Montale Red Vetyver
It's almost cruel to ask any Bner to name, One! it's simply impossible! (another definition of Holy grail could be that one would purchase these scents again or already have and still rejoicing )
mine would be the following...
Serge Lutens: Ambre Sultan & Cedre
Different Company: Rose Poivree & Bois d'Iris
Profumum: Fumidus, Thundra & Olibanum
Parfumerie Generale: Querelle
Patricia de Nicolai: New York
Creed: Silver Mountain Water
Lorenzo Villoresi: Uomo & Incensi
Aramis: Havana reserva
one other that i foresee in near future is, Tauer's masterpiece, L'Air desert morocain (i recently tried it again, this time, a spray. It's just amazing...)
Montale Red Vetyver
For me all my perfumes are Holy Grail ('s)
Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."
Clarice Lispector ( 1920-1977) - Perfumes da Terra / Earth Perfumes
Hermes d'Orange Verte Concentre
Got me hooked on orangeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (and citrus!)
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Acqua di Parma Colonia
Kiehl's Original Musk Oil
Dior Homme cologne
Dior Homme edt

Choose to believe, choose joy.
Scelga di credere, scelga la gioia.
My Best of the Best:
Neil Morris October
Mitsouko EdP (I own a large sample and it trumps the EdT big time--still haven't gotten the pure perfume )
Frederic Male Noir Epices
POTL Luctor et Emergo (and who knew? I used to HATE this!)
Hermessence Ambre Narguile and Osmanthe Yunnan
Bulgari Green Tea-Extreme
And of course this list will grow and change the longer I ponder the question, but that's a pretty decent collection of fragrances that I would really prefer not to live without.
Check out our art car!
I can name one because nothing else is in the same league IMO. Homage by Amouage is my Holy Grail of my wardrobe.
Chamade (Guerlain) - EDT, EDP, and parfum
Pretty much everything in my signature...
Orris by Tauer
More writing on fragrance by me to be found at http://www.cafleurebon.com/
I'm really fascinated with L'Etre Aime Homme right now.
A new bottle of Sous le Vent, Guerlain
A new bottle of Derby, Guerlain
A vintage bottle of Derby in perfect condition (Habit-Rouge bottle)
Jicky parfum 30ml, Guerlain
Onda, extrait de parfum 15ml, Vero Kern
Tabac Blond Parfum 50ml, Caron
Orris, Andy Tauer
Cuir de Russie and Sycomore, Chanel, in those huge bottles - I love them!!
Mitsouko by Guerlain; La Grande Dame of fragrances on the planet.
Still looking :-(...
but right now, i'm really enjoying MPG Route du Vetiver
I have a few from my bottles, and a few more from my decant collection.
PG Cuir d'Iris
Guerlain Cologne du 68 and Quand Vien La Pluie
Chanel Coromandel and Pour Monsieur (original)
Dior Homme and Dior Diorama (the ultimate fresh floral chypre)
Prada No.3 Cuir Ambre
A few more from my decants:
Guerlain Cuir Beluga, Spirituesse Double Vanille (the ultimate vanilla, IMO)
Auguste Esprit de Cuir (the ultimate leather, IMO)
Profumum Dulcis et Fundo
Chanel Bois des Iles
There's probably a few more....
I think ,right now, if there is a fire in the house and I have to jump into the flames to rescue only one fragrance it will be..... BdP .
.... and while I am trying to scape the flames, smoke and chaos I will try to quickly grab GIT risking my life.
After the fire is over I will look through the ashes for Guerlain Vetiver, Yatagan, Havana, XS and Knize Ten.
The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.
Anything in my 5 star signature
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which can not fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance-that principle is contempt prior to investigation." HERBERT SPENCER
Thank a lot to everyone for contributing! this has to be the best scents basenotes could recommend.
That is really inspiring. i knw jrd4t too digs homage...must be some heaven ..
Orris is one of my favorite notes. now you have me intrigued Mike.
I've been pretty addicted to Parfum d'Habit lately.
By Killian A Taste of Heaven
Creed MI and Himalaya
Bond 9 Silver Factory
...and soon to be added Amouage Gold.
Serge Lutens Borneo 1834
My first love, and still the only scent that evokes a: "Wow, this is ME." when I spritz it on.
Eau Sauvage Fraicheur Cuir
I got it for free in one of my first swaps here. It was with Thrax. All I thought was "Holy crap what's this stuff?" and sought it out and took me FOREVER to find some. I will never part with it
Parfumerie Generale : L'Ombre Fauve and Cadjmere
Profumum : Fiori d'Ambra and Olibanum
Lorenzo Villoresi : Piper Nigrum and Incensi
Serge Lutens : Chergui and Gris Clair
PVC and Leather. A Chain and a feather
the one and only..
Patou Pour Homme
"You smell kinda pretty! Wanna Smell me ?"
- Johnny Bravo
I agree about Orris. It has a very round, human sort of presence--not very helpful if you haven't smelled it--that I haven't encountered in anything else that I can think of. A full bottle went on the sale page here within the last few months and I was really tempted.
I don't really believe in the idea of a single holy grail. I prefer polygamy. So here are my current favorites in my little "harlem"...
Parfumerie Generale: Cuir d'Iris, Aomassai, L'ombre Fauve, Felanilla, L'oiseau de Nuit
Guerlain: Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Parfum d'Empire: Cuir Ottoman, Ambre Russe
Serge Lutens: Gris Clair (yes, just one)
Hermessence: Vetiver Tonka
Almost there, but not quite:
Dior Bois d'Argent
Idole de Lubin
Hermessence Ambre Narguile
May make it on other's list, but not mine:
By Kilian StH
Serge Lutens Serge Noire
at the moment I'm absolutely falling for
Tauers L'air dd Maroccain and Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, I somehow have the feeling I need to check out more Ambre frags
otherwise my grails are the good old favs
It's hard to pick just one, but I will say the one and only fragrance that I immediately fell in love with and bought it right on the spot (which I never do) - Annick Goutal Sables.
Please feel free to check out my Swap Thread - Patou pour Homme, L'Instant de Guerlain PH Extreme, Dior Homme Intense, Pure Malt, Pure Coffee and many more! Click Here For My Swap Thread
Hugo Boss In Motion. The first I've tried from their line, and after sampling a lot of the rest, this is the only one I've really liked. My first and last blind buy, too.
My limited 'drobe: Boss In Motion, Armani Code, Concentre d'Orange Verte, Paul Smith Story.
Santal Noble (vintage), Eau des Iles, Eau d'Hermes, Yerbamate, L'Air du Desert Marocain, Iris Silver Mist, Vetiver Extraordinaire, No. 88 (vintage) and Eau Lente for being simply so impressive fragrances.
Racine, Villoresi's Uomo and Cologne du 68 for combining wearability with substance.
There are many others for sure. Made the list quite fast.
Second Orris by Tauer, it really is amazing. Besides that Hinoki by CdG, Gaiac 10 by Le Labo, Reve en Cuir by Indult, and everything in my wardrobe by Serge Lutens - except for Arabie. I would say something is my "Holy Grail" if I could stand smelling it 24/7 and also brings me into a 'euphoric' mood. Moss Breeches is almost HG and smells fabulous on clothes the day after, but is headache inducing.
Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille.
It's not it my collection yet, but soon. Just the perfect combination of scents.
Frederic Malle - Musc Ravageur, Iris Poudre, L'Eau d' Hiver, Noir Epices
Serge Lutens - Ambre Sultan
Hermessence Vetiver Tonka
Costume National - Scent Intense
I am pretty easy to please. My HG's from my stash are

Vierges et Toreros
Nuit de Noel etrait
Sous le Vent
Warning, Changes weekly!
there are a handful of scents in my collection which TRULY qualify as holy grail material....
1. Helmut Lang Cuiron (still the most beautiful leather scent i've ever tried)
2. Knize Ten (still the most dramatic, theatrical leather scent ever made)
3. Helmut Lang Eau De Parfum (hands down the finest musk scent i've ever tried)
4. Kiton Black (possibly the most underrated fragrance...just perfectly balanced and glorious)
5. Paco Rabanne (70s italian macho glory....unrivalled masculinity, imo)
6. SMN Nostalgia (amazing twists and turns from top to basenotes. smells like a vintage race car? I AM IN!)

I don't really have a holy grail scent, but these are the first 10 I would grab if I was making my get away.
Sel d' Vetiver
Muscs Koublai Khan
Encens et Lavande
Annick Goutal Ambre Fetische
I had a discussion recently about this and they would have to be:
Eaux des Baux
There's probably more, but it's late and I have too many to choose from...
In a world where people smell bad, it is the personal responsibility of every Basenoter to improve the world one SotD at a time...
Chanel - Pour Monsieur , PM Concentree, Egoiste
Hermes - Bel Ami, Equipage (both vintage)
Guerlain - Vetiver, Derby
Helmut Lang - Cuiron, HL edc
Tiffany for Men
Eau Sauvage Fraicheur Cuir
There's a lot more I like in my collection but these are by far my favorites
For the moment,
Razala - Ayala Moriel

Trumper Sandalwood Cologne
Homme de Cafe
Dolce & Gabbana PH
Opium PH EdT
Are you not entertained??? Is this not why you are here??
As I have said before, I do not have holy grails. I believe many use it as an equivalent for favorite, but that is a rather incorrect interpretation.
Anywhoo, my favorites:

Why..so ..serious! http://www.buffyholt.com/blog/wp-con...he-joker-2.jpg
Tom Ford - For Men
Larrikin for Men
I like most of the rest of what I own, but any of these 4 will almost always do for whatever occasion I want. I just wish the Tom Ford lasted longer
Looking for: Andy Tauer - L'air du Desert Morocain & Incense Extreme
Check out my NEW Aussie sale / trade thread here -
I don't have much at the moment (newbie in regards to collecting), but out of what I do have, I'd say

Not serious. I am cool with whatever people want to call their favorite scents (I am seriously thinking about calling them my holy molies). But traditionally, Holy Grail is something really hard to get or even unattainable. It represents a hard quest, a finding that ends all crusades. If you live is USA and you have a decent salary, AdG is not a Holy Grail, no matter how much you like it. Heck you can get it at any drugstore. A 1988 bottle of GIT signed by Creed himself? That is a HG!
