Thread: SotD Wednesday 24 September
It is a windy and drizzly Wednesday over here!
Started off with Cartier Le Baiser Du Dragon and changed to The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit after lunch.
Juliette has a Gun landed in Hong Kong. It reminds me of Agent Provocateur, Lovely and Narciso Rodriguez (just to name a few). The price is approximately 20% more than what I saw from the US website. I probably don't need another bottle of those, so money saved. Yay!

TBS No Debate. Still a little bummed it's long since discontinued.
I'm in lovely Chergui, though not wearing it well today. I usually have a problem with dominant cedar notes and this is no exception. I hope it will warm and mellow on my skin as the morning wears on, but for now it is just a tad too sickly.
Bulgari's Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge.

Starting off the day in Caroin's Or et Noir-
Rosy and rich.
Hope Neil and David did well in NYC last night !
This am is the press... how STRESSFUL !!!
Louve, I don´t know why this one isn´t getting that much love here on basenotes. I find it a very understated and subtle perfume. I get a good blast of cherries and then the smoothe feeling of almonds. It might sound like another fruity number that is so popular outside of the niche perfume world but I think it´s not fruity in that way.
It´s reminds me more of a softer Datura Noir with a hint of cherry liquor maybe.
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
Fraternal scent twins with Aboodchy,
Hermes Hermessence Ambre Narguile for me as well today (minus the Tom Ford )
Have a lovely day, everyone!

"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." What I am loving right now: Shalimar vintage extrait, Chanel Bois des Iles, Chanel no. 22, Le Labo Iris 39, Guerlain Iris Ganache
Nose still wonky - so I'm still grabbing my predictable-behaving scents.
Today - CdG Avignon. It's been a long time since I've worn this one.
Hint of chill in the air - time to drag out the incenses!
Even though it's heading for the mid 70's (F) today - there's a chill in my little house and I had to turn on the heat. Thank GOODNESS TDI picked out
for me today - PARFAIT!!

Hello all you gorgeous-smelling ones!
Today (yet another) big meeting at work, plus a possible press pitch, so I need to smell great and capable.
Think I've managed that with Costes.
Costes notes (from Luckyscent): Lavender, bay-tree, coriander, white pepper, rose, incense, woods and light musc .

Jean Patou 1000, and I'm off to work.
Have a nice rest of the week, everyone.
Mine has been bad. I don't know what happened, but this week everyone--students, family, everyone--is positively bitchy. And I've been busy writing tests (at home for no pay) and having to grit my teeth through all their selfishness. Good thing I'm feeling relatively calm. Mabye my biorhythms are 180 degrees out-of-phase with everyone else's. I hope to literally cancel out their vibes.

I also found the first 10 odd minutes of Datura Noir and Noix de Tubereuse (Miller Harris) eerily similar.
My SotD ---> Love at first Glow.
I tried this one (again) last night and love how lovely and yet complex the opening was. It doesn't seem to be and innocent scent as the ads suggest. But it stayed with me for only half day.
Have a nice day all of you.
I am wearing Mitsouko. Makes me feel womanly.
Wearing Infusion d'Iris today. Was running late this morning and couldn't give it any thought -- this is my go anywhere, smell good all the time scent.
Got to be quick as I'm still in the middle of moving house, though the end is now in sight, thank goodness.
I'm in La Maison de Vanille, Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar. It's very nice. Thanks Alicka!
And a Prarie Home Companion moment (great podcast!)
We have moved to a little village in the Zurcher Weinland, very pretty and tradtional. Today I was hanging out washing when I heard really loud cowbells (we've got used to the regular cowbells tinkling away in the field across the road), so went to look out of the front window. There was a procession of cows walking down the road to the winter pasture, wearing decorated head-dresses and huge cowbells. It's a traditional thing. Wonderful!

My old faithful, Sisley's Soir de Lune. It's been too long since I last wore it. Have been lavishing far too much attention lately on silly samples and frankly underwhelming novelty scents.
Guerlain Cherry Blossom parfum today
amouage DIA, smells so female. I love it.

Today wearing the ohhh so soft and lovely Frederic Malle L'Eau d'Hiver. I do wish it was longer lasting, but it sure is nice while it's there. The SA gave me a tiny sample of the body lotion when I bought the perfume, but I don't want to "waste" it at work.
Balmain's Ambre Gris. Very nice so far (my first day trying it).
Check out our art car!
Wearing Chanel Coromandel today , picked by my youngest daughter ( Emily) because today is her birthday!
As per custom I slaved over making a cake last night after she was in bed (Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Icing). I always wake my children up on their birthdays singing happy birthday with their favorite cake ablaze with candles.....then we have cake for breakfast!
Neil Morris' Woodland Strawberries again. I usually don't like fruity scents, but this one is really more woody than fruity. I guess that's why I like it so much.
Lian, Louve sounds interesting!
Not only a great smelling mommy (Coromandel!!!), but super-special homemade cake first thing in the morning too! Interested in adopting grown up babies?
Going to test out Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere today.
I really want to wear my new one, but I'm freaking out about dipping into my new bottle of Carnal Flower because of it's cost. I need to get over that. I've just used my samples until now, and am actually terrified of using the first spray out of my too small 50ml bottle. Why couldn't I fall in love with something affordable like Tocade? Geez.
TDI: Wishing Emily a great birthday!
Wordbird: That's really quaint. I love hearing about charming traditions. Thanks for sharing.
Woohhooo... found a little sample of Iris Poudre in my purse. Changing from one iris to the next. This is very soft and quite lovely... I was gifted with a few of these samples from various BN'ers... enough to last me a little while so that I don't have this on my wishlist yet.
Purplebird-- Hugs for you! I think some people get cranky during the change of seasons, knowing summer is over and winter approaches.
Wordbird-- That sounds so charming! How nice to know these traditions continue.
tdi-- Birthday cake for breakfast! I see room for new traditions too! Anything for cake! I'm pretty klutzy though; might set the bed on fire.
I'm sampling Guerlain L'instant today (thank you, Twolf!). I have companying arriving in a couple of house, and they will be spending several days with us.
Have a great day, everyone!

Patsy: Oh, this? Chanel No. 5.

BPAL Twilight this morning, and just put on some L'Eau d'Hiver - for some reason, Turquoisewater, this one lasts very, very well on me. I've even smelled it post-shower, still on my skin. Personal chemistry is weird!
"It's now very common to hear people say "I'm rather offended by that." As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well so fucking what." - Stephen Fry
Purplebird, hang in there. Big hugs in your direction! I've had a funny day like that too. Odd.
Still in Juicy Couture today. After my Anais Anais double-take yesterday I just had to give it another go. And yes, now I really am sure; there is a resemblance. Anais Anais is more sour though. JC is very wearable on me - it goes powdery and soapy in the nicest of ways in the end and never sickly.
Anyway, Oud Girl has made me crave L'instant again. In reality, I have no idea what to wear tomorrow. I'm on a day trip and working in someone else's office tomorrow, so perhaps nothing too powerful. Hmm.
Busy, busy day today! Hadn't even time to post my SotD, which was ELdO
Only apparently innocent, this little beast lasts and lasts and becomes more andmore naughty. I can still smell it going strong 14 hours after application!
I'll stop wearing black when they make something darker
"The world is ruled by letting things take their course. It cannot be ruled by interfering." Lao Tze
I'm smelling wonderful in Givenchy's Hot Couture today : )
The only saving grace is that others are suffering with me.
I figure it's a good opportunity to experiment with "nice scents when you can't smell anything" / "stuff to wear when you are feeling extra perfume-sensitive"
I'm wearing Patchouli Patch, which I hadn't chosen for months and that now doesn't seem so great... Funny (and irritating) how favs change!
Wore Bryant Park from my sample. Used a fair amount of it today, instead of the stingy little amount I usually apply from samples, and was impressed this time around. Bryant Park isn't loud or glitzy. It is sweet, pretty and more natural smelling today for some reason. It might have to go back onto my wish list until I find a decent cheaper alternative or just give in and buy it!
Purplebird, hang in there, and as my father used to say, "Don't let the b-stards grind ya down."
Wordbird, what a delightful story and photo.
Happy birthday to Emily, the lucky recipient of cake for breakfast!
Today's frags: White Jasmine & Mint (SotD), Bal a Versailles (SotE)
Yesterday was crazy fragrance day. I was up in LA doing several trainings. Since I was "only" about 20 miles from Barney's NY and the Scent Bar, of course I had to make a "frolic and detour."
The Barney's SA was annoying--she stuck to me like glue, and she didn't want me to try Carnal Flower, saying she didn't like it. (Needless to say, I sprayed it anyways.)
I tried Chergui, Daim Blond, Carnal Flower, Tauer Rose Insense, Montale Aoud Damascus, and Amouage Jubilation XXV (liked the men's top notes better). Plus a couple other frags that I can't remember (but that's O.K., they didn't work on me).
It was a surfeit of great frags, so it was hard to concentrate on any one, but here are a few quick descriptions.
Daim Blond - I could barely smell it. Either I'm mostly anosmic to it, or it just was overcome by everything else.
Chergui - the stand out. Loved it except for when the animalic became HUGE on and off during the drydown. (And here I was thinking I might be anosmic to animalic notes!) I definitely want to try it again when I can focus on it alone.
Aoud Damascus - way too sticky-sweet and girly-pink rose. I almost had to scrub it.
Tauer Rose Insense - not much rose, lots of incense. I sprayed it on, and I suspect this may be a dabber. However, I think I prefer L'Air du Desert Marocain.
Carnal Flower - I'd like to try this again as well. Loved the camphorish top notes, but it actually seemed rather delicate and uncarnal the rest of the way, sort of "sinking" into my skin.
Jubilation XXV - by this time, I was so overwhelmed, all I could think of was, "Hmmmm, I think that smells good." Luckily, the woman working at Scent Bar gave me a sample.
For sale: JL Scherrer parfum (reduced price) and more!
