Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

Lui is a very comforting woody scent, with bits of fresh, green and floral. On me, it goes through a bit of a rough patch between the top and middle notes, but it recovers very quickly, and the rest of the ride is very pleasant. I think this can be a dress-up scent, but I wouldn't exclude it from casual attire days. Maybe not for torn jeans... I don't know what buffalo grass is, but it reminds me of something I first knew as sweet grass. I think it contributes that bit of sweetness I find in this fragrance.

Planning on getting over the birthday hangover with a love tap from Orson.
Seems like a Tuesday scent, at least on one as balmy (2° F) as this one.
Besides, a little lavender never hurt anyone, mmm?

The very last of my sample of MPG's Sanguine Muskissime.
I was going to order a bottle tomorrow, but today this scent turned on me and the musk note is overpowering and rather disgusting. Guess that saves me some money.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. First time in ages - it for some reason irritates my nose in the morning. Today left home later, so absolutely had to wear it.

Back to the grind today. Tom Ford Noir de Noir for me.
I am wearing a sample given to me by the ever lovely chayaruchama:
Histoire de Parfums 1740 Marquis de Sade
There are some perfumes that are going to have a hard time living up to their name. Any scent named after the most publicized libertine of all time is going to have to be a combination of the sensual and the novel. In this case I think Histoire de Parfums did a pretty good job. The fragrance starts with a bergamot and light leather beginning. It is a quite lovely mix harkening to that which the Marquis is most known for. Continuing that theme the leather deepens into the heart but adds some heat in the form of spices cumin and cardamom. All of this is enhanced with an earthy patchouli. Here is the sensual heat that the name promises. It is as we move into the base that the novel makes its appearance with a candied fruit note that makes for a shift in tone. It doesn't last long before the patchouli ushers in a mix of wood and vanilla in the base with the leather note still present. This is a lush scent which in my opinion lives up to its name.
Have a Terrific Tuesday everyone.

Happy, happy birthday, Jillsy!!!!
Speaking of birthdays, I am back with Dear Daughter from her Great 10th Birthday Extravaganza - which was an enormous success, even though the bus experience was a disaster in both directions. I am concentrating on the good parts, which FAR outweighed the incompetence of Greyhound/Peter Pan Buslines. Full report (minus the bus craziness) at the link above.
Over the weekend, I kept Somerville Metro Man in mind (can't neglect the ScentSon, even while on adventures with the "real" kids ), and tested Isabela Capeto Perfume and Montale Amber and Spices.
The Isabela Capeto was a big disappointment to me... All the notes and reviews sounded wonderful, but I found there was a heavy and unlisted cumin (?) note in there that just did NOT sit well with me. I kept hoping that the scent would pull a "Kingdom" -- dry down to something completely wild and gorgeous. Nope. Just shifted a bit, then left me flat. Ah, well. I bet it smells great on others.
Isabela Capeto notes: Cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, osmanthus, Brazilian marshland lily, black plum, opoponax, black and pink pepper, cinnamon and cardamom.
The Amber and Spices was much more my speed. Brand new so with no notes listed, I definitely get amber, vanilla and what I think of as the classic Montale rose-and-light-aoud base. On first sniff, a woody amber that unexpectedly will absolutely sing in warm weather.
For today, I'm doing a little compare and contrast with Parfumerie Generale: Querrelle and L'Ombre Fauve. Love them both, although they are very, very different. The Querelle is sharp, dark green and spicy. Gorgeously unisex, and works better on my skin than Yatagan. I especially like the caraway element in there. L'Ombre Fauve is an easy sell for me.. Sweet woods, spice and incense on a classic patchouli base. Beautifully done, though not ground-breaking. If I didn't already have so many well done fragrances along these lines, it would definitely go on my wish list. Querelle, however, is now being added.
Querelle notes: Citrus, Iranian black caraway, myrrh, cinnamon, Haitian vetiver, incense, oakmoss, ambergris.
L'Ombre Fauve notes: Amber, musk, woods, incense, patchouli.

vrrm vrrm, I've always wanted to tear the rear off a car and spray its insides all over me! I never knew cars could smell like spices and musk with a hint of florals!
And my lord, just look at that wonderful font called Brush Script for the word "Red" (looks like this Red if you have it)! Isn't that beautiful?! I've never seen that font anywhere else but on Chinese menus and Microsoft Word! How innovative to see it on an ad for a sports car!
