    Default SotM September 2008

Here we go with the SotM for September 2008 Basenotes Nation. The raw numbers for the month were slightly down from August’s record breakers but not by much. 4,974 posts in September down from 5,000. 1,666 different scents mentioned down from 1,673. 855 mentioned only once for an individuality index of 17.2% compared to 850 and 17.0% last month. If you add in the scents worn 2,3,or 4 times the individuality index rises to 45.4% down slightly from 46.8% in August. After all is said and done two very similar months numbers wise. It also shows a leveling off of what, until now. has been a consistent trend of ever larger numbers month-to-month.
The top 10 had a 50 % turnover with five holdovers and five new entries. This month has seen the rise of single posters who wear their signature scent almost every day and four of those scents are in the top 10 mainly on the strength of those wears. At the top for the second month in a row is Guerlain Vetiver. Habit Rouge, at #7, also joins Vetiver and makes Guerlain the only House with two entries. The runner up by a staggering 34 wears is Yves St. Laurent Rive Gauche pour Homme. The #3 scent is Creed Bois du Portugal which has made its cooler weather comeback complete after hardly being seen at all over the spring and summer. Number four is Dior Homme followed by Hermes Terre D’Hermes. Terre D’Hermes had a rough month as it fell out of the weekly top 10 for the first time at the end of the month and has seen its wears begin to trend down over the last month. Is this a sign the community is tiring of it? Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain makes the list at #6. Amouage Jubilation XXV sees its rise during September place it at #8. Jubilation XXV has really seen its wears take off this month through a combination of effects. One is a sale of a travel size of the scent for much less than a regular bottle. By pricing this one at a reasonable price point it penetrated the community to a higher degree. This is also getting quite a number of female wears, which is amusing because Jubilation 25 is supposed to be the women’s version but here in Basenotes Nation our women like Jubilation XXV better it seems. Caron Yatagan and Parfum D’Empire Ambre Russe complete the top 10.
Here now is your top 10 for September 2008
    1.) Guerlain Vetiver 89 wears (1.8%)
2.) Yves St. Laurent Rive Gauche pour Homme 55 wears (1.1%)
3.) Creed Bois du Portugal 47 wears (1.0%)
    4.) Dior Homme 40 wears (0.8%)
    5.) Hermes Terre D’Hermes 36 wears (0.7%)
    6.) Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain 32 wears (0.6%)
    7.) Guerlain Habit Rouge 31 wears (0.6%)
    8.) Amouage Jubilation XXV 24 wears (0.5%)
    8.) Caron Yatagan 24 wears (0.5%)
    10.) Parfum D’Empire Ambre Russe 23 wears (0.5%)

Just missing this month were Chanel Coco which missed by one wear. Four others missed by two wears Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur, Creed Green Irish Tweed, Chanel Egoiste, and Caron pour un Homme. Montale Red Vetyver was the highest placing new release this month.
    That’s it for September.
As always you keep wearing ‘em and I’ll keep counting ‘em
    Have a well-fragranced week.

Yatagan! In the show! Hooray! And BdP is definitely impressing me, too. I have to fight off the urge to wear it every chance I get. I expect it to be sticking around.

The flattening curve is interesting. Will colder weather change things for the better, or will we have a bear market on scents, too? A new mystery. As always, a joy. Thanks, SMM!

No. Somerville Metro Man is actually a computer, not a person.

Kind of like HAL, the computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

(whispering): Just don't tell him that we know he's a computer.

I've never even noticed that. If I ever want to spend another 6 hours of my life watching that movie, I'll be bringing something extra to the table.
