Holy grails of the current moment - which I guess is a really woody one - not to say of my current collection as that'd be a long pointless list trotting out all my warhorses

    Chęne
    Jubilation XXV
    Bois d'Ombrie
and let me give a shout out to good old Palisander which smells as good as ever!
I've been wearing Musc Ravageur quite a bit recently as well...

(Aren't these all just too delicious?)

But have to say Chęne has me quite fixated lately, what a fragrance and part of the magic of it is, I think, that in a way... it smells very human, as if it were the fragrance of an imaginary person who oozes way too much sex appeal.

Yep. My 3 unopened bottles are safely stored in a dry, dark, cool basement. They will be forever my HGs.

Determined to break them out before I meet my Maker, though.

It was released in a limited edition in the early 1990's, classified as a women's scent (questionable) and it's singular. Best described as refined leather (a la cuir de russie) and florals on a base of soft wood. Sad that it isn't avaiable today. It's nice.

I forgot to add my other holy grail: Two bottles of Bois Noir (precursor to Egoiste).

    My Holy Molies:
    - Dior Homme EdT
    - Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955)
    - Kouros

Those are the three that I'll always have in my wardrobe. Everything else is merely a pleasant diversion.

I'd add Patou to the list if only I owned a bottle. Now it's beyond my reach, alas.

    - Dior Homme EDP version (no, not DH Intense)

If I could turn my Prada IdI into something that actually projects itself a little bit more with longer staying power... that'd turn it into a Floriental, then I have a second perfume that I'd only wear on special nights out.

I am a bit different than most of my basenotes brethren. I have a signature scent that I wear most of the time, and have been doing so for a couple of years. Now that doesn't mean that I do not still buy and seek out fragrances, I do. In fact this was the one that inspired my interest in collecting, and sniffing others. I have purchased many since, but none have spoken to me as deeply as Bois du Portugal.

The reason I enjoy it as much as I do, is that it has all of the fragrance attributes that I love. Lavender, incense, amber, and wood. All of my other fragrances have at least one of these notes, but none other combines them like BdP.

JHL, Aramis. There's nothing I have ever worn that could replace it. This is the one fragrance that if my house were on fire, I would send Luca Turin in to retrieve for me!

Hang on, I thought the Holy Grail perfume is supposed to be something that you'd like but doesn't exist (just like the Holy Grail itself)?

Sorry I should've said the Dior Homme EDP is a fictional item which I only hoped would exist some time in the future.

A Holy Grail is that which is virtually unobtainable and that consumes one with longing. Given that I doubt anyone has a "holy grail" in their wardrobe.

By your screen name, DH Intense should absolutely be your holy grail - if you like cocoa, that is

But I agree, for me the Holy Grail is something that I want but not yet have. Currently sniffing my Blenheim Bouquet sample, I think thats my HG citrus scent right about now.
From my current collection I love dearly:
Dior Homme Intense and Mugler B*Men (tie for the gourmand holy grail)
    Bulgari Aqua (aquatic holy grail)
    YSL Kouros (no words needed)
