I love reading this thread..It just makes one feel less guilty coz there is always someone who's bought much more than you have though I always tell myself that 'I AM NOT GOING TO POST IN THIS THREAD'......but ofcourse that promise has little value..

I've been really good and not bought anything for 2 months. But today I found an old full 100ml bottle of Ungario III and I just had to buy it.

Oh dear god it's smooth. It was at the top of my wishlist when I smelled it months ago but I had to put a foot down on my spending.

After my week of comparing orange scents, I went out and bought a bottle of the winner, L'Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz

(yes, I'm fully aware that it's supposed to be pineapple and not orange, but it has a delicious, dry orange peel smell to it.)

Shopping around town, I did check out a couple of other oranges first. Chanel's exclusif Eau de Cologne was a beautiful orange, also, but too similar to the others I'd tested to justify the $200. Frederic Malle's Bigarade Concentree was interesting, in that it's an unabashed citrus that resolutely refuses to be "fresh" at all. The nice folks at Barneys gave me a little sample, but I'm just not sure I want my orange mixed with the distinctive smell of a stinky NY cab driver...

I also got a few more little samples, thanks to Barneys, Bloomingdales, and a cute little alterna-queer at Sephora:

    Frederick Malle Outrageous
Parfums Delrae Eau Illuminee (can't wait to give this a full wearing)
    Diptique L'Eau de L'Eau & L'Eau de Neroli
    Terre d'Hermes
L'Eau per Kenzo (fizzy 7up?? very postmodern...)
Guerlain Vetiver & A.A. Mandarin Basil

A nice Saturday afternoon in the city...

CdG 8 88 (100ml, the SA offered me 10% discount on the larger size and that made it £5 more than a 50ml!) and Kenzo Power shower gel, and was given a smaller size Prada Infusion d'Homme shower gel as well as a bunch of samples, because she remembered that I said I liked it when I bought CdG 2 last year.. I was amazed that she remembered me so well

Congrats! I miss smelling Bois d'Armenie. I was just thinking about the scent yesterday as I was getting dressed. I thought I smelled BdA in the air in my bedroom and realized it was a 'phantom scent'. I have to get a decant of this myself, one of these days. Such an elegant and wonderfully rich scent. Enjoy!

I swapped for a decant of this stuff. I've sampled this atleast 3-4 times and the last time I fell head-over-heels in love with it, so I decided I needed a decant of it immediately. I'm glad to have it in my wardrobe now. It's like the younger brother to Tobacco Vanille, a little more cinnamon prominent (yay!) and slightly milky but not in a gross way. Excited!

Thanks to everyone who helped make my sale thread work for me over the weekend I had a little extra to spend on small goodies:

Ava Luxe Doll Face EdP - I can't believe it took me so long to find Ava Luxe. At $30 a pop and with a headspinning array of choices I foresee many of these in my future. AL has the best quality per dollar ratio going, IMHO.

Guerlain Derby 7.5ml mini (in an original mini-pyramid bottle, which I've wanted for so long)

I went to the Chanel boutique here in San Francisco today. The last time I was there, I had sniffed two of Les Exclusifs, 28 La Pausa and Beige, on paper only. I went back this time to try them on skin and make a choice. It was Beige hands down! The first blast was very sweet and kind of stereotypically floral-feminine, but the dry down is nothing like that on my skin. It seemed infinitely superior to 28 La Pausa, which is nice, but faint and understated to my nose by comparison.

So, I am now the proud owner of Beige!

JaimeB - I'm a little surprised at the Beige selection. I received a half/bottle blind in a trade a while back, and while it's a beautiful floral I'd have thought you'd have gone for 28 La Pausa.... no particular reason, just an assumption.

I thought that I would, too, after smelling them both on paper; but on my skin 28 La Pausa didn't pay off. For one thing, the longevity wasn't very good, and for another, it was very dry on me. I just felt disappointed that it was kind of flat and didn't seem at all vibrant to me on my skin. On me, most fragrances that are nice on paper blossom even more on my skin; they take on a kind of humid radiance and diffuse pretty steadily and distinctly on me, if they are going to have any sillage at all. 28 La Pausa didn't do that, wheres Beige did it in spades. In fact, at first, as I think I mentioned in my original post, it was a bit too overwhelmingly floral; but while that aspect subsided, the rest of the drydown was very well-balanced, taking on a woodier character while keeping the bright citrus and moderating the sweeter florals. So I made the choice I made, and I think I'm happy with it.

Perhaps I'll revisit 28 La Pausa at a later date; after all, I do love iris scents. That may be the reason my choice surprised you, since normally I could have been expected to go for the iris. It may be that I didn't spray on enough to get a good start going, or that the weather or my nose were changeable on that day. Oh well, I ran away, but live to sniff another day...

    Oh yes, I certainly will
I really adore Caravelle Épicée. It is my best purchase, beside Ambre Russe, this year, so far. It is so spicy and extremely rich, without unnecessary/stupid sweetness. There are some really beautiful fragrances which are not so popular on the Basenotes and this is just one of them.

50ml bottle + shower gel for £17!! Was very pleased with that purchase as not only have I been meaning to add it to my collection, it looks like JL are no longer selling it here.

Earlier purchases this month have been:

Jo Malone Combining Set - £42 (Virgin Atlantic duty free) Had been wanting this for a while and there it was in the duty free! I couldnt say no to that!

Balderassini Strictly Private - £31.50 This is fantastic on my skin, absolutely loving the gourmand notes in the drydown!

There is a possibility of one more addition, but dont want toget my hopes up just yet. Lets see what the weekend brings.

JaimeB - I totally understand. I've had Beige for a while and have left it for my wife and for decant trades since it didn't appeal to me at first (I received it in a blind trade), but now I'm going to retry it because I didn't notice the woody characteristics at first. You never know what you'll find in your own collection!

Anyway, I got a great deal on:

Guerlain Vol de Nuit EdT. It's quite different from the extrait, but very nice regardless. Someone is selling 50ml testers on eBay and I watched the stock go from 6 to 5 to 4..... when it hit 2 I pulled the trigger since I don't want to regret not buying one because it's getting harder to find. There's still one left if anyone's interested.

Ha ha no I didnt buy blind. Gave it a test and had a walk about. Liked it so bought some.

Had it on today and I'm not sure if it's a scent for work but definitely liking it.
