Quarry my dear, from where do you come up with this stuff? Is there a scent for 'superficial'? I'm pretty sure it would work well on any of them! Actually, I thought the Fred Segal staff was polite and friendly . Did they get complimentary boob jobs with that bespoke?

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I watched an episode of "Date my EX" (featuring a former "real " housewife of OC), wherein the "star", Jo, is taken to le Labo to have a fragrance blended just for her. I remember she refused to use ambergris because , "Ew....whale vomit."

I nearly screamed b/c I had been dying to smell ambergris.

And as along as I am confessing, did anyone see se Paula Abdul "conceptualizing" her signature scent on "Hey, Paula"? It was like watching a train wreck.

Maybe you savvy web searches can find video and add to this !

I'd love to smell all of these goofy concoctions! I'm sure Paula's will be available at a store near you soon.

Was it this train wreck or another? Paula has derailed so often she's got the NTSB on speed dial.

Good question! Well let's see..most of them are not actually housewives... they proudly admit that most of their body parts are synthetic....they are supposed to be friends who hang out together but obviously they have all simply auditioned for the show and been thrown together (except one or two who seem to have some sort of messed up "friendship" history)...hmmmmmmmmm

My husband fears that people watch these shows and then desire the lifestyle, adopt the values, become more and more shallow....I think that on the contrary, these shows make the average viewer (me) feel better about herself, her life, her income bracket, her relationships....The show demonstrates that money is not everything, and not even much of something if you have no brain, no soul, no real aspirations, passions or desires....The perfume episode is so revealing, because here is this potentially intimate, inspiring, even educational experience of the senses, and it it boils down to nothing but but a squeally shopping trip with the occasional solipsistic reference to scent.

I shared this theory (that rather than inspiring mimicry, the RH valaidates the viewers' lifestyle and self image) with a shrink friend who is fascinated with these shows. She said I was referring to a "normalizing experience"--an experience that makes us realize how healthy and balanced we are in comparison. A new favorite term!

It's mortifying to think that this is shown around the world to people who have never been to America, and that this is what they will think is representative of American womanhood. What a waste of space and oxygen. With their money and resources, this is what they choose to do with their lives. What about some college courses, volunteer work, anything? No, their highest human aspiration is to be bimbos. The one who didn't know what the toy was seemed like a newcomer. She's being groomed to be like the others. They're like Stepford wives, actually. I'm truly ashamed...and flabbergasted! (Guess I found some words).

p.s. It's not that I'm against being pretty and sexy and all that. But come on! Cultivate some intelligence!

Don't worry, it's a global media phenomenon. We have been inunated with this stuff ever since private televison began in Germany and it's brought the public networks down to the same level, nearly. There's a baffling book show, where a lobotomized bimbo model presents literature (well, actually, she presents her boobs while aimlessly stringing together words). These things make satire superfluous.

    http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=NbpR7OxVmJQ

But I agree that the point of these shows, and the reason for their success, is that they serve multiple audiences who
    1. want to see boobs
    2. can feel more comfortable about their own status as homo sapiens by comparison (!)
    3. are bimbos aiming to become just like that

    Pretty clever, ain't it?

I'm sorry--I'm so obsessed I keep posting on this...but I'm trying to get to the bottom of what bothers me SO much--the embarrassment for my nation, for my gender....no --though, that too.

I think it is the narcissism and provincialism that pushes my disgust button.

The lack of interest in anything outside ones own home, family, gated community, local culture. And being so clueless as to not even realizing how very "local" it all is.

The big adventure is buying jewelry, injecting Botox, buying bigger breasts--again, all about focusing on the tiny, empty, boring world of outer self.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

Fred Segal is sort of like a really upscale indoor swap meet. There's several separate "vendors" inside at both locations, selling lots of clothes, purses, jewelry, etc.

In the West Los Angeles location, Ron Robinson has a fragrance/beauty shop called Apothia. In Santa Monica, Robin Coe-Hutshing, who also happens to be the owner of Memoire Liquide and BURN, has a shop called Studio. Although they both carry many of the same lines, the offerings are different enough to warrant a trip to both locations if you are looking for great fragrance goodies.

Perfect description. "Yes, I'm a warm person" spoken in a flat, robotic tone by an overly made-up, unemotional, plasticized automaton.
