Default L'Anarchiste, the wet ashtray accord.

I just rebought L'Anarchiste and luckily got the intact vintage juice.
I forgot how complex it is! Oranges and camphor over what I can best describe as the smell of snubbed out, wet cigarette butts.
I find it glorious. It's a pity Caron decided to reformulate this edgey masterpiece.

When was it reformulated? My bottle has the following ref. number: 025B05 (I assume 2005?)
    thanks

Besides its fantastic smell, the thing I love so much about L'Anarchiste is the wide range of ways people try to describe it: here we have "wet ashtray accord." That's fantastic! In the past we've had blood, metal, iron, rubbed orange rind (I think I offered that one), and I recall a similarity to Hermès Equipage suggested too. (No they certainly aren't duplicates--absolutely not--but the poster was comparing carnation elements and clove derivatives, so there's a floral part to the thinking as well. Maybe a spice one too.

Blood, ashtray, metal, orange rind, camphor, floral--holy cow, the thoughts this one kicks around.

An inkblot for the snozz huh!

Peleeze don't tell me they changed it. Tell me it ain't so. I picked up my second bottle a couple years ago and it is the same juice, I'm sure.

    Oh yes - I agree. I wanted to like L'Anarchiste, but I couldn't.

It's weird because I remember in my "L'Anarchiste: Initial Impressions" thread I got cedar, camphor, vetiver, cinnamon, clove.. but failed to understand the ruckus about blood and metal. Now I clearly smell blood and metal, along with the cedar, cedarleaf, musks, cinnamon, clove and vetiver.

This is such a fantastic scent. I have to force myself to wear anything else come autumn, as this is, as I've said before, "the smell of autumn bottled" imo. But it's not relegated only to that short and colorful season; it blossoms magically in summer where the heat emphasizes the lighter and more vibrant elements of the scent while winter brings out the heavier spices and vetiver more clearly.

A masterpiece. I'm running low on my bottle. Anyone got a bottle to sell? Otherwise I'll risk picking up a (potentially) reformulated bottle. Something tells me though that this scent is not going to be and was not reformulated, and Ms. Sanchez was either anosmic to some elements or just remembered it differently than it is (for being as spicy as it is, it is remarkably "airy").

Mine has the exact same number. Coincidence or perhaps the number does not indicate the manufacturing date?

I tried a bottle at Sephora Paris in October and it smelled different than the bottle I own, which I assume is much older because I bought it online from a discounter. The one at Sephora smelled like Sanchez described: watery and characterless. I will be in Paris next week and will bring mine to compare it to the fresh bottles there amd give a full report.

I've got a sample coming from TPC and I fear I'm going to like it. Would anyone know of a good online source - preferably of the vintage stuff (???).

Edit: I just noticed that Beauty Encounter has it significantly discounted. Could that be indicative of it being of vintage stock?

You shouldn't fear L'Anararchiste - it felt a little weirder a few years ago, but we have all adjusted to so many new olfactory palettes since then. Thanks to Terre d'Hermes for expanding our cedar horizons. And everyone seems to be using mint these days, so camphor feels pretty tame, too.
