Note: This is unfinished, but I'm falling asleep so will finish it in the morning
Sometimes it is nice to know that you are wearing the most suitable fragrance for serious occasions such as peeling potatoes; boarding a plane at terminal 1-B at Malpensa Airport or maybe something like your wedding.
Well, don't fear as over the years Basenotes Readers have recommended all sorts of fragrances for almost every* situation possible:
Please note: Basenoters are generally more than happy to suggest fragrances for you. If you are making a recommend me a fragrance thread it is useful to list some fragrances you like (or don't like) as well as a bit of background about yourself. If you are new to fragrances, then check out the Just Starting Out board.

** Unlikely. Unless you're Sam Beckett after stepping into the Quantum Leap Accelerator***. But don't worry - Ziggy says there is a 89% chance you'll be wearing Kouros by the end of the episode. And who knows -- maybe that next leap, will be the leap home?
*** Still unlikely, being fictional

"Wait...is David Bowie really God?" - Penelope Garcia
Laughing so hard, I'm shrieking on the inhale...
The proper fragrance for this thread is either Nitrous Oxide or Cannabis Whatever.
Say Grant, was I reading it too fast or did you forget "What would The Count of Monte Cristo wear? "
Personaly I believe it would be an Oriental as he did travel to the Middle East after he escaped and found the hidden treasure. On the other hand, Pino Sylvestre would flame his vengeance, as it would remind him of the years he spent in a dungeon. Then again, on the other hand, Eau de Cologne Impériale by Guerlian would fit his alleged Napoleonic sympathies but on the other hand since he wasn't a die hard Napoleonist and was merely delivering a letter it would bring back painful memories, on the other hand it's quintessentially French and made in 1853, a true classic. On the other hand Napoleon kicked the bucket in 1821, but does this really matter? Then again, having been a sea captain, I think Acqua Bulgari would do fine, on the other hand . . .
A step in the right direction Grant .... but it won't prevent some newb on asking
"What Barak Obama wears ? ... reason I mention it is
It has been asked before but i can't see it on your list .

I've been thinking about one thing for a long time, now I feel it's high time to ask:
What would you wear in a spacesuit? Though there's no danger of people around you smelling you and making offensive remarks, however you are closed in a very narrow space with your scent for a long time.
One of the biggest question in the age of long-haul space missions waiting for us.
First, thank you for the much needed laugh and levity, Grant.
Second, having this as a sticky may not be a bad idea.
Third, sometimes au naturel is the best scent for the occasion (preceded by a thorough scrubbing in the shower/tub).
The only thing I want to know:
What scent should I wear to go shopping on public transit for Creed while wearing a lycra spandex bodysuit when the temperature is 105°F after having a dinner of lima beans, broccoli, and garlic-crusted cod the night before?
Catherine Deneuve: "You should put scent where you like to be kissed."
Just reading Grant's list I'm in a kind of floaty, nirvana-like state of Basenotes near-enlightenment. Wheeeeee!
But wait. What should I wear now?

Here's also a suggestion:
I wish Basenotes had a Category (male & female) List of fragrances characterized as predominantly florals, fruits, fougeres, aquas or blues, grasses or greens, chypre or woods. orientals or spices, tobaccos, etc...or however best (professionally) they could/should be categorized...I know there is a certain amount of cross-over of elements...if Basenotes does have such a category page I have not as yet been able to find it...
Here might be a starting point from - http://www.janmoran.com/perfume_101.html#Overwhelmed
Popular fragrance categories:
Floral single flowers or classic floral blends, fresh, fruity, or powdery
Citrus Fruity lemon, orange, bergamot, apple, berries
Aquatic rain-fresh or ocean aromas
Nature Greens fresh-mown grass and spring leaves
Oriental vanilla-ambery or spicy-woody, floral Oriental blends
Chypre citrus, patchouli, moss
Fougère (meaning fern) well-balanced citrus, lavender, woods (popular masculine fragrances)
Woody pine, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli
...Federal District Court...
We're a third party representing community interests in a nationally priority listed superfund cleanup of a river complete with dam removals. I was wearing Patchouli Patch and I bet others were wondering where the hell were my birkenstocks!
Next time I'll go with something classic and standard like Guerlain Vetiver or maybe something from Bond.
Currently looking for Ava Luxe Midnight Violet
Visit my offsite sales thread for other items for sale - just updated!
Can we get a subforum for "what to wear" recommendations? Fragrantica has a board like that and imo it's a great idea. There are a LOT of threads regarding what to wear for <whatever>, and having them all segregated off in their own forum would really give a chance for the more serious threads on the male fragrance board to blossom.
Iris Pallida 50ml
Ungaro I 75ml
and more! - http://www.basenotes.net/threads/301...n-Man-and-more
Now all you need is a random generator so one could get a response such as:
" For a first date . . .While meeting congress . . .Lex Luthor would wear . . ."
Damn! I missed this Thread when Grant first posted and up to this AM.
No more guesswork! No more embarrassment over wearing the 'wrong' frag for the occasion! No more blindfolded frag picking! Gracias socialwoman, for the tweak.
