    Default driest

First Happy New Year to all of you , best of luck, health, love and new fragrances.

I am looking for the driest fragrance. Dusty, dried soil.
Strong rain for short time in a very hot place, water evaporates, the soil dries and cracks, there is that dried distinct smell in the air. Anything similar to that ???

Here are some very dry frags that come to mind with your description-

Tigerflag Natural Perfumery sells an oil based fragrance called Mitti Attar. The name translated means "dried earth" and the intent was to create a fragrance that smells like the dried earth after rain. It smells to me like it is a combination of very dry vetiver (Rhus Khus), cedar and sandalwood. It smells like what you are describing.

Borneo 1834 by Serge Lutens is extremely dry patchouli and dark chocolate - very dry.

There are other very dry scents from the niche world that I think smell like this too. Let Me Play the Lion from Les Nez has an extremely dry dirt and dessert woods scent that is dry with a slight green edge to it. Also similar to this is Miller Harris En Sens de Bois which is an extremely dry and smokey incense.

For dry earth after a rain I think of Lorenso Villoresi Vetiver. Very dry roots and earth scent. Encre Noir smells like this too but leans more to a dry earth and ink note.

Christopher Brosius makes several very dry scents in his CB I Hate Perfume line that normally smell just like their names imply. The one I have that is very dry is called Black March. Burning Leaves smells like burning leaves. He also created Dirt for Demeter Fragrance library that smells like dirt - go figure. Also Thunderstorm is an after the rain dry air scent that is very dry.

Attar Mitti IS the traditional indian product of codistillation of baked clay on sandalwood oil layer. Very popular in Gang river territory (Kannauj, etc.)
While the first minutes are dry enough, then I would not insist on sandalwood oil as the driest scent... for me it`s milky oily woody scent.

I know very few else will comment on Original Aoud as few have tried it (Sloan, where are you?) but seriously, this is the scent of dry earth that has been baking in the sun for centuries.
It is far drier than Yatagan, and even quite a bit drier than Let Me Play the Lion, which is fairly dry.

It almost has a tar like undertone at times though, which some find off-putting. It's not that pronounced on me.

Just taking a short break but I'll throw in a comment about Original Aoud. It's desert wind in a bottle. Original Aoud is an extremely arid scent that reminds me of ancient wood and hot sand. Although linear, it's great for layering with other scents to add an oud accord.

One of the best dry, scorched earth accords can be found in Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Route du Vétiver,

Personally, I've not smelled anything drier than Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain.

    Also very dry:
    L'Artisan Parfumeur - Dzongkha

^Yes, several of the L'Artisan woods are good and dry top to bottom.
Dzongka and possibly Timbuktu, I can't recall.

One I would recommend, although not dry at all in the topnotes, is library dusty type dry on the drydown:
    Tabarome Millesime.
ALthough you must be patient as all that wet ginger takes some time on some skin.
But the drydown is very parched.
Another which has a citrus/aromatic top with a similar dusty parched drydown is Colonia Intensa.

Also, Bel Ami, while not excessively dry, is moderately dry from top to bottom.
Try Aramis Tuscany as well, the topnotes don't take long to give way to a wonderfully dry base.

    I love dry scents!

my driest scent in the wardrobe would be Encre Noire. Initially, the ink note makes it seem damp or wet, but its not the least sweet or fruity. About half an hour later, it smells like vetiver leaves yellowing like fields of hay.

the opening of :L'air du Desert Marocain is very dry, however, it ends up sort of sweet and ambery after an hour - but not the least fruity or floral.
