My own unique custom blend from the Martine Micallef perfume bar.

It's rather sharp and dry with lavender in the beginning but dries down to a sandalwood dominated base with a subtle leathery note.

Versace Pour Homme for the second day in a row from a sample.

As with all frags that find their way on to my 'potential purchase list' - I like to wear them a few days in a row, both to better evaluate their progression, and also to see if and/or how quickly I grow bored or sick of them. So far this is passing the test of a fresh frag that is suitable for a mid-20 something guy like myself, that has some depth and elegance to it. The only other contender I've found is Stardust for men. I'd like to try Gucci PH II again, and really need to try the minty offerings by Cartier and Guerlain. Any other recommendations?

    Parfums de Nicolaï
    New York
    (1989)
    Patricia de Nicolaï

Top Notes: Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, Thyme
Middle Notes: Cloves, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Pimento
    Base Notes: Oakmoss, Vetiver, Amber
Very much in the classic mold, this is a winner. It is elegant, restrained but not diffident, and it has a quiet confidence and dignity about it that bespeaks its breeding. Patricia de Nicolaï is a grandaughter of Pierre Guerlain, brother of the famous Jacques; perhaps one can see in this that there may be some truth in the Guerlain family mystique. New York is a beauty, a structured composition with a clearly discernible development. It says sophistication and style, but in a timeless mode. I don't think this one can easily be forgotten. Its balance, tenacity, subtle development, and sillage all make it a classic.

When I woke up this morning, I could still smell Habit Rouge L'Extrait on my arm. It was very different from the normal Habit Rouge drydown that I know so well. I had huge problems finding a description. First of all it was less sweet. I think that what I smelled was more woody, more leathery (floral?) and more spicy than I normally smell from the Habit Rouge drydown.

Today, it's Eau de Shalimar - it's so edible, so readily likeable, like some delicious pastry. I love to walk around smelling like some piece of Guerlain pastry.

When I applied this I was eating a large bar of chocolate. So I got an extra chocolate (top) note that worked well with the blend.

House Brother with Mr. Guerlain in:

    Guerlain Derby

I've been waiting a while to try this one and what is nice is it isn't disappointing. Since this is the new formulation I was worried it wouldn't be so good. No worries as this is right up there with Knize Ten as an excellent leather scent on me. What is nice about Derby is there is a little more complexity in the top which is quite powdery but has a hint of mint to it as well. The transition from rose into leather as we move from heart to base is seamless and eye-opening. I will now be very interested to try the vintage formulation and see if I think it is better. This one is so good I'm hard pressed to believe the vintage can be that much better.
    Have a great day everyone.

After looking at a number of reviews and comments,
this is my best guess as to the note structure:

Top notes: Petit Grain, Bourbon Geranium
Middle notes: Neroli Bigarade, Rose, Tobacco, Frankincense
    Base notes: Cypress, Amber, Moss

Originally created for Winston Churchill, and a favorite of Humphrey Bogart, Taba-Rome makes it's debut in the United States just in time to end the 20th century. Taba-Rome is a very sensual, sophisticated and warm fragrance; the rich notes of tobacco leaves, green tea, ginger and bergamot make this Creed scent the first choice of the power elite.

Today I'm wearing my brand new bottle of Black Sea. I really don't understand why this doesn't get more love. It reminds me if nothing else. I see it as a master of contrast. Soapy yet warm, it lasts for ever and never becomes cloying. I don't if it my HG, so early in my journey but I am so happy to have it as a part of my collection.

P.S. I feel really stupid for asking this question, but how exactly do you add smileys to your comments?
