Thumbs up Re: SotD Monday 5 January 2009

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Le Maroc Pour Elle, I catch a bit of incense but enough to turn me off this parfume. I just hope the drydown is as good as I remember it

I stopped the montale testing madness for a day because everything started to smell like a montale perfume yesterday. When le Maroc wears off I might try 1 or 2 montales again.
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Maybe you must indeed experience a scent over a longer period to appreciate every aspect of beauty in it.

Chanel no. 5 a few drops of parfum layered with the edt
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." Fifi Chachnil today.

Really digging the tobacco-laced notes in this scent. Super-duper sexy.

Ayala Moriel Moon Breath last night - which, to my wonky nose, registered as "Orange Blossom" last night. Weird. It's usually a peppery white floral with a resinous undertone. One of the longer lasting scents in her line - I could still smell it the next morning.

Waking up to an icy wonderland at Stately Somerville Manor, beautiful to look at, treacherous to walk on.
For this first day back to work after two weeks of leisure I am scent twins with Guerlain-lover and House Brother with rtamara41 in:

    Chanel Coromandel

One thing I can say about all of the Chanel exclusifs I've worn so far is they don't feel the same to me. Coromandel starts off with a patchouli and spice top. Now this is not the patchouli of the Summer of Love this is the patchouli of dried, powdered root.Dry and desiccated and light, mixed with the spiciness this is an unusually light start for a ptachouli-forward fragrance. The patchouli remains throughout the development as in the heart I get some florals beofre the chocolate accord makes itself known. As before, this is the chocolate of cocoa powder dusty and rich. The base is amber and musk and is the most conventional part of this scent on me. Thankfully what has gone before was unconventional enough that I forgive it. How this is not marketed as unisex is quite beyond me.

Morning, my lovelies. Running in and out at high speed today!
Jil Sander Sun to celebrate the spring-like sun although it's still freezing cold. Do you get where sometimes a scent is so well-matched to a day you almost get all teary-eyed when smelling it? Today is that day. Must wear more often.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

Vetyver Lanvin (new) as SotD. Cool (for us) morning @ around 60 F. Colder wave coming in a few days so the fireplace is stacked and ready to go. We don't get many opportunities to do that.

Still dealing with the cold from hell, trying to smell things with minimal success in between nose blowings and cups of tea. Bleh!

Trying two by Parfumerie Generale -- Private Collection: Bois de Copaiba & L'eau Guerriere.

The Bois de Copaiba starts out with a surprising amount of leather, even though that's not listed among the notes (though maybe that's all I can smell, or my cold is making it up) before warming up to some truly lovely woods. L'eau Guerriere is light, transparent and airy without being boring in any way; it smells how I'd imagine a combination of overcast sky and gunmetal to me (though I've never actually smelled a gun ). I think they are both fantastic in very different ways.

Private Collection: Bois de Copaiba notes: Crystallized orange pulp, red ginger, amaretto, copahu balm, mahogany wood, myrrh, sandalwood.

L'eau Guerriere notes: Cinchona bark, sky aldehydes, olibanum, aloe wood, musk.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson
