    Default Newbie Questions

Hey folks, this is my first post on this forum. I am really enjoying the basenotes website altogether. I think I may be developing a new habit. It seems that I really enjoy smelling and finding new fragrances. Within the last six months or so, I have purchased 13 bottles of fragrance. I have given a few away to friends and family, mostly the ones that didn't agree with me (Lucky You, R.S.V.P., Eternity). After getting hosed at the fragrance counter at my local Younkers, I have turned to internet purchases. Mostly from Scentiments. Is there a better website that I don't kow about for buying fragrance? Also, is there a site that describes the individual notes of a scent. I have gone through the reference area of basenotes, but I still am lacking information on the description of individual scents...such as bergamot. How do I figure out how burgamot smells? Anywho, I am refraining from reviewing anything until I develop something of a pallete.

    So far, my collection includes:

    Allesandro dell acqua
    Burberry London
    Burberry Brit
    Bvlgari Black
    Bvlgari por homme soir
    Eternity
    John Varvatos
    Lucky number 6
    Narsisco Rodriguez for him
    RSVP
    Curve Soul for men

Take Brit for instance, that initial blast of smell, what is that? It's like a bright but mellow powdery almost aqua smell. I say almost aqua because if I smell the Brit, then spray aqua on myself, the aqua then reminds me of Brit. Its strange.

So, this is the rookie dilema I find myself in.

    Cheers!

Hi there & welcome to the wonderful world of posting!
    Here's a couple of tips.
To get a sense of bergamot, buy some good Earl Grey tea. Bergamot is the main flavoring in that.
To help understand some other fragrance notes, go to a health food store. Many will have a sample display of essential oils. You can thus smell vetiver, clary sage, etc. in a concentrated form.
Keep on noting fragrance notes (many are listed in the BN entry for the scent) and make notes of the various fragrances you try.
    Cheers,

I think Scentiments is a good choice. The Creed Millesime Imperial
I bought there years ago did indeed seem authentic.
Good prices too, though perhaps not as good of a deal on Creed now as earlier.

Another place I like for mainstream fragrances is Imagination Perfumery.
First class service and you can call them and get a pleasant person on the
other end of the line. Based in Florida.

Finally, if you are looking for specialty stuff such as Parfums de Nicolai (highly recommended stuff)
and the like, beautyhabit.com is the place to go. Not discounted prices,
but good stock, very trustworthy store. Quick shipping.

There are other good places too, but these are high on my list.
