    Default Scent identification

I haven't posted for some time because of an accident involving a sample:

I ordered several samples from one of the sources on the Internet and loved one of them totally. I decided to order it based on the name on the sticker but the perfume I received was very different. I sent the sample back so the seller could identify it but no luck.
I got the sample back from the seller and have no idea what it is.

There's a high probability it is by Guerlain, it's what I precieve as a classic scent so I assume was made no later than the 90's but possibly even before the 70's. It definitely has musk and I don't detect any citrus.
The graphic image I get from the scent is of a cherry dipped in musk - fruity sweet, coherent and deep. There might be some resemblance to the scent of blood too.
Longevity is impressive on my skin at more than 6 hours with short sillage.

This scent can be worn by both female and male IMO.

I have less than 0.2 ml and after ordering different Guerlain samples to try match it, I got nowhere.
I'm pretty sure it's not an obscure perfume and anyone who used it should easily identify it. I tried to check with two ladies at a major perfume store but they didn't recognize it...

How can I find the name of this perfume? Is there anyone out there who could accept the sample (no point sending it back) and either identify it or identify some of its ingredients so I could order samples matching it?

I'd be glad to pay for the service.

If it's by Guerlain and you definitely smell dark cherries, it could very well be La Petite Robe Noire. But that is a recent scent though.

The basenotes directory doesn't list cherry as a note but the reviews do.

La Petite Robe Noire: according to the described notes, it can't be it. There's no trace of Licorice, vanila, smoke or lemon in this scent.

Maybe a hint can't be found in the fact that the overall scent is maintained mostly intact from begining to end (6 hours later and more). I think this should tell that the number of ingredients is low, I'd guess no more than 7.

I suggest contacting whomever is your most trusted reviewer on Basenotes and sending it to that person.

Agreed. Between the note-hounds and Guerlain specialists, there are bound to be several people who could identify it non-destructively. You might have to run it by more than one person, particularly if it has undergone minor change. Good luck!

What was the name on the sticker? It might give us a place to start.

    Thanks all for you comments.

The problem is there's only enough perfume in this sample for one person - one time. I don't even dare smell it again - it's that bad (the quantity, not the smell). Luckily, this perfume is quite strong so I still have hope that if I send it by the end of the week, identification will still be possible.

There's no sticker and the sticker that was on this sample, was wrongly placed. The seller couldn't even be sure it's by Guerlain which is what I ordered - quite a frustration.

Are there two reviewers who happened to be married or live together? that would surely increase my chance.

You said in the first post that "I decided to order it based on the name on the sticker." It can't both have a sticker and not have a sticker.

Did you order other samples at the same time? If so, my guess is that two sample vials got mislabeled and the answer to your problem is right in front of you.

You need to give us more to go on that a rather vague description of the smell itself; what samples did you order, what color is the juice?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. My first order was for a list of samples, some by Guerlain. The one I liked had a sticker with the name “Chamade pour homme” by Guerlain. Based on this sample, I ordered two 8ml samples which turned out to be different from the original sample. After sending the original sample + one of the 8ml samples to the seller, in hope to find the correct name, the seller returned me this sample without any sticker or idea what it is.

The original sample doesn't smell like any other sample I have tried (around 40 from different brands). Again, it may or may not be by Guerlain but I suspect, based on the overall quality that it is.

The color of the sample is slightly yellowish/pinkish.

I already researched the other samples by notes and it seems unlikely that it's a case of sticker misplacement since the seller also tried to find a bottle with the same scent based on my orders.
