Thread: REPULSIVE: Rive Gauche +/- Intense vs M7??

  1. #1

Default REPULSIVE: Rive Gauche +/- Intense vs M7??

My first poll simply didn't cut it. 50% of you loved M7, 50% of you loved Rive Gauche.

    This is not helpful.

So I am phrasing the question another way:

Some you claim that M7 is repulsive to either you or to women around you.

Some of you also claim the same of Rive Gauche or Rive Gauche Intense.

Which is "safer"? Which of the two has the highest probability of attracting the greatest number of under-30 women on any given day? Rive Gauche or M7??

Thanks again, fellas. This whole website has been a trip.

lol great post. I doubt you'll get many poll results though! Both fragrances are "weird" in their own way. At their worst, M7 smells like medicine and Rive Gauche smells like overpowering old man cologne. At their best, M7 is sensual, warm and sexy, while Rive Gauche is sophisticated and clean (ie. barbershop style).

Edit: I just voted for the sake of the post, even though I like both

There is nothing weir about Rive Gauche, it is a great fragrance that cannot offend anyone.
M7 is a tricky pony though, medicinal and annoying. Not bad , I have it , but I understand that if you over apply it can get intrusive and distasteful

More than 1 spray of M7 is entering dangerous territory. That said, 1 spray is amazing. Go for the M7!

I love both. I've always thought Rive Gauche was sexier though, more 'manly'. It certainly makes me much more confident if I wear it.

The only YSL I'd touch for hot, humid summers is Live Jazz. You might be able to pull off Rive Gauche. I sure can't though. Come to think of it, M7 Fresh could also work as a summer scent. But standard M7 is right out!

EDIT2: To the OP, if you're looking for something "safe" with the same qualities, please consider M7 Fresh. It's very wearable and clean, but still has the M7 feel, especially in the drydown.

I think it would have been better if the poll were structured like the question asked in the post, i.e., Which is "safer"? Which of the two has the highest probability of attracting the greatest number of under-30 women on any given day? Rive Gauche or M7??]

I don't really know or care which one women would like more. Probably a toss up or just depends on local weather and culture...

I like RIve Gauche a bit more. Actually, I'd like it a lot more if it wasn't for the weird topnotes. The drydown is good, though.

Yes, as is M7 if you don't over apply.

These two fragrances work especially well on summer evenings spent outdoors. (Outdoor dining, park concerts, etc.)

M7. Rive Gauche really does smell "old" in a very late-70's/early-80's way. M7 smells strange, but at least not old, and it is sweeter and warmer. I'd personally pick neither and go M7 Fresh, even though it's not as fresh and clean as some claim. Fruit loops is less than 1% of it's overall smell. It's not fresh in a generic aquatic way either. M7 Fresh I actually find to share notes with Santal Noble, of all things.

    Done. Thanks for the tip.

Every time I've ever worn M7, it seemed like nobody around me cared for it. Even with light application, I got a few negative comments and some nasty sniffle noises. I like M7--it's interesting in some ways, but kind of difficult.

Rive Gauche PH on the other hand (both regular and Intense) have had the opposite effect. Compliments galore and it seems like people around me enjoy it. Women of all ages compliment me on Rive Gauche PH. It's also easy to wear.

    Rive Gauche PH easily.

Even if most of the women I know would clearly prefer M7, I would still choose Rive Gauche.

Rive Gauche PH is one of the most replulsive frags Ive ever had the displeasure of smelling , Its like Brut with a slightly higher price tag

I think it would have been more helpful to have a third option.

    It think they both suck.

M7 is nice after about three hours once that vile Oudh note has faded but even then it's still a clumsy scent as it dries down. Women never liked it on me. I couldn't live with it and sold it on Ebay.

Rive Gauche pour homme is just horrible. It's nice for about ten seconds in the opening, then becomes an unpleasant powdery mush.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Rive Gauche , in my opinion, has taken the baber shop to a new modern and elegant level. Manly? yes, rude? nop , old? nop .
M7 is more difficult, for warm weather, stronger.

Of a fourth option - they're both totally fine fragrances.

As people mentioned, you have to go easy on the M7. Rive Gauche gives you a lot of options (regular, light, intense). I own the regular and light versions, with the light being more appropriate for work. I've been meaning to find myself a sample of intense to see if it's worth adding to the shelf.

I was not fond of either but was less fond of M7. RG does nothing for me but it was the lesser of two evils.

I've tried hard to like RG, but I just can't (why did I buy that bottle ;-)

M7 is nice (just a bit of a stretch for many people I will guess). The sweetness does get a bit cloying late in the drydown for me though.
