Still on a tough broad streak wearing Jicky today. It feels a little bit more crisp and greener than Bandit which makes it more uplifting and Bandit is a bit darker and a lot of leather mixed in.

I think all these strong girls help in a little way to give me a boost in the morning to get up and go out.
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Belated Happy Birthday Leesee hope it was an awesome day and you have some new additions to your scent palette.
ScentSis glad to hear you're back and had a great time. I have indeed vanquished the evil viral invaders and sent them packing.
ScentMother needs to send her viral invaders on an extended vacation so she can enjoy her weekend in NYC with her youngest.
Here like on most of the East Coast it feels like we're in the deep freeze with a single digit temp staring at me from our porch thermometer.

Today I am in a sample most generously given to me by the very lovely Chaya:

    Bois 1920 Real Patchouly

Patchouli is one of those notes that is difficult to work with, I think. It is easy to use it and come off smelling like every head shop in existence. It is a more difficult trick to get past that association and through a combination of other notes bring out a different facet to patchouli. In Real Patchouly, Enzo Galardi does this in a very slow moving and delightful way. This is a symphony of patchouli in three movements. From the top the head shop smell of patchouli is present along with a tart lemon which keeps it familiar and maybe even commonplace or boring. This is a patchouli you've seen before, many times. Then the second movement begins and while the patchouli is still the dominant figure vanilla matches it and now accentuates the sweeter aspects of patchouli; muting but not obliterating the more herbal essence one usually associates with patchouli. After an extended second movement we move into the final movement and this comes on very slowly as you notice the herbal character of the patchouli beginning to make a return but now it has brough a partner with it, amber. The effect of the amber is to bring those herbal notes to the foreground while muting the sweeter aspects thus flipping the experience of the whole from an hour or so ago. Real Patchouly is a very slowly evolving scent as it took almost two hours for all of this to happen. This is no fast-food scent here. This scent shows what a perfumer can do with one predominant note that lasts throughout but by pairing it with the right dance partners create lovely olfactory synergies that allow you to really appreciate the central note.
    Have a Terrific Thursday everyone.

Hello all you gorgeous-smelling ones, and a special welcome to Zingss!

Big hugs to all who need 'em. I promise not to breathe on you when I hug you.

Happy belated birthday, Leesee! Hope it was a wonderful day, and that you continue celebrating all year.

The cold from hell is making a slow retreat, though is stubbornly hanging in there just enough to require me to continue carrying my own large box of tissues to every meeting I attend (and it's not easy to find a tissue box that goes with the various work outfits, let me tell you). I do make a fetching picture, though, in my business suit, great boots, and... box o' tissues. Very chic.

Deep freeze has come to New England, and I have decided to be contrarian again and smell like summer vacation in Montale Sandflowers.

    Sandflowers notes:
Sea notes, juniper berries, sandalwood and oakmoss.

I really do smell like I'm on a beach where there are wonderful beach roses and other hardy blooms lining the high end of the dunes.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson

Zingss - so with you! And that wind!!!! Brrrrrrr.......

Makes me already miss the tropics.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night, inspired by the sudden Luctor et Emergo conversation (both here and on a couple blogs), I decided to wear Luctor et Emergo as my SotE.

This is one of those scents that I can't predict how it is going to act from wearing to wearing. This time around - a brief top note of play doh gives way to cherry almond bread baked in an incensed room. Quite lovely. Sometimes, the play doh dominates. Sometimes, it's more nutty. Sometimes, more fruity. Sometimes, it does its best Kenzo Amour imitation. A scent I can admire for its chamelion-like abilities. But one I also approach with caution, for fear that it will be in a bad mood.
    ---------------------------------------------
Today - another goodie from BlackCat (come out, come out wherever you are!).

    Parfumerie Generale - Bois Blond.

    Woods, herbs and pickles

The pickle note is really the cedar coming out. It's not offensive, but it is disconcerting.

Thankfully, within an hour it turns into a lovely balsamic woody scent with a healthy lashing of black pepper and herbs. Very close wearing.

    ----------------------------------------------

ScentBro - glad you have vanquished the viral invaders.

ScentMom - Do you need me to ship you hot bourbon, lemon and honey! That crud seems to be lingering. I worry.

Chaya and Lian - big hugs. Actually - maybe I should send you hot bourbon, lemon and honey too. It may not actually cure anything, but you won't notice quite so much.

Holy Cow, Tang! Do you live in Alaska? That is mighty cold.

Here the thermometer has finally made a leap above freezing for the first time in weeks. The lying snow is starting to look a touch slushy. It's a shame, because I love the really cold weather, like Chaya.

Musse! We've been missing you honey! Did you have good holidays? Seems like a million years ago now, but Happy New Year!

And Happy Birthday for yesterday, Leesee. Hope you had a lovely day.

Thanks for the hugs and positive energy, it helps. A lot.

Today I'm in Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin - actually, very very wearable for a woman. I urge you to try it.

Love and hugs to all and plenty of cough drops to those who need them. (I like the idea of hot bourbon with your honey and lemon. That's got to get you well faster than the straight stuff!)

Ava Luxe Opoponax Intense today. I really want a bottle - my sample is gone now.
By the by, I've just posted a thread over on the sale forum asking if any European Basenoters would be interested in a joint Ava Luxe order, to keep down shipping costs. Do let me know! I'm going to see if it's feasible.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

    (moonviewing - autumn)

Nope, the Annayaké madness isn't over yet
Right On Lady in Black! Isn't Annayake a great line? If it weren't for this cold I have I'd join you in Tsukimi!
That said, the sniffer is on low, so I'm wearing Mitsouko EdP to cut through the fog of congestion, decongestants, analgesics etc... It's working, though I'm sure I'm suffocating everyone around me! Oh well!

I swear I DO live in the northern hemisphere, even though today it will be sunny and 75 to 80F

    SotD is Dior Homme.

Enjoy your day, or evening, or whatever part of today everyone's having...

Dear ScentDaughter, not to worry! I do believe I'm on the road to recovery, and also have a (truly kickass) recipe for hot Irish whiskey that is awash in booze, hot water, lemon, sugar and cloves. Even have a bottle of Jameson's in the liquor cabinet. Happy to share with Chaya and Lian (and others!) as needed. Sakecat's definitely right about hot toddies making you not care much even if they don't cure anything.

Well, "scent whore" that I appear to be becoming (and nice to know that I am in such auspicious company), I am revelling in Cuir de Lancome today, courtesy of a generous Basenoter I will call "Wrappings", who assuredly has an alternative career waiting in mail order fulfilment. The sample set had been put together with Clinique-al precision, and certainly gave me a "Happy Heart".

Now, this here Cuir smells gorgeous on me, quite possibly because it contains some of my favourite notes: bergamot, jasmine, ylang-ylang and iris, and I am not at all averse to hawthorn (Chanel Beige!) or patchouli (L'Ombre Fauve!). Turns out I am also having no issues whatsoever with birch or styrax, about which I did initially have grave reservations. I may just go back to T K Maxx and have another rummage in their thoroughly dishevelled post-sales fixture...that bargain bottle of Cuir may still be there somewhere under all the Chopards! Along with my lost scarf, even...

Over on the other hand I am testing Armani White, and enjoying it too in a completely different way. It reminds me of Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline, but with a citrussy and spicy kick to it. Very zen-like. If I was the sort who could wear a white trouser suit, this would be just the ticket. It will chill me out before I brave Cabochard at some point...

Armani White Perfume was first released in the Summer of 2001 and features a soft, woody fragrance with a touch of bergamot.

The top notes consist of green fig, blackcurrant leaf, slightly spicy white wood, ginger and white musk.

Oh, lovely fire! Thank you, Quarry!!

As is life, some are coming and some are going... I cleared out most of my scents on Ebay and have simplified everything. Due to finances I won't be purchasing for a while and need to focus elsewhere, but I'll be back from time to time!

Wearing one of my favorites today, Le Couvent des Minimes Lemon Verbena, about as simple as it gets and suits my mood perfectly, I might layer it with some roses or jasmine later.

It's a New Year, so even though many things have sucked recently, I remain optimistic and motivated. Stay warm and safe and happy and healthy! See you around...

If anyone here would like to share their predictions on what the next big perfume trends are (or if you have any knowledge of best selling men's and women's fragrances in your locality), please send me a PM. (Providing you have the time or desire to of course ).

On my way out of our Carnaby Street office I walked through Liberty's perfumery (again) and spritzed Daim Blond. I wanted to give it another wear... it has been on my wish list for a fair amount of time now, but I won't be buying any more fragrances this month, so I will have to satisfy my craving by some other means.

What's amusing me about it today is that I've suddenly realised what's been bugging me (in the nicest possible way) about the dry-down. I love the dry-down, but there was something underneath that peachy suede I knew I recognised.

Well, it finally hit me today:
