    Happy birthdays Ultranova and Prokroustis

Whoa I missed so much in the past few days. I wanted to say:
Happy belated birthdays Anamari and Darkdreams.
Congrats on taking the pledge Twolf!!! Sounds like a sweet afterparty!
Sakecat, I loved the story about Spike the cat! I want my own!
Lushsoup, your post yesterday made me giggle. I don't tend to get compliments from strangers either so when you do get one it is rather exciting.
Chaya, love the description of the lippy. Been wanting to find my own shade of red, maybe I'm not brave enough for whore-red though!

Phew, feeling a bit behind here! On the upside, I completed my second last exam today. This time tomorrow it'll be over Wore Gucci Envy, which got me compliments from my mother, sister and bf.

Chaya, in AA we say "God gives the heavy loads to the big boys" (to which my dearest H...who'd had his share...would reply "whooopee" accompanied by a feeble wave of the forefinger) Looks like you're one of the big boys. Healing energy flowing to Beantown....and thanx for your new avatar. I for one love to see your beautiful face.

    Happy Birthday all y'all...
Many thanks to LedByMyNose who provided today's scent...a sample of Tocca's Cleopatra.

Here are the notes: Sparkling Grapefruit, Lush Greens, Cassis Bud, White Jasmine, Peach Nectar, Tuberose, Patchouli, Golden Amber, Vanilla Musk

I've loved all the Tocca's I've tried...besides this one, Touch, Florence and Stella. This one too - on me the greens stand out, nicely underpinned with the jasmine, and the light ambery vanilla is a sweet lingerer (is that a word?) Uplifting for a chilly day.

Lian slow and easy until you feel better is a good prescription.
Chaya, if you were a boxer you'd look like Rocky with the number of recent hits. Just like Rocky I know you're going to make it to the end no matter what. Plus you'll smell better than Rocky

Trying something new instead of something discontinued today:

    Serge Lutens Serge Noir

This starts off really sweet on me before the incense and spice in the heart come to the fore front. Somewhere on the road to the base there is an accord that comes off very generic a woody mix that smells like so many others. For a scent that starts so imaginitively to end in such a pedestrian manner makes this a disappointment on me.

Lush Soup, your story yesterday had me lol this morning. I’ve been enjoying my sample of Jasmin Noir, too, and yes – you really do smell good! No need for concern.

I'm almost 100% again today. Felt like hell yesterday, but lots of sleep, tylenol, and Sinu-cleanse put me together again. Sleep is the real miracle cure. My fragrance today is Dior's Midnight Poison, from a sample. I'm really enjoying this one.

    Happy birthday(s)!!!

Am fighting a cold that has felled all three of my kids, and a bit worried about it because I have two singing performances this weekend. Boosting my immune system and my mood by mentally picturing Chaya jogging up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum, with a beautiful shawl tossed just-so over her muscleman t-shirt and shorts. The lipstick is perfect. Her men and Basenotes family are waiting at the top of the steps, with champagne and some rare Guerlain extrait...

For me today, Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory, a delicious, slightly metallic incense on a light floral and patchouli backdrop.

Such love, such support. As Tang would quote Mike Myers on SNL, "I'm getting all vaclempt; talk amongst yourselves."

I dreamed about Opium. I barely remember the dream, but the scent and the parfum bottle were a big part of it. I only have a sample, and have never been able to wear it due to insta-headaches, but for pre-shower/exercise I've got a drop or two on the back of my hand. I'll probably add a few more to test before my day is afoot, but that's my first entry of the day. (Sorry SMM for my confusing two posts to the SotD thread.)

Have as wonderful a day as possible all!

Eau d'Hadrien. I got this as a (self chosen) gift this summer, and was afraid that I'd made a mistake. No, it just turns out that for me, this is a _winter_ fragrance. I assume it's the cedar, but, still, weird. Or maybe it's not weird and I just misclassified it in the first place? (I realize that classifications are purely artificial anyway, but it certainly struck me as summery before.)

SotD: Hotel Costes Costes (thanks to a generous BNer!!!)

Notes: lavender, bay-tree, coriander, white pepper, rose, incense, woods and light musc (from luckyscent)

This one starts really peppery on me, but in a good way. Other pepper frags I've tried have been so "thin". This one is much more balanced, and as the fragrance wears on, the spicyness stays, and morphs. The drydown reminds me of a spiced-up Rive Gauche drydown, but I have no doubt a man could wear this frag.

Happy birthday to ultranova3 and Prokroustis--come back and see us, it has been a while!

For my SotE, I wanted to "dab" but ended up spilling my test samples:

Left hand: Serge Lutens Bois et Fruits

Starts with plums and raisins, dried sweet fruits with the Feminite du Bois base of cedar and honey. There is some violet in the mid notes, and quite a bit of spice. If I were to state it simply, it is FdB with fruits in the top notes.

Right hand: Serge Lutens Bois Oriental

Starts light and almost cake-like, again with the FdB base. The Guide says "gin and tonic", but I don't get that. To me, it seems more like the sweet candy from Douce Amere on the top, no violet that I can detect, and the honey and cedar base. It seems less spicy than FdB, but there are definitely some mild spices.
