I think Chanel No 19 is a classic example of that.

Vintage Cabochard, or Bandit would be perfect examples. Closest readily available would be Azurée from Estee Lauder.

Miss Dior, for me. Nothing "Miss" about it. It's vernal green over the wise hide of a society battleaxe.

Seconding Miss Dior and No19 (EdP has more of a 'leather' feel than the EdT)

I love this one for a man. I think the bottle is more "masculine" than feminine, too.

There are so many great scents to choose from:

    Patou: 1000
    Amouage: Jubilation XXV
    Caron: Nuit de Noel
    Caron: En Avion
Piguet: Bandit (2005 not the original)
Editions de Parfums (Malle) : Le Parfum de Therèse
    Lancôme: Cuir de Lancôme
    Guerlain: Cuir Beluga
    Miller Harris: Cuir d'Oranger

I could go on and on...

I agree with most mentioned already--No. 19 I have not found it to be so leathery in the EDT, but it is more present in the parfum. I haven't tried the EDP.

For me, they are Miss Balmain, Trussardi, and Diorling. I love No. 19, but don't really get leather from it, nor do I consider it a chypre! (Green Floral, IMO)

I don't get leather in Miss Dior. I do get the sage & oakmoss, though.

I love the delicate glove leather in Jolie Madame by Balmain.

Psychotrope by Parfumerie Generale (though I'm not sure this qualifies as "chypre") is a gorgeous, refined and smooth leather. One of the nicest I've ever tried.

Only the EDP and parfum of No. 19. Not the EDT. It has no leather. (If anyone thinks so, go smell the EDP.)

My nominations would be Balmain Jolie Madam, which is a delicate violet and gardenia with oakmoss and a soft leather like suade--very sexy--and Chanel Cuir de Russie which is less a gorgous floral and leather creation.

I concur with Purplebird--My Chanel 19 is a vintage EDP, and it is leather. And chypre, too, I think.
    I haven't tried the EDT.

I have No. 19 in EDT and parfum, so I'm not familiar with the EDP. The EDT, which is what I wear most often, isn't a chypre or leather at all. The parfum knocks me over with the heady jasmin - its the most beautiful vintage floral you ever smelled! It might have a hint of leather, but not to the extent of some of the others mentioned.

Wow. I need to try the EDT! I do not get heady jasmine at all in the EDP. The vintage EDP is hardly floral at all. Then again, it could me my nose, but I have jasmine all over the back yard and know the scent pretty well.

Actually, it's the parfum strength that has the gorgeous jasmine...but the EDT is very nice too.

Interesting all our impressions of No.19. For me, the parfum is very green--lots of bitter galbanum, rooty iris and then later a beautiful orris, mossy rose (Rose de Mai, if i recall correctly). The deeper drydown is powdery oakmoss, vetiver and leather. In the EDT, I don't get the leather at all, but I do get the galbanum, faint rose, orris, oakmoss and a little vetiver.
