    Default Dk Men Is Alive?????

I just saw an ad for Bergdorf Goodman where they state that Donna Karan is re-releasing all her fragrances (including Chaos and Donna Karan Signature) exclusively for them.

Will they re-realease DK Fuel??? That is one of the best men's fragrances that were ever created?

Has any of you guys heard anything?

That would be fantastic, I never got a chance to smell it before it disappeared. Now, if only D&G would follow suit and bring back By Man.

I know that Donna Karan New York - the original women's scent - is still in production, just in limited distribution. As for Choas, the ladies here and over at MUA will go crazy for that one. Choas has achieved almost divine status.

As for Fuel and Unleaded, they are two amazing scents and I hope that they find their way back to the market ... and find their audience!

DK Men was the first fragrance i ever bought...i was a teenager...and smelled different than ANYONE else in school

i bought a 2nd bottle a few years later, which is still sitting at my parents house..in the drawer...i think it was stale or something, because it never smelled as good....

if they re-released it, i'd be in line to buy it again.

YOU ARE GOING TO GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw your thread title. If you see my previous posts, I've probably lamented more than anyone else on this site about it's discontinuation and by how MUCH I WANT this scent re-released!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DK Men first brought me to Basenotes because I wanted to know what happened to it!!!!

I rarely use ALL CAPS this much, but OH MY GOD I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(tries to remain calm for confirmation -- credit card poised and ready -- but prepared for disappointment as it's only speculation at best for now)

Lemmie guess -- they are eventually going to say "Oh....did we say ALL??? Silly us, we meant all of her FEMALE fragrances!!!!"

I HAVE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN.

It's absolutely true. I just placed an order for two 3.4oz bottles ($85.00 a piece). OP, take the question marks off your title and change them to exclamation points!!!

Call 800-218-4918, ext. 2733 and ask for Kevin Reynolds (not the director of Kevin Costner films!). I believe he is the Donna Karan specialist at the store. Note that it is carried in the Women's Fragrance Dept., not the Men's (they had no idea about it when I talked to that dept.).

He's very helpful and will make sure your order ships out!

We chatted for a few minutes (very nice fellow) and he did tell me that the bottle is not the same (no more gear shifter). It's a round bottle with a silver label that says "DK Fuel For Men." That's a slight downer, but it's the juice that matters, right?!?!?! And better yet, it's MORE than ever sold before...the biggest bottle was always 2.5 oz...now we're getting 3.4 oz!!! (NOTE: DK Unleaded was available in a 3.4 oz bottle, however.)

Kevin was not entirely sure if they are going to be carrying this permanently or if it is a limited release. He also didn't know for sure but he thinks only the NY Store will be carrying it.

    MONUMENTAL NEWS for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Kum bay ya, my Lord, Kum bay yaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!"

P.S. I know how all of you "Giorgio" and "Giorgio Red" fans felt now!!!!

By the way, THANK YOU, PeterV, for bringing this amazing news to us and bront82 for confirming!!!! There's no way I would have known about it otherwise. Considering they just got their bottles in TODAY, your timing was impeccable!

In my NUMEROUS posts here stating how upset I was that DK Fuel was discontinued, I always mentioned that if I ever met Donna Karan I would slap her for selling her fragrance line to Estee Lauder without some kind of "do not discontinue" claus.

To whomever is responsible for bringing this scent back, I owe you a big hug AND a big wet kiss!!!!

(I wonder if "they" ever read basenotes and factored it into their decision?!?!?)

    Raises hand!

I'll be sure to post about it, as I still have half a bottle of the original.

Although since I am on the west coast, I'll probably be the last to get it.

That would be something if it changed...which would not surprise me in the least. But I have faith that it will be close enough!

A special hello and and a *wink* to any of our Basenotes NY Brethren who can head over to Bergdorf Goodman's and smell it and take some camera phone pictures of the bottle and post them here.

OMG ... I will do just that. Fuel is my holy grail and even though it's being resurrected, I still don't regret paying the ridiculous prices I did to have 2 back up bottles in addition to the one I'm currently using. I'm actually kinda glad they changed the bottle because at least I have that to show for my money spent. The original bottle is great ... except for the fact that it, and Havana, both suffer from being top heavy and fall over at the slightest nudge of my armoire.

WOW. Your post made me go check on mine and I realized that both of my bottles had fallen off of my entertainment center during last week's earthquake here in Los Angeles. EEEK! Luckily, they are both fine (one of them is empty). My smaller bottle of DK Unleaded did not fall though.

Glad to hear the good news. I loved it from a sample, but when I eventually received a bottle, the scent seemed flat. I could tell it changed and wasn't as fresh, possibly do to light damage.

Anyways, I think I should retest the new stuff.

I have maybe 2ml left from a 2006 purchase refrigerated 15ml decant I have been reticent to finish off due to the price of rebuying Fuel on the Grey Market. This is great news! If I score a 3.4oz bottle I will definitely compare the new to the old

    ..and the champagne!

As far as I am concerned, as long as they come close to the original, I'll be happy. An exact clone would of course be nothing short of amazing, but a near reformulation will make me happy enough. WHY? Because there's nothing even CLOSE to DK Fuel being sold...nothing at all. It is a very unique smell that I have never encountered again. I've read the reviews where other people have stated it smells like or "reminds them" of Hugo Dark Blue, M7, Caron Third Man, Corduroy by Zirh, Silver Mountain Water....no way!!!!! Hugo Dark Blue is probably the next closet and least insane comparison, but I found that only remotely similar to DK Unleaded. And trust me, I combed the reviews trying to find something...ANYTHING similar...to avoid spending $150 or so on eBay for a bottle. It just was not meant to be.

That being said, I'll still remain as unbiased as possible in my comparison review. It still has big shoes to fill and if it's awful, I'll be quite vocal about it!

Its actually called DK Fuel but can be referenced as DK Men. He does have a younger brother, Unleaded, which is a fruitier, less formal flanker ... who is totally fabulous as well, but I guess he didn't make the new cut. So, yes there are two scents ... but here Fuel and DK Men are being used interchangeably.

Indeed....DK Men, DK Fuel, DK Men (Fuel)....it is very confusing, but they are all the same. When I spoke to the Kevin at Bergdorf Goodman, he read the new bottle and it says "DK Fuel for Men." LOL!!!

Interestingly enough, I believe he also said that the bottle had "Eau de Toilette" on it. The bottom of both of my bottles say "DK Men Cologne" on them. So I wonder what that is going to mean for the smell & longevity.

Come on, someone who lives in NY go check it out tomorrow and take pictures of the bottle. I'm dying here!

    Signed,

First Montana, then Red for Men and now DK Men / Fuel / Leaded. I never got into DK Men but it's great to see so many Basenoters excited about this - I really hope they haven't messed too much with the original formulation.

Hopefully, this is an indication that re-releases (as faithful to the original formulation as possible) is becoming the norm in the fragrance industry. Well, with the way things are going, one can certainly hope...

I'm really jazzed about this! I remember a long time ago I sampled Fuel and Unleaded--I can't remember which one I liked better, but never got serious into this hobby until it was discontinued. I always remembered the smell.

Then, this year I got mini bottles of both Fuel and Unleaded. They didn't wow me as much as I thought they would, and I think the reason is that they've gone off a bit. Kind of flat. So getting a fresh bottle is going to be awesome.

On the subject of the bottle, I never really liked the original bottle anyway. It looked goofy and like others have said, too top-heavy. I don't know what the new bottle will look like, but it sounds like it will be nice.

  31. #31

Default Re: Dk Men Is Alive?????

One thing I forgot to mention is that Kevin told me all of the Donna Karan re-releases come in the same size and shape bottle, so they all look like part of a series. I'm sure that helps them to display well.

I think he said it was a round bottle. I know he said that the bottle looked "very nice." Once an ambitious NY area BN'er goes to check it out (hopefully with a camera phone), we'll have a better look for sure.

By the way, that's quite impressive. 4 bottles!?!? Are they the little travel sized ones or the normal gear shifter bottle??? I usually see those little .25 oz bottles here and there, usually costing $15 or so. But I've never seen the gear shift bottles for sale anywhere other than on eBay.

They are the special edition 50ml bottle, like an all black version of the Unleaded bottle, and they were $40 each. I thought it was a good deal ... and I still do. But they just plummeted in value, though they're still very collectible.

THANK YOU! Not bad really. The original Fuel bottle is my all time favorite bottle as well, so at least it's still not transparent. Who knows if the juice needed extra protection from light or not?

Were you able to test Fuel and if so, can you compare it with the original?

I have an original bottle of DK Fuel that's probably 95% full. I liken it to a John Varvatos-type fragrance, replacing the vanilla with grapefruit. Pretty good stuff, just a little weird at first.

Old DK Men bottle looked like a spaceship toy a little kid would play with. I like the new bottle, looks a little like a tube of hair product, but it's sophisticated, simple and classic. Love the font choice and all black bottle.

I'll probably wear the old stuff tomorrow from a sample spray (though it seems flat, probably came from a rancid bottle) and might think about buying a bottle after I hear some reviews.

i never smelled the original Fuel, but i really like this stuff, especially the very first petrol-y bit!

I just received mine in the post today, a blind buy for me, I was putting a lot of faith into atrac's enthusiasm!

Anyway, the bottle is great, a good solid cylinder. The cap is chunky and solid, great bottle design (sorry, I haven't really worked out how to post pics)

As for the scent, again, never really having smelt the original, I sprayed it lightly on my inner elbow and I am now 2h into wearing it. There is a persistent pineapple note amongst a hint of petrol. It's certainly a unique scent to me, I haven't smelt anything like that before amongst the mainstream brands, not that I have too much experience. Anyway, I like it, and I think it was a good blind buy, will try it out properly tomorrow.

After a week of waiting, I got my DK Fuel today!!!!

    I don't think I've ever opened a box faster.

SO! How does it smell??? I've been doing a side by side comparison with my current bottle and it certainly smells the same to me! I don't know how scientific this comparison can be though, since my current bottle must be 10 years old (or more), but I don't really notice any change. If anything, it's a little stronger (due either to this is listed as an EDT vs Cologne of the original one OR because my original is indeed 10 years old!)

One thing is certain -- if someone blindly told me to smell this, I would know for sure that it's Fuel. So my original statement regarding if it was changed but close enough, I'd be happy. So I'm DEFINITELY happy.

But so as to not sound wishy washy on my review, I'm 99.9% sure that it's the same as the original.

And the bottle is very cool! It's got a nice, solid feel to it and it feels like it would make a good weapon. It has a nice weight to it as well.

    Fuel is back indeed!!

Definitely let us know when it does. I'll buy as much as I can!

I'm hoping for these to be available here - especially Black Cashmere. I'm well aware of the Fuel cult status here, but I've also learnt that the well loved ones here doesn't necessarily mean it will agree my skin. IMHO.

Chergui - I'm talking to you - anyone interested?

I'm waiting on our company's fragrance buyer to confirm if we'll stock it or not...hoping for some good news

I was browsing around my local mall, and the perfumerie happened to have found an unboxed bottle of Unleaded during a recent clear out! I was so avoiding buying any more fragrances, but I stopped to have a chat with the SA anyway. Having spent so much time browsing BN, I thought it would be positively rude of me to pass this one by. Unfortunately, they refused to budge on the price, so I had to shell out $70 for it. It appears to have a respectable amount of juice left inside it from what I can see through the dark glass, obviously I don't know where the fill line of a new bottle would be.

I'll try and give it a proper testing over the weekend, but initially, top and middle notes are very similar to the re-released Fuel.
