprechiate if you could help me with this .

I think Christian Dior, Dior Addict might suit you.
Top notes: Mandarin Leaf, Silk Tree Flower (no idea what this is)
Middle notes: Night Queen Flower, Bulgarian Rose, Orange Blossom.
Base notes: Bourbon Absolute, Mysore Sandalwood, Tonka Bean.

I second Black Cashmere, as I happen to be wearing it as I type. But Black Cashmere is discontinued and may be hard to get!
There is niche-hard-to-get and there is niche-readily-available. In the second category, may I suggest Parfums d'Empire Ambre Russe and Annick Goutal Sables. I feel sure that you will be able to order over the internet, samples first, of course. And welcome, my dear!

    what about Angel?
Fifi Chachnel is nice, but niche
Vamp by Ava Luxe or Love;s True Bluish Light.
I would suggest going to her site and sampling.

I must respectfully disagree about the Black Cashmere. I own it and it is one of my very favorites, but it isn't sweet to me, and I actually don't care for things that are particularly sweet. The incense, woods, and spices are to die for, however! So if you want to smell like a Moroccan bazaar, Black Cashmere is otherwise a very, very good one.

I'd like to recommend Le Baiser du Dragon by Cartier. The one thing that kept me from completely loving it is the level of sweetness coming from the creamy almond and amber. The strong patchouli, florals, and woods are very nicely done and I do admire this fragrance. When the weather cools, I intend to try it again to see if I can adjust my thinking regarding the sweetness, and hopefully appreciate the overall scent even more.

An attar called "Sweet Amber", just beautiful !

    Ambre Sultan - Serge Lutens
    Ambre Extrême - L'Artisan Parfumeur
These two are not particularly sweet but they are worth discovering.

I have to agree with Samsara. It's a BIG oriental with lots of sandalwood and vanilla. i also love Givenchy Organza Indecence but it is tricky to find sometimes. Kenzo Jungle le Elephant is also another spicey oriental I really enjoy. All of those are sweet, as much as I love DK Black Cashmere it is very dry to me. If you want a verrrrry sweet oriental try Pink Sugar.

Ooh! How about layering Black Cashmere and Pink Sugar?! Middle Eastern Bazaar meets County Fair Cotton Candy! I love layering Black Cashmere with other fragrances, especially soliflorals like YSL's Paris.

Right now I'm just loving the idea of a festival with everything from fesenjan to apple pie. YUM!

I join those who disagree about Black Cashmere: I find it totally dry and absolutely sugar-free.

Agree about Samsara, sweet Oriental with sandalwood and vanilla and easy to find even here in Finland. Tervetuloa Basenotesiin!

Would add Rochas Absolu (both versions) and Patou Sira des Indes to the recommendations list.

Thank you so much for all recommendations!
They gave a lot of idea about what sort of scents are truly "oriental" I can now look for describtions and notes, and figure what sort of scents I should get samples from.

I´ve been planning of trying samsara for some time now.. Sounds promising. I did sniff it once straight from the bottle, but obviously that gave me no idea what the scent smells on my skin..
Dior addict usually smells pretty floral on my skin, not much of oriental notes, so thats out Lovely fragrance though, but not what Im looking for right now.
What if I´d layer Black cashmere with some sort of pure vanilla perfume?

Trouble, Organza Indecence and casmir have been on my mind for some time also. I would just have to order sample of casmir and Or. Indecence (or the hole bottles) uproad, since I´m pretty sure they´re not available in finland. Same thing with pink sugar..

an oud girl: Your describtion of Le Baiser du Dragon by Cartier might be worth trying. And yes, I do want to smell like a Moroccan bazaar

    Hiya! Welcome to BN
I love all those suggestions above and all I can add is that if you're happy to trade almonds for sandlewood you could try Dior's Hypnotic Poison.

Do you have Yves Rocher in Finland? If so, I always recommend their vanilla bourbon as a great 'straight' vanilla and you can use the body products to amp up the vanilla levels in any perfume you choose to wear over them (ha!). Their Voile d'Ambre is great too - again, 'straight' amber but very good and very affordable. SImilarly, you can use the body products to really rev up the 'bazzar' level in your life!

Alica pointed me towards La Maison du Vanille and their stuff is great - 'vanilla plus', if you see what I mean; vanilla plus patchouli, plus tropical flowers, you get the idea. I'm not sure where to get it from though. Alica knows, I'm sure!

If you get the chance to order some samples from one of the online sellers, you might like to look at the Serge Lutens line. He really seems to specialise in smelling like a souk (in the nicest way). Oooooh! Here's an idea! Go to the Shiseido Palais Royale website, ( http://www.salons-shiseido.com/ ) find their 'contact us' thingy and ask very nicely if it's possible to have some samples of their perfumes. They might well post you a set of their famous wax samples. Then you can have a good play. I don't know if they have Un Bois Vanille on there but that's one I'd imagine pointing you towards as well as Arabie and Ambre Sultan. Tigs will be able to tell you if Serge is available in Finland, and where!

And try Opium. It's the ultimate oriental to me. Even if it's dated, I still love it.
Oh and Chanel Coco, for the same reason.
Neither of them have particularly got the things you're asking for but I think they're worth a try just because they're beautiful orientals.
And if someone offers you a squirt of something called Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, jump at it! It's boozy, rum-soaked, tobacco-stained rich smoky vanilla. Mmmmmmm......

    Have you tried these?
    Obsession
    Obsession Sheer (very sweet)
    Sensi and Mania (Armani)
Max Mara - which will give you the Moroccan bazaar touch: it has notes of ginger and sugar cane, very sweet
...and then you have Laura Biagotti's scents - try Roma, Venezia and Tempore Donna.
If you can get Fendi's Asja, you will *be* that bazaar; it has cinnamon, nutmeg and honey
to go with vanilla and sandalwood: a nice blend.
I hope that I was of some help there.

Le Baiser was the one I thought of as soon as I saw the thread title. I'd definitely second that over Black Cashmere. It's sweet, warm, oriental, mysterious, very sexy. Just a lovely fragrance.

Take anything I say with a large grain of salt (I'm a beginner in this world) but Lea St Barth Extreme might be a good one to layer (I layer the regular Lea St Barth often) - the notes are vanilla, almond and musk, it's very simple and quite strong.

You've gotten loads of EXCELLENT recommendations here! Le Baiser du Dragon by Cartier was the first one I thought of, or any of the Organzas, and BPAL Morocco is a lovely sweet and spicy cinnamon confection. I also second Opium and Coco for a classic feel, Sweet Oriental Dream if you're up for going completely over the top (I think you will LOVE it!) and Possets "Eve" for a $10 must-have (www.possets.com). Also, I think Ava-Luxe's Loukhum is a great choice for what you seem to be craving.

Gosh, for sweet I'm really thinking Lou Lou! Also I agree that Samsara may fit the bill. What about Opium or Cinnabar for spicy over the top? These are all readily available (Lou Lou online only probably). Also Sirene by Vicky Tiel--very sweet, and Chloe Narcissus (sweet and exotic). For the spicy side, though, the hard-hitters will be Opium and Cinnabar--Samsara for the beautiful sandalwood. As far as the bug spray factor, you will probably just have to test them all. I'll say yes-yes-yes also to Coco, Le Baisur, Tabu, and Habanita, and Organza Indecence but also Serge Lutens Arabie--definite sweet Moroccan bazaar (a little more $$ but wonderful).
