Default First date tonight-Need a recommendation

    Hi guys-
I'm going on a first date tonight with a girl I've been talking to on the phone for a couple of weeks now. We really do seem to get along quite well, atleast over the phone. Anyway... Looks like we are going to PF Chang's for dinner and I need suggestions on what to wear. Here are some of the frags in my wardrobe. Thanks for your input.

    Creed Selection Verte
    Creed MI
    Creed GIT
    TdH
    Versace Black Jeans
    Gucci PH
    Gendarme EdP
    M7 Fresh
    M7
    Montale Aouds-Black, White, Lime
    Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand
    Rochas Lui
    Tauer L'air du Desert Morocain

Hm, if its dinner first, then Id turn the volume DOWN a little to begin with.

You need to steer clear of the hardcore ones (Creeds, Montales etc), and go for something that will slowly warm on the skin and radiate. Then, hopefully by the end of dinner, you're smelling magnificent for whatever comes next.

Id suggest the Ormonde Jayne, or TdH.

    Have fun!

Choose whichever fragrance you feel most comfortable wearing - the one you grab instinctively. You don't want to spend the night thinking about your fragrance selection when you should be engaging in witty repartee!

Anyway, TdH would be my choice.

You best weapon on that list by far is LdDM, but I wouldn't use that on a first date. Save it for a few months down the road when (hopefully) you have had several successful dates with this woman and you truly enjoy her company. Therefore, I would suggest something that's different and playful without trying too hard...

I agree with TwoRoads. Choose the one that will make YOU feel best for this particular occasion. One that will help with nervousness and help you be yourself! One that just feels *very you*. And yes, go easy on application, whatever you choose. Have fun!

I'd go with the Gendarme EdP and hope to high heaven she doesn't look like Burgess Meredith. See, that's better to worry about than what fragrance to wear

Hope I don't offend anyone by my choices. It looks like a toss up between TdH, Isfarkand and Gendarme. Thanks for all of the good input you guys. And, thanks for breaking the tension Silverbullet. Cracked me up. It's rough... Didn't think that I would still be going on first dates at nearly 50 years of age(and still nervous as a school boy). Have a great weekend all!

Well I'm glad I could help. Dating again can be quite daunting to say the least. I've given up alltogether after being blackballed from American Singles, match.com, and eHarmony for just being myself

Good luck, you'll be just fine. If you need any tips, just call me

I'd personally go with a few light sprays of Black Aoud or Gucci PH since the date may be in the late evening or night. Though, a few have been suggesting to go light, then I'd suggest MI.

A single spray of Tauer... just enough that it's noticed now and then. You don't want it to get in the way of the glorious, magical lettuce wraps there.

I hope she doesn't mistake my uncontrollable drooling over the lettuce wraps for some untoward reaction to her. By the way... Slightly off topic, what do you recommend for an entree'? I was only there once before. Loved the lettuce wraps but I don't remember what I ordered for the main course. Tx!

If you have any Aqua Velva or Old Spice, I would suggest using that in lieu of anything heavy or sensual. Or Acqua di Parma.

I would just do a single spray of Tauer on your chest and neck area. Dress nice, open doors, pull out her chair, and treat her like a lady.

    Play it safe, GIT.

Adventurous I'd say M7 fresh, but use a light hand.

You've got Gucci, but not Envy, which would be automatic.

Relax and have fun. Wear something that goes well with a casual date out I've always found that heavier fragrances aren't that well suited towards dinner-dates, because they get a little cloying after a while. Something light and fresh would be a good choice, maybe TdH in a reasonable quantity would do perfectly.

don't wear Creed....it'll make you seem like a dork.

wear that Tauer Morocain stuff....safe, fresh, and pretty charming i think.

This may be too late but here are a female's two cents here:

Remember she's at least as nervous as you are about meeting for the first time in person. She's probably asking all her friends and family what scent she should wear, along with how to do her hair, what earrings to wear, clothes, etc.

I think TwoRoads said it quite well:
Quote Originally Posted by TwoRoads View Post

What feels like a natural choice for you? What makes you comfortable? BUT also, what Dimitri said: go low key, don't spray too much. She wants you to be able to smell how nice she smells too.

Oh, and my mom always would say not to order noodles or ribs on a date: they're sloppy, can ruin your clothes, and it's hard to look good eating them.

It's kind of counter-intuitive, but all of the above, AND also, try to relax, try to be yourself, and it's expectable for it to be a little awkward, so just let that go. It doesn't have to go perfectly. Having a sense of humor about the awkwardness of the situation goes a long way. Sorry, you weren't asking about dating advice, just scent and dinner!

Hope you have a great time, and I hope you'll tell us what you decided upon, and how it went.

Good luck on the date, I was out of the scene for a little over 3 years, and let me tell you, getting back in was the most nerve racking thing I've ever done.

Go for the bottle you'd go for without thinking about what you're wearing, thats the one that makes you comfortable.

Honestly I don't think any of those scents are too outlandish or offensive, so a single sray on your chest or 2 would be fine for almost any of them.

If you haven't picked yet, another vote for TdH, then Black Jeans for the second date.

I too was going to suggest the Isfarkand or the Tauer. Both are discreet for a first date, but speaking for myself, the Tauer would also be perfect for later dates - that is definitely one that "could go all the way", as it were!

I would go for TdH too, or the Tauer, but like everyone else said what ever you feel most comfortable wearing and the one that best describes you in respect to smell (the type of person you are, shy or active, outgoing or smoking cigars at the club...etc).. hope you have a good one though.
