    Default Private Tabarome Vaulted

It seems as if Creed has sent Vintage Tabarome to the vaults. I am unable to locate a flacon in either London or the United States. I have been told it has been discontinued indefinitely - I wonder why. Does anyone know of a source in this world? Perhaps a member from Paris?

No, but I sure am glad I got my bottle when I could.
Try the Creed store in Paris:

Thanks. While I continue my rare books-like hunt for a bottle... are the alternatives in lieu of Private Tabarome? or are such words heresy?

There are excellent tobacco scents out there, but Vintage Tab is certainly unique.
    I particularly like:
    Domenico Caraceni EdT (rose tobacco)
C&S Cuba (minty, dirt, spice & tobacco)
Alt Innsbruck EdC (natural tobacco & menthol)
Gianni Campagna Vento Canale (sweet cherry pipe tobacco)

This thread may be helpful: Five Creed Private Collection Fragrances Will Become Paris Exclusives.

The closest fragrance to VT that I have found is Maxim's pour Homme. It is discontinued but still easily available online at an affordable price.

I have not tried Gianni Campagna Vento Canale but I can second the other three. They are all favorites of mine.

Not a duplicate but Molinard's Habanita makes me think of vintage Tabarome. For lavender and tobacco qualities I think they are like each other.

There were some bottles of VT in the Saks Fifth Avenue system a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if they are still there. I heard from a friend that there were only 4 bottles of Angelique Encens in the system at that time - I'm presuming those are now gone. Good luck!

There was a list of additional scents that will lose the small-bottle option. These are not contemplated for the chopping block, but then again, nobody expected the 5 in question to disappear so suddenly...

On the good news front, this clears the way for some new, contemporary Creeds this year or next.

The overall issue is presumably the sourcing of components. My guess is that Creed does not wish to suffer the ruined reputation that comes with bad reformulations. I can hardly blame them.

I'm not so sure about that. Santal Impériale was reformulated from a heavily natural sandalwood to a synthetic shadow of itself, and I don't see any critical components in Vintage Tabarome. I would imagine it suffices that these fragrances have minimal turnover due to their very small (and select ) fanbase, making production entirely uneconomical, for them to be discontinued - or to offer "on demand" batches for those willing to pay a premium.

I suppose that within the next ten years, as Erwin takes over, Creed will further rejuvenate its line and image (and will no longer hold any interest for this old fogey).

True - simple economics is all that's needed. Perhaps they brought them out with the intent that if it wasn't profitable - back they went. Or the whole thing was a way to stir up more interest in the premium on-demand process, and that's now been done.

Very nice list of quality frags. I really enjoy "Cuba" Love the minty juxtaposition with the dirty tobacco spice thing.

May I add one that I recently discovered and bought a bottle. Love at first whiff on this one.

    Bell’Antonio
    Eau de Parfum
    by Hilde Soliani

    The Scoop
There are few notes more appealing and downright sexy than tobacco and coffee. Mix them together and you are guaranteed a gloriously attractive perfume. Imagine the young Marcello Mastroianni enveloped in a light cloud of pipe smoke, sipping on a double espresso. In fact, imagine the most attractive man you can think of, and that would be Bell’Antonio. A warm, husky aroma of tobacco leads the scent from start to finish, with the dark roasted coffee note providing an additional depth and character. Stunning, charismatic, more than a little dangerous and unexpectedly cozy and cuddly— that is Soliani’s Beautiful Antonio. Absolutely addictive and, despite the traditional masculinity of the notes, entirely wearable and no less beautiful on a woman!

Thanks for the alternative options mates. Saks on 5th Avenue managed to source 3 flacons for me. Hopefully that will last for a while until Creed unchains the poor ol'fellow from the dungeon.

I phoned my regular source in The Netherlands today and they assured me that VT wouldn't be discontinued. She did say however that before they could order by the bottle and that they now have to order a minimum of 6 bottles (I guess that's one box full of bottles), so that's not a good sign.

Having just obtained a healthy decant of Angelique Encens from a generous BNer, I'd just like to throw out the recommendation for anyone who hasn't tried it to do so before the remaining stock entirely disappears. It's by far my favorite Creed and among the most contemporary of the many that I've sampled. Good stuff.

Cuba seems to react particularly well in the heat. I didn't really love it during the winter months, but took some with me when I visited Brazil for a holiday. It has quite a dry quality that seems to react well in the hot conditions, and the tobacco accord was beautifully spiced. I am looking forward to the summer months in London so that I can experience this again.

Sadly the decision to discontinue some of these great fragrances, including my beloved Dunhill for Men are made by Finance Directors and not by the creative forces within these companies. In the case of Tabarome, the public is given the abortion that is Millesime Tabarome as a sop to the purists. Comparing Millesime with Vintage is like comparing Winnie the Pooh with Newton's Principia. Sadly other classic fragrances will follow suit.

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your inquiry and interest in CREED Vintage Tabarome.

We are happy to report that we have confirmed that there are still some flacons of Vintage Tabarome available in the U.S.

We spoke to the CREED counter at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC, the CREED counter specialist, has a few flacons of Vintage Tabarome on hand and will be more than happy to help you with this item. They should be in contact with you shortly.

Once the current U.S. supply of Vintage Tabarome has been purchased by the public, it will be available only by special request sent to Mr. Olivier CREED at CREED, 38, Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie, 75008, Paris.

CREED is the largest luxury fragrance line, with more than four dozen fragrances available to the public. The hiatus of Vintage Tabarome will help make room for new CREED items, particularly a new room spray, Mimosa Soleil, just arriving in stores, a new women's fragrance for 2009, the debut of the first in what will be a unique collection-within-the-collection and a new fragrance to celebrate CREED's 250th anniversary in 2010.

We hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if we may be of any assistance to you in the future.

If in the future you would like to receive text alerts from CREED with new product news and other timely information, please sign up by texting CREED to 25827. Standard text messaging rates apply.

    Again, thank you.

I must respectfully disagree with both Cuba and DC 1913 as alternatives to VT. I find them to all be completely different. In my opinion, DC1913 is overhyped and rubbish in general, I could not look past a certain synthetic feeling that it had. That being said, again, it was FAR away from VT, even I believe in what it attempts to do. Cuba on the other hand is magnifiscent though again, far different from VT. Dirtier, less...focused? (not in a bad way.) VT is a very distinct, distinguished, direct smell, which Cuba while again, fantastic is not.

I can't speak to the others.

I too like VT, and have a small decant - couldn't see springing for the flacon. Anyone see any similarity between VT and Montale Aromatic Lime? I know it sounds funny - but I sampled the Montale recently and VT was what came to mind.

It must. Vintage Tabarome is only available in the big flacons. The 2.5's are testers.
    Lately I've been wearing:
Windsor, Bois de Santal, Original Santal, Elixir, Douro, Endymion, Reflection, Arcus, Marwah

I hope I was sufficiently clear about VT's distinctiveness and these not being replacements for VT, simply other excellent tobacco fragrances. You may dislike Caraceni (I suppose what you describe as synthetic may be the sensation resulting from the citrus-floral-tobacco interaction - some people have described it as burnt plastic), but rest assured the materials Forester employed for all of the Campagna company perfumes I've tried (which includes Caraceni) are top notch. I wouldn't be surprised if the DC formulation was more expensive than that of most Profumum and By Kilian fragrances.

I wore the VT for the first full day today from a sample I had. It seemed to last only around 5 hours with 4 sprays. (neck, chest, forearm, forearm). I can now only trace a very faint scent. I don't believe the longevity of this fragrance has been discussed, what are your experiences? Also, what kind of body wash and deodorant would you pair it with? Currently use unscented.

I find it quite persistent - 8-10 hours easily and still noticeable next morning, though it does quiet down after about 4-6 hours. I would use unscented body products, since VT is pretty complex and really doesn't require any layering or, IMO, amplification.

I found VT to be one of the most potent fragrances I have encountered. It appears to have great consistency, and easily lasts all day. Given its potency, I have never worn anything other than fragrance free deodorant with it, usually Mitchum.

VT lasts about 8 plus hours on me. After the 5th hour or so, the scent doesn't project very much, but it lends to the wearer a powdery aura that hangs quite close to the skin.

There's still 250mls at the Holt Renfrew at Vancouver. If it were even feasible in my financial situation, I would jump on it. However, I really can't. Plus, 250ml would last me for like... the rest of my life.

Yes, exactly the same. Not much projection after the 5th hour. Only someone very close can smell it on me. But the powdery aura is wonderful.
