Default which ingredients give you the best sillage?

is there a particular ingredient? like neroli? sandalwood? patchouli? or anything else

that is known to give better sillage?

    I was just curious?

i am not asking what colognes give better sillage but sort of asking why they give better sillage? Is it how they made? or the ingredients used? I am assuming the ingredients that is used in them? is it beucase they are synthetic vs natural?

is there a science behind giving better sillage?

Scents that have vetiver or cedar seem to last forever on me and sillage is awesome.

vetiver and patchouli seem to give a wonderful sillage, along with labdanum and opoponax. They all seem to be quite tenacious.

Not necessarily. Monsieur Carven has a good dose of jasmine in it, and as I see it that's why it has huge sillage.

On the other hand, you are right about the fact that if a fragrance has jasmine in it, the chances are that it will be for ladies.

Strictly from my own experience and on my skin, leathery, musky, woody (especially cedar and sandalwood), spicy and vetiver notes have the best sillage.

Vanilla is a real winner, especially in the woody/orientals. Sandalwood is another. Vetiver and patchouli seem to give it all a real boost and depth as well.

    Think Egoiste. Think Opium PH.

I think aoud is for sillage what patchouli is for longevity. A few weeks ago I wore Royal Aoud at club. My first full wearing. I kept smelling it on myself and then, about two hours into the wearing, it started radiating with a new found power, as if I had reapplied it. I swear i could smell it the entire night. without having to sniff my wrists I mean! When was the last time this happened to you?
