Default SotD Saturday, 10 September 2011

    Good morning,

It's sunny and summery here. Breakfast was pancakes (crepes) with Creme de Marrons de l'Ardeche... yummy! French lifestyle is delicious...

I ordered directly from France, after I had navigated through the French only website (not that it surprised me really ). Also tasted the Marron glacé and the ones in syrup and plenty of Cognac for breakfast...
Scentwise I reached for Roja Dove's Enslaved Parfum. I had nearly forgotten how great this is.
I know Caron's Or et Noir with its real Marron glacé drydown would have been a perfect match.

    Enjoy your day!

I Profumi di Firenzi Lilla today -- nice lilac scent combining freshness, sweetness, earth and erasers, getting powdery as it wears and acquiring tonka-like warmer undertones.

    Happy Birthday, shades!

SOTD is Dior's ebullient, golden Dolce Vita. I don't usually class frags by season but this one surely feels richly autumnal to me, all spiced stewed fruits and woody goodness. So lovely and smooth.

    Have a great day, all!

Guerlain Homme EdP. It's green made delicious, with a wonderful salty, slow-burning tension of vetiver, cedarwood and patchouli through the drydown — as promised, an evident nod to Jean-Paul Guerlain's Vetiver, and with that tweedy feel of roots and windy highlands we know from as far back as Djedi and Sous le Vent.

I really want to get together with each of you!

SOTD is from a sample of the beautiful iris, Irisss by Xerjoff. This little stunner was given to me by a kind & generous basenoter. (You know who you are, sweetheart!)

On another note, today is the debut of ThePerfumeMagazine. A number of dear friends (including several members of basenotes) are contributors.

I'll try to post more often, now that the move is complete and I'm down to a couple of decades of boxes...instead of hundreds.

    Hello Everyone,
Quickly logging in from Krakow to say I'm wearing Villoresi's Acqua di Colonia. Conference finished today and will be back home tomorrow. Got to bed at 5am and was up again at 7am to present my paper. Despite looking, and feeling, like death warmed up, it was well received so I am very, very relieved.
Hope I haven't missed too much gossip here

Started with Rumba this morning. Hadn't worn this in a while, and I know it is not universally loved, but I think it's a fun fragrance. So when it wears off (next decade?), I plan to go with something a bit calmer. Eau de Cologne Imperiale, maybe.

Spritzed on the sample of the new Bottega Veneta EDP -- wasn't expecting much, but you know what -- it's really lovely. I read the notes and thought "egads, pink pepper' (usually a bad note on me). But it's absolutely gorgeous. Notes are supposed to include
patchouli, oak moss, bergamot, jasmine and pink pepper. PST also says lots of orris (yep!). I keep catching a whiff of a hay note, too. The jasmine is very pretty and not at all indolic or obnoxious. Beautiful.

Byredo Pulp is my SotE, compliments of a wonderfully generous BN comrade for this. People are talking about overripe pineapple, fig and even apples in Pulp, what I have got is gooseberry jam done right (with cherry tree leaves), sweet and quite long-lasting. Nobody in their right minds will eat gooseberries -- underdeveloped kiwi fruit of the north -- as they are, besides they are a challenge to be picked up from a shrub leaving scratches like a dozen angry cats on one's arms, but done right -- in preserves and pies with honey and sugar-- they can be close to perfection.

LOL Twolf! We had a gooseberry bush in our yard when I was young and I loved eating them! You really have to wait until they are ripe, though-- then they are marvelous. But yes, the jam is even better-- my grandmother made jars and jars every year and we gobbled it up.

We used to have several bushes of jostaberries, which were even nicer: these are a cross between gooseberries and black currants. Again, they made the best jam ever, and I'm still vexed that our bushes died as we are not longer up to planting new bushes. And the last time I visited an orchard to pick them, I got a nasty case of poison ivy.
