    Default Which woody oriental?

Hi guys, I have done some woody orientals sample for a while and so far I encounter 2 completely different kinds of woody oriental. One I love and one I really hate
I really love those like CK's Obsession, Contradiction. It seems to me that they're more spicy, not sweet, I don't know how to describe it but if you compare them to the "all-so-sicken-sweet" like Black XS, UltraViolet, A*men you know what I'm talking about.
I think the woody orientals is more the "all-so-sicken-sweet" right? Cuz everytime I sniff a scent classified woody oriental it turn out to be that way. So far I only encounter those 2 from CK that's difference. Do you guys know any more fragrances that smell like those 2?
I'm just learning here so correct me if I'm wrong .

Try Opium Pour Homme by YSL - it is of the 'spicy' variety you're describing. There's an Eau de Toilette, and Eau de Parfum (stronger and more expensive - my favorite) and some Summer versions also. All are highly recommended.

An excellent spicy, woody oriental that isn't very sweet is Carven Homme.

This along with "incense" is one of my favorite genres. Try out:

    Bois du Portugal
    Parfums de Nicolai New York
    Tiffany for men
    Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree

One of the greatest woody oriental of all times (no sweetness at all) is

    Guerlain Vol de Nuit

It's subtle and not a sillage-monster by any means, but definitely worth trying.

Armani Mania, kind of run of the mill, but I think it's what you might be looking for!

Second BdP, if you want to get more of the spicy.

Guerlain L'Instant PH Eau Extreme (not the EDT version) [sweet but in a refined way]
    Serge Lutens Chene [honeyed cedar]

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

Gucci Pour Homme is the woodiest woody wood oriental in my wardrobe.

Bois du Portugal maybe what you are looking for, though.

Though you may still want to try:
    chanel egoiste
    pdn new york
    escada magnetism
    helmut lang edc
    diptyque tam dao
Spring/Summer Wardrobe: vetiver extraordinaire, rose 31, terre d'hermes!

My favorites in this genre, in order of strength of recommendation...

Tam Dao - a dry, minimalist blend of cypress, sandalwood and cedar.

Aoud Cuir D'Arabie - austere, smoky and slightly medicinal oud and leather fragrance.

CdG Parfum - a bold, spicy blend of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, sandalwood and rose.

I have only tried Burberry London and Brit so far and to me they belong to the "oh-so-sicken-sweet" category
