Not yet, but I'll admit it is possible. I'm still a novice at this stage, so I'm open to that possibility at some point along my journey, particularly as I explore more niche fragrances. I've been moved to tears by a film, or a good song, don't see why scents should be any different..

Onions? Often. Fragrances? Rarely. I'm slow to tears, so usually I only cry at art of any kind when I'm already down in the dumps, in which case it's a case of contrast; the beauty I'm experiencing versus the ugliness I'm feeling at the time. It's the same with music. For reference's sake... it was En Passant.

But I guess fragrances are works of art used to evoke a certain mood in a person. But I still think crying over a fragrance wont happen for me, unless it's your lifelong mission to find the perfect one

No. Fragrances, for me, are just too inferior an 'art' to evoke such a reaction (same with paintings etc.).

I might get sentimental over some scents I'm wearing now in a good many of years. But not because of any 'intrinsic beauty' - just because of the 'misty water-colored memories...'.

    What he said!

But seriously, crying and being in touch with your feelings is interesting culturally. A couple of centuries ago, the zeitgeist was such that crying, despair and similar feelings were very common, and practically expected of even the most manly of he-men.

Nowadays, being so easily moved would scream of affectation.

To answer your question very specifically, No, I have not wept purely due to the structural beauty of a scent. But a fragrance or 2, I affiliate very strongly to a certain late family member, and there are times I get misty-eyed when I get whiffs of them and am remembered of him. I see that as the beauty of that scent, if it makes sense....

No, and I don't think I ever will - except perhaps in terms of remebering someone deceased by the scent or the like. Musc and movies can do this for me, but paintings, as well as fragrance, work on a different level.

    Can't say that I did.
Then again, I'm not the romantic type, and not easily moved to tears by any kind of art. So perhaps I'm the wrong one to ask.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

Hm, as someone who cries pretty easily (bawling at Harry Potter anyone?) the only time perfume has made me tear up was when a particular perfume makes me remember a certain someone/a certain time- a memory evoked by the scent itself, if you will.

That said, there are some scents that I want to wear when I am sad that enhance the melancholy which is somehow cathartic. Apres l'Ondee is probably the best for that.

Don't confuse "crying" with being moved by the artistry, care and craft of something. Tears do not necessarily connote sadness; it can also signify exhilaration. I personally haven't been moved to tears by a scent, but I'm not going to knock someone who has.

Hell mothafuggin no I haven't wept at the beauty of a damn scent. I mean come on, that's just too much damn passion right there. You weap at the sight of your newborn baby. You weep at your wedding. You weep at the thought of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. You don't weep at the beauty of a damn scent. That's a little much, I mean really. I will now go through this thread and shake my head relentlessly at ANYONE that claims they have wept over a damn fragrance, UNLESS it brings them back to some emotional/sentimental time/person in their past or present life.

It wasn't tears but smelling Gris Clair for the very first time evoked the full imagery and compexity of emmotions of say watching a very good film or reading a great book. It wasn't exhilaraton by the beauty of the fragrance itself and there are many scents that I consider more beuatiful, but GC is certainly to me the most expressionistic fragrance. Like a story in a bottle.
No hard-ons either . But having read all the ironic remarks I have to admit I envy anyone who experiences fragrances so profoundly that they have hard-ons or tears.

No. Not even close, ever. I do not cry easily. It would take a lot more than a fragrance, I think, unless the scent reminded me of someone gone from my life...but that hasn't happened yet.

I only cry when I have to pay for the perfume - and usually it's after I've bought it and regretted it !
Second, when I've been cheated by some ebay seller and received conterfeit perfume instead - I cry when I smell the crap I paid for !

Well, I'm glad somebody manned up.

My case was Dans Tes Bras. It was in part due to the scent's intrinsic beauty, but mostly because it reminded me of my great aunt - the smell of perfume on her skin when I was a child. Not so much that she had departed, or even the memory of her kindness, but what I learned later about her life during WWII.

I do get teary-eyed over stories, and several times over particular pieces of physics. And Lord knows how many times I cried over beer in my youth.

Serious emotional issues? Yeah. We got that.
