Cool How would you describe Zanzibar by Van Cleef & Arpels?

Hi all, I picked this up on a blind buy. If you read my thread on sample first before buying, I broke my personal rule I could not find any decants/samples of this using Google. The price was good and it's discontinued, so I grabbed the remaining stock. The plastic wrapping was a bit beat and dusty, but it was still intact nontheless, so I don't want to open them.

Anyhow, what does this smell like to you? Any fragrances you can compare this to?

A citrusy, spicy, peppery scent. Have a large bottle of this and I personally love it.

Interesting, thanks for the input. Any other fragrances smell similar? I have a 1.6 and 3.3 of this (the boxes look a bit different though, the smaller one is burgundy with a blue label on it, while the 3.3 is all burgundy). I have seen both versions floating on ebay. I wonder if there are different formulations.

It was a disappointment to me. I had one, found it for a good price and to me while it was pleasant i found it very weak. I smelled something spicy, citrusy and woody, but too thin on my skin that i could barely detect it after 3 hours. Ended selling mine and honestly i don't miss it.

One of my favourites - still dig out my original bottle on high days and holidays. What's it like? Think Bleu de Chanel and dial in spice, pepper and ginger and elegance. A sort of better more sophisticated Bleu.

The all burgundy (contains glass bottle with diamond burgundy stopper) is the 2001 original. The other box contains the strange silver bottle with the reform. I only have the original which - as I say - is wonderful.

EDIT: For clarity - original like this - http://is.gd/P8KNPg

Thanks for the input. You said the original is all burgundy, yet the picture you show has the blue label part on the front. They both have the same bottle, according to these photos:

    All burgundy: http://galleryplus.ebayimg.com/ws/we.../1000x1000.jpg

    With some blue: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...PL._SY300_.jpg

Ah, I see what you mean - have a look at the entry in the Basenotes directory and you'll see the other bottle style - no idea then what box that came in!! And sorry for earlier confusion - the one with some blue is the original (ie the one I have which was bought when it came out in 2001). I think the boxes with the VC&A in the diamond logo are held to be not so good - Tsar and PH in such boxes are generally to be avoided.
