Default A summer fragrance required for a conservative lady

I am looking to augment my mother's fragrance wardrobe with something for the summer months. Ideally I am looking for something light and sophisticated. She is currently recuperating from a Stroke, and I know that something as simple as a new fragrance would mean a great deal to her. She is a lady in her 70s, and she normally uses, Edwardian Bouquet, White Linen and a number of Chanels. My obsession with male fragrances has left me somewhat lacking in the field of womens perfumery, so any suggestions you can make would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some suggestions for summery floral/fresh fragrances that your mother might enjoy:

    Y by YSL edt
    Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere
    Chance eau Fraiche by Chanel
    Chamade by Guerlain
    Panthere Eau Legere by Cartier
Pure White Linen Breeze by Estee Lauder
    Acqua di Gio by Armani
Eau de Camille by Annick Goutal

You've come to the right place for suggestions and I know you will get plenty of others. Best wishes for your mother's speedy recovery. God bless!

You've mentioned, that she has got a few chanel fragrances already. If there aren't any of the boutique ones, Les Exclusifs, in her collection yet, I would suggest either 31, Rue Cambon for a soft, elegant chypre, that can be worn to any occasion. Despite it's elegance, it has a very comforting feel. Or Bel Respiro, a slightly powdery green scent or Beige, the latest addition, a very light-hearted white flower scent.
They all come in awfully large bottles (is it 150 or 200ml, not sure), that's the only downside. Good luck with your search.

    Cheers
    Safran

I would second the vote for the new Beige de Chanel.
    Possibly Diorissimo

I'd keep things simple and get something that would be a twist on what's familiar to her especially since to don't say if she'll be home or not. Here are mine:

    Chanel Cristalle
    YSL Y
    Chanel Bel Respiro
    Balmain Vent Vert
    O de Lancome
    Norma Kamali Violette
    Bond Scent of Peace

For my mom, if it had lavendar or citrus it was sure to be a winner. We saved her jasmine-y ones for when she came home.

Does your mom know what a good son she raised? Prayers & good wishes to both of you.

Gorgeous suggestion here, and I second many of them, particularly:

    Cristalle
    Diorissimo
    Vent Vert
    O de Lancome
Caleche (they also do a sheer / 'voile' summer-weight version, if I recall).

You are a fab son! I hope your mum enjoys your choice. I'm sure she will!

I also thought of O de Lancome. But Creed Royal Water is almost identical & stronger silage.
Another nice one for spring/summer is Patou 1000 a medium strength classic floral.

I like YSL Rive Gauche and Chanel No.5 EDT in the summer. I think Mitsouko EDT would also work well. No.5 Eau Premiere is a great idea for something more modern which maintains a classic style and it is definitely light enough for summer wear.

What a good son you are. My prayers to you both. Try Caron Fleurs de Rocaille. (Make sure Fleurs is plural.) It's a light, beautiful, and classic floral.

You're a honey for thinking of such a nice idea.
I bought my 76 year old Mum a bottle of Ivoire de Balmain last summer and she liked it a lot. It's very much in the same vein as White Linen.
I also bought her Fleurs (with the S!) de Rocaille and she loved that too.
I recently tried Calandre from Paco Rabanne and it's fantastic - like the old Rive Gauche with it's metallic clang and aldehydes. It has a lot of characteristics in common with White Linen, I think.
O de Lancome is a great, classic eau de cologney citrus and is beautifully fresh and cheerful.
Clarins does two very nice fragrances that I recommend a lot: Eau Dynamisante is energising citrus and Eau Resourcante is gently floral and soothing. Both are lovely and very wearable by all ages.

What about lavender? Does she like it or does it remind her of her Grandmother? Caron just did a lovely lavender - what's it called, ladies? Has anyone tried it and would it suit?

Clarins Par Amour is also nice - a transparent, woody rose. LT gives it ****.

Many thanks to everyone for the recommendations I have received so far. I had a feeling that this forum would be a rich source of material. You have given me many options to ponder, and I think I will buy 2 or 3 from the suggestions you have made. I always knew that Basenoters were nice people, thanks again for your help.
