Default Best Dirt Cheap Frags? (December 2008 Edition)

Perfume bargains can be found at just about any price point. Given the normal cost of a bottle of Amouage, $50 travel sizes sound like a great deal to folks so inclined.

But there are some fine fragrances that are, quite simply, dirt cheap.

And in this economy, with many of us having spent a small fortune in holiday gifts, my thoughts naturally turn to the possibility that there might be some great perfumes to nab for next to nothing.

Just to be clear what I'm talking about, I'm interested in fragrances that cost $15 or less for a full, non-miniature, bottle (let's say at least 1 fl. oz./30 ml).

Let me start the discussion with the following three:

Grey Flannel (available at my local Ross for $7.99/50 ml and $12.99/100 ml)
Pino Silvestre (widely available online for $9.99-13.99)
Bal a Versailles EdC (available on Amazon.com for $10.00/30 ml)

Any other serious scents out there for next to nothing?

(I've put the date in the title of this post because I suspect that at least some of the fragrances that will fall into this category would be final stocks of discontinued perfumes being dumped on the market unceremoniously. For instance, I recently bought Bogart's Witness for $15.99, though that puts it just out of the range of this discussion. As a result, this list might look very different even a few months from now.)

Look into the Adidas frags, Victory League of course, but Urban Spice and Team Force seem decent as well, though I haven't tried them. They are around $10 or less for 100 ml bottles. You might be able to find the Jacomo for Men/Jacomo Silver in a 100 ml tester for $15 or less, and that is very well done and long lasting, though sillage is low (compared to 80s power frags). And of course there are the $10 or less Samba frags. Heat, Nova, and Kiss Me (the men's ones) are my favorites. Sexy Man is a fruity/woody that I think won a FiFi award.

1776 Russian Leather by Elsha. The upfront cost is about $45 ($38 plus shipping) but that's for an 8 oz. bottle. Works out to $5.63 per ounce.

Pinaud has a great line of inexpensive fragrances. My favorites are Clubman, Clubman Special Reserve and Lilac Vegetal. All should be available in very large bottles for under $15
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

    Perry Ellis by Perry Ellis

Kind of like a Serge Lutens scent, in a 80's powerhouse vibe. $25 for a 5 oz bottle.

Not universally loved but I think Chaps is a well-composed frag, and can be gotten at around $10 US for 50ml.

I just bought some Murray & Lanman Florida Water for $3.99 for 7.5 oz (221 ml) at the grocery store. It's nice if one likes wearing ginger ale. Sillage is pretty much nil after the first hour, but it does have some staying power on my skin. It smells like ginger ale/ginger snaps. I like it, but I do like a scent that I'm wearing to project a little more than this one does.

I second the Chaps (original) recommendation - I bought mine for $9. YSL Rive Gauche PH approaches drug store prices if you search around a little - I've seen 75ml bottles for around $22 online. I got Rochas Man for $30/50ml at Perfumania. I saw Dior Fahrenheit at WalMart for $33/50ml, and you can get a liter of 4711 at many drug stores and grocery stores for under $20.

Carven Homme - a rich oriental with great personality and longevity

I second this. You can pick up a huge bottle of it for cheap at most drugstores, and it actually smells better than a lot of designer fragrances.

Carrera for Men is a fantastic "Clean" scent. I wore it the other day and got a lot of compliments on it. Long lasting with great sillage!

I got my 1 ounce bottle for $7.99 at Marshall's. Very glad that I did too (blind buy)!

    Givenchy : Pi : Gift Box/Spray 3.4 Oz & All Over Shampoo 6.7 : $4.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I bought all 4 of them they had)
