    Default SotW February 7th - 13th, 2009

Here we go thundering down the stretch with two weeks left to go in the 52-week experiment and we make the turn for home on Week 50. First the raw numbers, we had a record number of posts this week at 1,355 marking two weeks in a row over 1,300. We had a record number of scents posted this week of 759 breaking last week’s record of 756. Of these scents, 52 were posted for the first time in Week 50. There were 501 scents worn only one time for an individuality index of 37.0%. This is only the second time we’ve been above 500 single wears. It appears we are going to accelerate to the finish with record numbers each of the last few weeks. Fifteen scents are in the top 10 and all but one have been here before which probably makes it a good read on some of the popular scents in Basenotes Nation.
The big 5 Houses had big weeks too. Guerlain leads with 134 wears spread out over 37 scents. Vetiver is the #1 scent for the week and it is joined by five more Guerlains; Habit Rouge at #3, Mitsouko at #4, L’Instant pour Homme at #7, Jicky and L’Heure Bleue at #10. Chanel is back in second this week with 62 wears over 22 scents led by Egoiste at #10. Serge Lutens is in third with 53 wears over 28 scents. Three scents tied for the House lead with five wears at #29 and they are Chergui, Chypre Rouge, and Muscs Koublai Khan. Creed was fourth with 45 wears over 17 scents. Bois du Portugal keeps its recent streak going as it finishes at #4 for the week. In fifth is Hermes with 31 wears over 13 scents. Terre D’Hermes also continuing an impressive recent run leads the House at #4, too. The big 5 totals for Week 50 are 375 (24.0%) wears over 117 (15.4%) scents.
The second tier of Houses also had some pretty good weeks too as all of them were up and they all placed scents in or near the top 10. Caron put Yatagan in at #7, Christian Dior placed Dior Homme at #2, and Yves St. Laurent had two scents in Kouros and Rive Gauche pour Homme just miss the top 10 by one wear. The house of the week had to be Parfumerie Generale as a synchronized wear day in celebration of Pierre Guillaume’s birthday on Thursday sprang up on the ladies’ board and once again they showed when they want to flex their stats muscles there is no greater force as the lone newcomer in the top 10 is Parfumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve. Two other Parfumerie Generale scents just missed by one wear; Aomassai and L’Oiseau de Nuit. All of this together led to Parfumerie Generale posting its highest week ever and 150% greater than its average. The Houses with down weeks were, Aramis, Gucci, Prada, Comme des Garcons, Annick Goutal, and Calvin Klein. Prada had a down week because the two Infusions, D’Iris and D’Homme, usually are strong performers but both had very low weeks this week and that dragged the House as a whole down.
The remaining three scents are two stand-alone wonders and the leader of one of the smaller Houses. At #9 Knize Ten returns to the top 10 after four weeks away. At #10 Montana Parfum D’homme (red box) also continues its run. Bvlgari Black also at #10 finishes this week’s top 10 as it spends its third week in a row in the top 10.
    Top 10 for February 7th – 13th, 2009

    10.) Parfumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve 8 wears (0.6%)

Six scents just missed this week the two Parfumerie Generale and Yves St’ Laurent scents mentioned above plus Burberry London for Men and Sean John Unforgivable. Unforgivable had its highest week ever and came one wear short of making its debut on the top10. Again not an impressive week for new scents as Versace pour Homme led the way with five wears at #29.
That’s it for Week 50 Basenotes Nation. We’re heading towards the finish line in two weeks.
For the next two weeks, you keep wearing ‘em and I’ll keep counting ‘em.
    Have a well-fragranced week.

But.. but.. this was an experiment that's almost run its course? Nooooo! It's become such an enjoyable fixture for me ever since I started reading and participating in the forums!
Will love to see the full year stats, though.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.
