    Default SotD Wednesday 24 December

Good morning and Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate it today!

Yet another day in SL Arabie for me.

I have often worn Angel during Christmas holidays (I got it in 2002 and was so smitten with it then that I wore it exclusively six weeks in a row...) but this year just didn't feel like it, was more in the mood for smoke and spices and dusty dried fruit than chocolate and patchouli.

    Happy Holidays!

Another day in Dans Tes Bras - why fix it if it ain't broken? I am enjoying my extended interlude with this perfume.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." I won an andy tauer sample set so I will sample my way through it over the holiday, toay it might be vetiver dance. I'm very excited about une rose chypree but I'll save it for last.
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

I am wearing my new gift from bbBD:

    Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955)

This is just amazing class in a bottle. From the citrus top to the cardamom in the heart to the mixture of wood, vetiver and oakmoss in the base. This is a shining example of a chypre that all colognossieurs should get to try once in their life.

And now with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore
A re-worked version of 'Twas The Night Beofre Christmas

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and all through Basenotes
Not an atomizer was spraying not even a Chanel
The stockings were hung by the wardrobe with care
In hopes that Saint Grant soon would be there

The ladies were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Jicky danced in their head
And mama in her Dior and I in my Hermes
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer

With a little old webmaster, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Grant.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Derby! now, Diorella now, Erolfa and Vetiver!
On, Coco! On, Chergui!, on Opium and Angel!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Scents, and St Grant too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Grant came with a bound.

He was dressed all in Armani, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all Designer with lapels and silk.
A bundle of Scents he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a perfumer, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the point of his chin was as smooth as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a kind face and a six-pack belly,
That stood still when he laughed, not like a bowlful of jelly!

He was ripped and suave, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Yesterday I was given a sample of an EDT called "Armeniaca Vulgaris", made by an Italian company, Floribus Exvinis (no idea!). It was given to me in a place where they sell only niche perfumes, and it's supposed to be good stuff. It's actually sickening. I don't know how I'm going to wash this sweet-fruity juice off. I felt I had to warn you all. Keep off it!

    Notes (I should've known):
Coconut, orange, almond, apricot, peach, bergamot
    Rose, lily, magnolia
White musk, sweet woods, vanilla, acacia honey, hints of cream

I would also add there's some kind of note that feels like you're inhaling Vics Vaporub.

We stopped "doing" holidays (except Halloween candy) years ago and enjoy our simple ways. I wish you folks good health and good times every day of the year. I know emotional health has been strained for some of you and your families, and I wish you peace. I hope those who've been MIA lately, dearest to me being Musse and Twolf, check in to see these words to learn: You are in my heart.

Looking forward to sampling the two "meaty" Histoires de Parfums selections today: Noir Patchouli and Marquis de Sade.

Apparently, mtgprox05 and I are Crappy Morning Twins today. I just started getting a cold too, just in time for Christmas. And one of my cars wouldn't start this morning. I jump-started it with the other car and drove it to the dealer. Apparently I'm not driving it enough for the alternator to keep it charged. So the dealer put a new battery in it (under warranty, fortunately) and told me to "go and sin no more."

Indult Manakara is my SotA and I am LOVING this. The sweet lychee and wood and rose. It's just dreamy and for some reason smells like a Christmas scent. Must investigate further...more sniffing....!!

Citron mailed the invitations." Taolady, OMG, I clearly missed something. Hope everyone ends up O.K. on your end.

Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and wishes of calm enjoyment to all, regardless.

Still not sure what to wear this evening to a party. Part of me wants to wear something offputting (Miel de Bois? ) because I don't want to go, but I'll probably play nice for DH's sake. I guess it will be Chergui, because it's so rich and soothing.

    Bonnes vacances, all!

Sounds wonderful Quarry. We give small gifts now among family and friends although granddaughter does get a couple of extra presents! I've spent over two hours tonight hand decorating a cardboard box for the little one's presents and it only took five minutes to buy the gift 'stuff ' inside it! I do this for her every year now so it has become a sort of tradition. I wish everyone a peaceful day tomorrow whatever you do.

Scent today was Dolce Vita, chosen for its warmth and wonderful name. Couldn't resist testing Samsara and was VERY smitten. Am I right in thinking it shares similarities with Coco? Softer, more approachable and therefore ultimately more wearable for me than Coco.

Aramis as SotE. I sniffed a spritz of Gres Cabochard right after putting on the Aramis. Kissing cousins..

SotE will be CHERGUI, from my little sample. Still trying to decide if it's FBW for me. Probably.
