Default Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de l'Homme

The new YSL fragrance is already for sale in town (El Corte Ingles).
The bottle is the same as L Homme but with a darker colour, like smoked crystal.
It is very different from the original one. This one is .. a light or fresh oriental .
I get some orange or bergamote in there ,wood and a green note that could be vetiver. I think the sensation of being fresh comes from some notes that I also smell in Aqua (Bvlgari).
I find this flanker better than the original.

I thought I heard that this was due for a March release in the US. Is that the case? Anyone have US release date info?

I hope it's better than the original, I think it's one of the most boring releases of the last couple of years.

Does this mean you won't be patient enough to wait for an Eau de Parfum ...sorry, could not resist.

The bottle looks cool ( the color ).

So are you acknowledging that this is a flanker ?

    Definately C-c-c-coool.
Probably nothing we haven't seen from YSL in terms of Orientals (Opium, Homme, etc).

Launches in March at Bloomingdale's, who has an exclusive for 2 months. Then, it will be everywhere in May. (Source: WWD)

I have to go back today and get a sample but from the paper test , after 14 hours, it reminds me a little to The Dreamer.

    Anyone heard of this fragrance?

I suggest this is a sticker,
the basenotes seems interresting, in a non cloying, manly way.
I mean, the dream would be some moss instead of the coumarin,
    but i can be wrong.

Anyone else that has tested it?

I have to say, that with the exception of Opium, YSL fragrances for men by and large do nothing for me. There is no house signature as such and I just get the feeling they struggle for identity.

    hmmm
Maybe they have experimented too much and all their fragrances do not share a common DNA, like Guerlain.
But they have scored some major hits.
    Kouros
    Rive Gauche
    M7
    Jazz
    opium (which you like)

I do not like L homme at all... dull one

Many people, such as myself, like that the YSL men's releases do not share too much in common with each other. I like variety.

I am not expecting a lot from La Nuit de L'Homme - for pete's sake it a black version of L'Homme it is stooping to the the same level as:

    1881 Black
    Polo Black
    Polo Double Black
    Dali Black Sun
    Canali Black, Black Diamond

Woop, I can't wait. I asked around places, and they said it will most likely be released right before Father's Day, so May sounds right.

L'Homme is still me and my girlfriend's favourite, that we can agree upon.

I read somewhere a March 2 release for Bloomingdale's, but my local one didn't have it yet. I went in and talked to their YSL manager the other day though who said they had a tester of it in the day before for the employees, and that it smelled fantastic in her opinion, but that the company took the tester with them. She said she'll call me as soon as it comes into the store though, I'll make a thread if I get around to sniffing it before the rest of you.

Very excited about this one. Thanks for the info, Basteri. I like the original but not enough to buy a bottle. I hope this one is bottle worthy.

    Is "Nuit" pronounced "nwee"?

I didnt expect this and I can see why some BNers find this boring, but I kinda liked it too. The topnotes are very close to the original LHomme

  33. #33

    I am sampling this today.

To my nose it has the same appeal as L'Homme, but the opening is less sharp, and slightly more muted. There is a good shot of cedar that I can detect as well as a puff of coumarin.
Where L'Homme is vibrant and clear, La Nuit de L'Homme is slightly more husky (tonka bean, perhaps).
Overall the longevity and sillage are kind of on par with the original release. A tidy scent, but not one to rush out and buy if you already own L'Homme. Unless you're a YSL collector, I don't think they differ enough to rationalise owning both.

I got a sample of the original aswell. But I'm so in love with this one, damn. It's indeed a perfect scent when going out or close contact with people. It reminds me soo much of vacation and holiday.

I can see the L'Homme range appealing to some. It has however been my only disappointment with the house of YSL. Nothing earth-shaking about it.

    Bump.

Snifferdog - this is available in Oz now. A couple of weeks ago I was being told "months" - but I've just sprayed some on today in Myers.

I'm reserving judgement, save for two observations:

Much more interesting (read: better) than the original; and, to my nose, slightly liquorice.

    Allo Dr Rudi!

Yes, I found it in a chemist in Collins St, Melbourne. Nice, but not really outstanding, sorry to say. The melon accord does not sit nicely with the oriental elements in it.

    Doesn't work for me, unfortunately.

Me too. It works very well on me. At least myself and the ladies around here think so.

I haven't smelled La Nuit but I do expect it to be good. I've traditionally enjoyed YSL's offerings.

After 4 hours I feel this as YSL l'homme, but stronger.

Not necessarily better than the original, but it does have a certain "darker", edgier note which, paradoxically or not, makes it also more suitable for formal wear rather than the initial YSL L'Homme
