Default Wood Coffee (Series 7: Sweet) by Comme des Garcons

Wood Coffee is a coffee / vetiver scent that is extremely easy to wear. I've been wearing it the last couple days thanks to a sample from tigrushka and I have to say, I'm smitten.

The coffee is warm, almost chocolate/carob in texture and dry. It does not smell bitter (like the fresh ground espresso of Cafe Noir by Ava Luxe) or frozen (like Angel Men Pure Coffee by Thierry Mugler) - but rather dusty and semi-sweet.

As the gourmand aspect of the scent settles on my skin, amazingly a prominent vetiver note rises out from under the sweet notes. Nutty, light - but definitely woody, masculine and solid.

This scent is officially discontinued, so I'm not sure how easy this is to source - but if you found any of the above coffee scents (or others, like New Haarlem by BN9) a little too much, and perhaps want a coffee scent in your wardrobe that could easily be worn in jeans-and-t-shirts as well as for an evening out, please try Wood Coffee.

Barneys usually carries the CDG lines. Call them up 1.888.222.7639.

As a coffee lover, this thread has sent a chill down my spine.

I will make sure to test it, and own it if I find it that good.

Color me intrigued. I'd dismissed this entire line from others' reviews of it being hyper-sweet and uninteresting... but this description interests me. Vetiver and coffee sounds like a fun combination.

I found some off BN people selling decants and partials... I think I may pull the trigger and check it out.

Although note that Jo Malone's 'Black Vetyver Cafe' is not very good

Totally agree. BVC has this odd hairspray note that ruins it for me. It's like a drop of chemicals has fallen in the coffeepot while it was brewing. Blech.

Wood Coffee is much more comfy, casual and much more 'natural' smelling coffee note. Plus the vetiver in WC is nutty, woody and outlasts the coffee nicely.

Nice review Mike. Its the only one from that line that I would consider purchasing. It does have that comfy, Sunday afternoon vibe going.

For those looking to purchase, call The Perfume House in Portland, Oregon. They had a bunch in stock when I was in last month. And they were still running that sale on the CdG synthetics line, so my credit card took a beating. I need to stop going in there.

This is good to know, Slim.... any idea what they charge? I picked up a bottle of Wood Coffee today on eBay. Someone was selling the entire line individually. One of the bottle - Nomad Tea, I think, went for almost $80.

I called and ordered it yesterday. (Thanks for the suggestion, Slim. Very nice people there.)
    I paid $88 + shipping.

I agree WoodCoffee is a good candidate.

Black Vetyver Cafe is wonderful but a bit too light,
New Haarlem is nice, but a bit too caramely,
Cafe Noir is accurate, but unbalanced and overbearing,

WoodCoffee has the right kind of coffee vibe going, and the wood balances it out in a simple fashion without drawing attention away from the coffee.

I should mix them all together and see what it smells like!
    Lately I've been wearing:
Windsor, Bois de Santal, Original Santal, Elixir, Douro, Endymion, Reflection, Arcus, Marwah
