    Default SotY: #8 Guerlain Jicky

    SotY #8 Guerlain Jicky

    Total Wears: 320 (0.6%)
Number of weeks of at least one wear: 49
Low week: 0 wears on three weeks 4,5,& 12
High week: 40 wears twice in week 13
    Average: 6.13 wears/week
Number ones: 1 in week 13
    Top 10’s: 17

Guerlain Jicky is the number eight scent for the year. This is the first of three Guerlains in the top 10. Jicky is also the far and away leader on the women’s board and the #1 scent for the women. In week 13 the women actually exercised their muscle in showing how co-ordinated they could be and Jicky posted 40 wears that week. This was after they had powered a different Guerlain Champs-Elysees to number one with 41 wears, the one-week record, in week 12. The difference between these two scents is that Jicky was regularly worn throughout the year. Even though the men wear Jicky, almost 85% of the wears came from the women. That is why the two of the three zero wear weeks came before the women were regularly tracked. Don’t be fooled by what seems like a low level in the graph as that spike in Week 13 throws the scale off. Jicky had nine weeks of double-digit wears.
When you look at the graph you see that there were only three weeks after week 12 where it had three wears or less. Jicky is clearly one of the women’s staple scents and it was worn by many different posters. Jicky seems to operate as a comfort scent for many of the female members of Basenotes Nation. In the same way that Green Irish Tweed is considered a masculine classic, Jicky operates under the same umbrella but the gender is switched. Jicky may have been created for men but it is embraced by the women of Basenotes.
I’ll be back tomorrow with #7

My doesn't-like-any-perfumes daughter spoke these words last week when I asked her to sniff my Jicky edt bottle: "I like that ... quite a lot actually."

I thought you all were wearing something to commemorate Yves Saint Laurent! I'm totally surprised!

After this, I'll have to apply some Jicky parfum today.

SMM, have you looked at whether the basenotes fragrance of the week has any bearing on the stats?

I don't know how long that has been there, and I suppose most of us skip the front page anyway. But we're such a suggestible lot is my guess.

I have to say that that theory of Basenoters being a suggestive lot was floated early in the experiment. The data does not bear this out. There were weeks where there were threads on a scent that would get upward of 60 replies and you wouldn't see the wear total budge an inch from its average.
My conclusion is the initial hypothesis is not supported by the data.

Drat, I thought that spike was an Yves St. Laurent! I didn't yet own a sample of Jicky to wear and didn't remember that SSW.

I agree that this is very exciting! Thanks SMM!
Eddie: Sweetie, what are you drinking?
Patsy: Oh, this? Chanel No. 5.

SMM, do you have any idea which concentration was most popular?
    EDT, EDP, or parfum?

I have a feeling it is the EDT, if only buy guessing from actual bottle availability in the shops and online.

O ho! I was wrong. I was thinking it might be Champs Elysees. I wasn't really paying attention to Scent of the Week back then, though.

    So THAT was the spikeroo!
Don't think I was actually reading the forums back then, so I missed all that. Fun to know it in retrospect!
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.
