    Thanks.

I'm very fond of the funky futuristic designs of mid-twentieth century, so I've picked up a few vintage pieces along those lines. Here's my favorite watch, my 1966 Seiko Sea Lion:

I am a fan of vintage watches and like both the Gruen and the Seiko, smart mid-century styling and good works. I’m wearing a vintage Seiko today too, ladies’ model.

A couple of the indices look like little lightning rods because the crystal is beveled and optically crrates a split effect at that angle.

I’d happily wear that any day. One of the things I love about those vintage Seikos, besides the awesome design, is how easily they go dressy or casual.

Those are both such handsome watches!

I've been wanting a vintage wristwatch, and would be thrilled with either of those designs. Could either of you tell me how much I might expect to pay for one of those in working condition?

Also: I like the square backplate on Brooks' mens version. Is there a name for that design element?

    Thanks!

The best way I know of to determine pricing of a vintage watch is to research specific models one is interested in on the internet. That’s because there can be wide price differences even on the same watch depending on source, quality, materials, condition, etc. So many variables.

Good luck finding a nice watch, Cook.bot and, if you do, love to see it!

Depending on source and condition, $300 to $1,000usd. IMO their true value is in the $350-$500 range, with it being acceptable to pay $600-$700 for unique and premium examples. Anything more is essentially a seller being greedy. The Watch and Listen podcast has a good episode on vintage Seikos. And if you watch the podcast on YouTube, there’s a link in the description to an online source for vintage watches that is reputable and fair.

Looks amazing. Love the dial and hand set on this one. I have owned a few models from this era with similar, cushion-style cases having hard lines and greatly enjoyed them.
