    Default Coffee frangrance

I'm looking for a frangrance that smells like fresh coffee. I don't want a sickly sweet coffee with chocolate (ala Mugler's Pure Coffee). I want something that closely resembles the smell of coffee beans/grinds or just the smell of coffee brewing. A one-noter is okay. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Ava Luxe - Cafe Noir - An incredibly strong and resolute coffee accord. Thats about it. Still, you've got to smell it before you can know if you'll like it.

CdG - Wood Coffee - About the best I've found. I've been on the hunt for a perfect coffee scent since I got into fragrances. This is probably my favorite. But I don't know... I still have yet to commit.
    Lately I've been wearing:
Windsor, Bois de Santal, Original Santal, Elixir, Douro, Endymion, Reflection, Arcus, Marwah

Oddly enough scentronic, I barely got any coffee notes from Wood Coffee and I sold my bottle after going through an ordeal to find it and buy blind. There's a coffee-ish base, but I found it more 'wood' then 'coffee'.

Anyway, I second the Ava Luxe Cafe Noir recommendation - it's the best coffee fragrance if you want not-sweet coffee, and it's only $30 for the EdP.

Another one I just found is Memoire Liquide No.212 Cafe Royale. It comes in parfum and EdP, and it's basically an espresso fragrance with just the tiniest touch of vanilla. You can get samples from TPC or order a bottle from Henri Bendel (15ml parfum is $48, 60ml EdP is $60). I've sampled both concentrations and they are both excellent.

A little bit sweeter is Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Mokha. It's not as sweet as Pure Coffee but not bitter like the above two. It's like a vanilla latte.

It might not be enough pure coffee smell to meet your needs, but Lancôme's Miracle Homme has a very nice and etherial light-to-medium roast smoke smell to it. Nothing heavy, and as I said, it has other things in it, but when you focus on the coffee steam smell in it, it reminds me of bright early mornings driving the road.

I wonder if Bond 9 New Harleem is too sweet for you? Anyway, it has a strong coffee-note. Mark Buxton also has a scent with coffee. I haven't tested it yet, but I'm getting a sample any day now. Here's some info about it:

    NAMELESS eau de parfum
    by MARK BUXTON

Sitting on a terrace at the lake of Come. Watching the boats sail in and out of the harbour, especially "Riva's"; wood and water.

Top notes: mandarin, cardamom, orange flower, lavender
Heart notes: cinnamon, coffee, clove, jasmin
Base notes: amber, ciste, wood, guaiac, patchouli, cedarwood, benzoin

My bad on the $30 suggestion... since that's the price of most Ava Luxe fragrances I incorrectly assumed that was the price of Cafe Noir. Her prices vary depending on the cost of materials used. I've bought EdP as low as $26 from her site, but I guess CN is one of the pricier ones. I'd be willing to be the extrait is worth the extra few bucks. $45 still isn't that bad. I've seen Vanille Mokha on eBay for $22 BIN. Again, try ordering samples of the Memoire Liquide... I just ordered a 5ml decant of the EdP because I like the parfum sample so much.

Ava Luxe Cafe Noir is simply the best true coffee fragrance I've found. Costs $45 for the EDP, and in my opinion worth every penny. Bond No. 9's New Haarlem is also great but has a slightly sweet (though not sticky) edge to it that may not float your boat. Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!

RHM's suggestion of Neil Morris' Cafe is also great... I love it, but find it much more complex than straight-up "coffee" -- I even got a wet cement note in it! Definitely worth trying, Dynasty.

Café Noir? You betcha. I concur with gusto.
Don't forget Rochas Man, either -- there's just enough sweetness there to top things off.

Either you went overboard while spraying, or you haven't savoured the drydown. Have you tried it personally?

Not that it matters now, as it's almost impossible to find a bottle. Grrr I want to stock up!
