Default Scents from the 70's and 80's that one shouldnt miss (scents to try before you d*e)

would Aigner #1 be one such classic? or Bozzini?

This thread is to help someone like me who gets lost in those websites loaded with 100's of fragrances, most of them from the 70's and 80's..some from 90's too... the notes often tempt, but then there is no review on basenotes....no review on basenotes? thats a straight "no blind buy" for me right there.

could the experts here guide relatively newcomers like us into this world of reasonably priced classics, or lets say, one hit wonders from the past...?

p.s. price is no criteria. scent is.

I've never tried Aigner, but here are some that I can think of:

    Paco Rabanne
    Polo
    Aramis
    Yatagan
    Third Man
    Derby
    Kouros

    Just to name a few.

Naaaa, I say skip Aigner #1 and, er, "Bozzini"? Not important enough in the history of or as reflection of the period.

I'm sure there are fans of them out there, but they really don't reflect much. I regret to admit that this is the first time I can recall my eyes passing over the name "Bozzini."

    Howdy, jenson!
Here's some of my favorites from that era. WIth the exception of Yatagan (well-known), I've tried to pick more obsure but really excellent ones. Armani may not be obscure but it doesn't get a lot of mention. No surprise, my list profiles green scents and woody scents.

    1975 L'eau Trois, Diptyque
    1976 Yatagan
1978 Barbier des Iles, Comptoir sud Pacifique
    1980 Worth pour Homme
1981 Woods of Windsor for Gentleman
    1982 Roger & Gallet L'Homme
    1983 Grafton, Truefitt&Hill
    1984 Armani Eau Pour Homme
    1987 Basile Uomo

Some of the above suggestions are compelling. I'll add endorsement to:

    Paco Rabanne
    Azzaro
    YSL PH
    Cacharel Pour L`Homme

(** If Caron's 3rd Man qualifies for the 70s than it is also a very important one)

Givenchy Gentleman gets some attention from time to time but it's certainly a wonderful thing, even in the reformulation. I'd also add Quorum, one of the surviving citrusy leathers of the period--added a flourish of moss and richer florals to the 60's Aramis thing.

Caron's 3rd Man doesn't qualify for the '70s, but it definitely qualifies for the '80s and it absolutely belongs on this thread.

I'm also surprised nobody has mentioned Givenchy III, which I've yet to sample but which always gets great marks on BN.
