Default Perfumistas - what is your favorite single note?

What single note - rose, labdanum, jasmine, neroli, etc. - calls your name so that you search out every perfume that contains it?

We only get to pick one? I'm going to cheat and pick two: labdanum. vetiver.
Most of my favorite fragrances note vetiver in them, but I seek out labdanum.

    White flowers.

O.K., that's cheating, but as much as I love jasmine, tuberose, and ylang ylang individually, I adore them more when one or another is more prominent, while the others play supporting roles

    Rose. I also LOVE sandalwood.

    Great question!

I would say my most adored single note, straight out of the essential oil or absolute bottle is hands down ROSE. Especially rosa damascena. It is so incredibly uplifting and almost otherworldly in its beauty--spice, dried fruit, flower--rose has it all.

However, I do not seek out rose in perfumes per se. I find that the artificial rose reconstructions are not satisfying for the most part. One reason I love Chanel Coco so much is because it takes advantage of the "preserved rose" scent that I adore in rose absolute. Most others try to mimic the live rose, and they almost always fall short for me.

I'd say that my love of rose absolute makes me want to seek out other spicy, fermented fruit scents. So, Shisheido Feminite du Bois absolutely fills that need. Other boozy scents are also great, especially when combined with amber accord (not necessarily ambergris, but the vanilla, labdanum, benzoin type mixture). Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe is very boozy with an amber accord drydown.

As much as I love sandalwood...well, it is not in the driver's seat, lol

Without a doubt, it's frankincense, followed by kyara (now mostly a synthetic note, but the Japanese have several excellent molecules).
I keep a large bottle of Somalian frankincense absolute and several jars of the resin in my perfume nook- it doesn't even need to be mixed with anything, it's perfect on its own, though of course it blends well with umpteen ingredients.
I would love to get my hands on some of the synth kyara but have no idea how to find it.
    Great question!

Like Therese, I'm not really a single note person. If I could only smell one single note it would be JASMINE!

(I also seek to sample frags containing frangipane, gardenia, amber, tonka, anise, vanilla, oakmoss, some patchouli, some woods, some musk, and any out-of-the-ordinary note or odd combination! I have never sought out a fruity note - ever!)

More a type than note -- the classic chypres (oakmoss/landanum/bergamot) and if what I'm reading about the EU passing even-more-draconian regulations, I --and all the other chypre-lovers out there -- am in real trouble.

Just one? I don't think I can do that.

Lavender, although this may be misleading since I love it so much I just a high quality essential oil and don't usually buy perfumes with a lavender note (I like it uncut). In perfumes...hmmm...am big on white flowers, like Black Cat.
